WELCOME

I am delighted to be elected the Chair of the Thomas Jefferson Partnership Fund (TJPF) Board at a time of incredible opportunity for TJ following the completion of the school’s remodeling and expansion and welcoming our new Principal, Dr. Ann Bonitatibus this summer. We are tracking towards a successful close to the Campaign for TJ this December, which will continue to meet the school’s unique laboratory, technology, athletic and academic needs. I am grateful to the leaders of TJPF and to the talented and hard-working staff during these critical years! In our Annual Report you will read many examples of the important work that the TJPF staff and Board have already accomplished during the multi-year campaign. We could not have done all of this without the support of our parents, students, alumni, faculty, corporate partners, and elected officials. It is truly a Partnership!

Together in 2016-17, the TJ Partnership Fund:

· Assisted teachers with funding support for access to professional conferences, workshops, and memberships

· Facilitated unique classroom experiences in our school including the student-led tjSTAR symposium

· Helped fund clubs and extracurricular activities such as the Rocketry Club, HackTJ, Techstravaganza, and the Bioinformatics Society

· Facilitated a Student Ambassador trip for our students to visit and learn from TJ alumni in the San Francisco Bay region

· Funded the purchase of 2 turf fields at TJ for our Student Activities and Athletics

· Provided funds to purchase unique and state of the art equipment to help make sure all students have access to the resources they need for an innovative learning environment

Moving forward, I am pleased to announce that the TJPF will expand our focus to further increase alumni engagement with the school, with students, and with each other, and to leverage TJ’s resources, students, and faculty for K-12 STEM outreach to our community. These new initiatives expand on programs already supported at a moderate level by TJPF including those listed above, but add a more deliberate focus on these areas to increase alumni and community engagement. We invite you to be part of our community by following our Colonials twitter feeds (including the TJPF’s @tjpartnership), signing up for our newsletters, volunteering at an event, and making a donation.

Sincerely,

TJ Partnership Fund 2017—2018

About the SchoolThomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology was founded in 1985 as Virginia’s first Governor’s school tasked with promoting science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) education in Fairfax County and surrounding jurisdictions. Today TJ has almost 1900 students and is respected around the world as one of America's leading science and technology high schools. Known best for the accomplishments of its students, the school has become an international model for its focus on inquiry-driven research and a unique curriculum that includes integrated and interdisciplinary courses as well as numerous challenging post-AP offerings. TJ provides those students who gain admission with an exceptionally rigorous STEM experience along with strong humanities and language programs, varsity sports, and 180 clubs that include several nationally ranked academic teams. The school boasts an impressive history of Olympiad and research competition recognition, and is also home to the founders of numerous non-profit organizations that inspire interest in STEM throughout the region. TJ is a diverse, collaborative community of dedicated educators and motivated, curious learners with an academic intensity rivaled only by its quirky school spirit.

Go Colonials!

The TJ Partnership Fund As the non-profit foundation dedicated to supporting Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology, the Thomas Jefferson Partnership Fund ("TJPF") works closely with the school administration to help further its unique mission. TJPF raises funds from current and past parents, alumni, corporations and foundations, and others who believe in the importance of the school's role as a STEM education leader. Its volunteer Board of Directors and small staff host events that highlight student research, mark school milestones, and celebrate our culture. Since merging with TJ's Alumni Association, TJPF assists with reunion planning, hosts regional alumni networking events, and encourages close ties between alumni and students. TJPF's Campaign for TJ has so far raised over $7 million, enough to fund research instrumentation, school-wide technology, turf for TJ's athletic fields, and more. Following that success, TJPF redoubled its commitment to expanding access to STEM resources to better support the school's own outreach efforts, and that of its students and alumni.

The Partnership Fund made a $400,000 payment to Fairfax County to help install our turf fields.
