Title- Orientation Day for the fresher’s (2018-19)
Day/Date- Second week of August
Preamble-A day program conducted to orient first year students students with existing structure of
CBCS .
Participant’s Profile- First year BSc Maths Hons and B A Prog with Maths Discipline undergraduate
Students.
Description of the Program- The orientation day was organised for the first year students to orient
them with the course structure of Choice Based Credit System (CBCS).
The event took place under the guidance of Ms. Laxmi, Teacher In Charge of the Department and other
teachers of the department where the whole department welcomed the first year students and interac
ted with each other. The faculties, students introduced themselves and our teacher in charge introduc
ed the overall discourse and objective of the discipline. The event was very interactive as the freshers c
larified their many doubts without any hesitation. It helped the department to gel well and it set the p
ace in the right direction. The bond established made the teaching learning process more interesting.
Also, the curiosity among the students to know more could be felt in the atmosphere as everyone part
icipated with zeal during the session.
The orientation programme ended on a happy note, with all the queries of the students being solved a
nd answered to their satisfaction.
Feedback- All the first year students expressed their gratitude to the teachers and students of second
and third year for organizing such an interactive session for them.
Future Perspective- The Mathematics Department, Lakshmibai College keep organizing such interactiv
e sessions time to time to interact with the students and taking their queries.

Title: An open lecture on “Algebra and Number Theory for Cryptography”
Day/Date: Friday, 2nd November 2018
Preamble: A day program conducted on 2nd November 2018 by Department of Mathematics. Also the
invited speaker was the expertise in the area of cryptography being the scientist F, DRDO. He delivered
the lecture start from the fundamentals and basic definitions and descried the applications of it.
Participant’s Profile and Description of Event: Mainly for the Maths Hons. Undergraduates to make
them understand the importance of the abstract Mathematics in Cryptography.
Also the faculty members as well as students from various other colleges took a part in this open
lecture.
Description about the Program: The event was started by giving the formal introduction of Mr Indivar
Gupta followed by offering him token of honour from Principal Dr. Pratyush Vatsala
The main objective of the lecture was to make students aware with the importance of studying
cryptography as a paper which has been introduced in syllabus a couple of years ago.
The speaker Mr Indivar Gupta, DRDO beautifully gave outline of the lecture which begins with the
definitions and motivating students by giving sufficient number of examples where cryptography has
been used.
Also emphasized the importance of algebra and number theory, topics of pure mathematics in the
Applied branch of mathematics like cryptography.
Feedback: All the students along with staff members gave up a positive feedback about the lecture and
looking forward for the same kind of events to be organised within the department.
Future Perspective: The Department aims in providing the similar kind of instructional open lectures
covering the different branch of mathematics to equip students with basics of the subjects .

Title: ‘HELIX’- THE ANNUAL DEPARTMENTAL FEST Day/Date: Friday, 22nd February 2019
Preamble: A day program conducted on 22nd February 2019, constituting of several academic based competitions as well as small events supporting and encouraging the idea of mathematics in day to day activities. The fest was mainly sponsored by ‘DIPS Academy’ and ‘Alpha Plus Institute’.
Participant’s Profile and Description of Events: The students of 1st, 2nd and 3rd year of Lakshmibai College, the faculty members as well as students from various other colleges took a part in the events like Paper Presentation, Poster Making, Mathematical Quiz, The Decoding Competition, Photography Competition, Mathematical T-shirt Painting, Mathematical Meme-Making Competition, Geometrical Dum-Charades and many more.
Description about the Program: On the inaugural function, Dr Sangeeta Sharma Dhaor, Sr. Asst. Professor, Department of Social Work, Dr Bhim Rao Ambedkar College, University of Delhi, was welcomed as the Chief Guest. In her addressal lecture, she enlightened the seated students as well as the staff, on an interesting lecture titled ‘HIV/AIDS: The Hazards and Prevention’. During Paper Presentation, students from our own college, as well as other colleges, took initiative in bringing out the mathematical theories to the next level. The students brought light to several complex topics and presented them with complete ease and simplicity. During Poster Making, the participants showed their colourful side by painting posters on distinct topics which were self-chosen. They spotlighted many social issues that impressed masses. During Mathematical Quiz, the participants sharpened up their brains and skills by solving up difficult as well as complex problems. They brushed up their knowledge and sharpened up their minds by trying to answer numerous problems in the given time limit. The Decoding Competition was somewhat similar to the quiz, format wise. It rather focused on simplifying difficult and hard to understand computer and software codes. In the Photography Competition, the participants clicked the pictures bringing out new perspective and vision in the eyes of the onlookers. The students present as well as faculty members of the department enjoyed themselves to the core by participating in several on the spot games and events.
Feedback: All the students along with staff members gave up a positive feedback about the events, management, as well as the decoration and the whole program. Everyone took an initiative in providing the managing committee with their reviews and wishes.
Future Perspective: The Department aims in providing a promising future and hopes to take ‘HELIX’- the annual departmental fest to the next level in the years forthcoming by bringing out more exciting events as well as hoping to gather more sponsors.

Title: A lecture on “Dynamics”
Day/Date: Thursday, 14th March 2019
Preamble: On the occasion of Pie Day, a lecture on “Dynamics” was organised by Department of
Mathematics
Participant’s Profile and Description of Event: The audience targeted for the same includes 1st, 2nd
and 3rd year students of maths hons to provide them an idea about the dynamics behind the
algebra.
Description about the Program: The event was started by giving the formal introduction of Prof.
Riddhi Shah, Head, School of Physical Sciences, JNU and the chair of IWM (Indian Women and
Mathematics). Senior faculty Ms. Chitra Sharma felicitated Prof. Riddhi Shah by offering her planter.
The objective of the lecture was to introduce the dynamics behind the Algebra where she started
few problems like Illumination problem etc. Beautifully introduced the basic concepts and
definitions of Ergodic Maps and its applications.
She shared the story of Maryam Mirzakhani, Field medallist in the area of Mathematics and motivate
the students to go beyond the books and do remarkable research in the area of their interest. She
also showed some slides on IWM and told the objectives of the institution.
She herself was an inspiration to our students as an Indian women Mathematician.
Feedback: All the students along with staff members were happy and fully satisfied from the facts
shared by Prof. Riddhi Shah .
Future Perspective: The Department, to inculcate the research aptitude in our students and bring
successful stories of Indian Women Mathematician before them, will conduct such kind of lectures in
coming years
