Scope of the Project
Promote cultural and other alternative forms of tourism in
both parts of the Mediterranean Sea basin through multimodal
transport systems

regions for thematic tourism purposes, while at the same time promoting
accessibility from one region / country to the other

Joint Analysis/Strategic Planning and Development of a Mediterranean Web-GIS
platform that will bridge cultures and transport systems of the participating regions
HOW?
Specific Objectives (1/2)• Increase / enhance the capacity of
Mediterranean authorities in promoting local and regional identities and alternative forms of tourism
• Develop new trans-Mediterranean tourism products (“routes” on cultural and thematic tourism in the Mediterranean Sea Basin)
• Create networks among project partners and stakeholders focusing on experience, know-how and information exchange

Specific Objectives (2/2)• Coordinate formulation of policies on
promoting thematic tourism through the use of new technologies
• Reduce seasonality and improve the quality of tourists in the participating areas

Expected Results (1/2)• Raised stakeholder awareness through active
involvement in benchmarking, strategic planning, and capacity building

• Increased knowledge of local/regional authorities participating in the project on issues related to thematic tourism development and promotion through customized capacity building seminars

• Wider variety of thematic tourism forms through new tourism products / routes in the participating areas included in their strategic plans

• Joint formulation of Strategic and Operational Plans on the development and promotion of thematic tourism in the participating regions

• Design and implementation of Capacity Building Seminars to the staff of the participating authorities and other stakeholders

• Joint formulation of a “Green Paper on promoting thematic tourism in the Mediterranean Sea Basin”
