MDE Responsibility

Michigan Department of Education (MDE) is responsible for monitoring all ELL/Immigrant program performance to ensure compliance under the No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB).

Designed and implemented Evaluation/Monitoring process Conducted training on process via a series of webinars Disseminated Self Evaluation Tool to individual LEA’s

and consortiums for completion by March 13, 2009 Designed and developed Evaluation/Monitoring Risk Factor Tool to determine type of review Created standard final report format for documenting individual district reviews

Progress To Date

230 Self Assessment Tools (SATs) have been submitted to MDE, Office of School Improvement (OSI) .

All SATs received have been analyzed based on risk factor criteria and categorized into desk/telephone or on-site reviews.

To date 20 desk/telephone reviews have been conducted and final reports compiled.
