The 2016 NI BIM Conference, hosted by the NI BIM Regional Group, will put the spotlight on BIM in Northern Ireland. This event is aimed at those whose procure, design, build and maintain construction assets, looking at BIM ‘Now and Next’ and sharing with the audience BIM progress, adoption, NI capabilities, skills,
best practice and implementation through case studies and local examples. Eminent keynote speakers from across the UK will share current practices and their visions of our BIM future.
This Conference aims to advance your BIM knowledge and to promote BIM to the industry at the highest level.The day’s events will demonstrate the power of BIM to those considering implementing it within their role or who have already have started on the BIM journey. Consideration of the current BIM climate and its future will be investigated, and
how we employ BIM to maximise our business capabilities and the exports of skills and service from NI. Furthermore, the speakers will provide you with an excellent opportunity to meet BIM professionals from leading organizations.

Speaker Biographies – NI BIM Conference
RICHARD LANE
Richard Lane, Programme Manager for the EU BIM Task Group,
Global Programs Manager at Engage and Director of Creonova
Consulting,
With 27 years’ experience in IT consulting, project management
(ISEB) and training, leading global teams; Richard is a Fellow of the
Learning & Performance Institute and a Professional Member of the
British Computer Society.
As Director of Creonova Consulting, Richard provides consulting,
program & project management, change management and training
services to education, public sector and commercial organisations,
specifically focusing on technology and construction sectors.
He has led the development of the UK BIM Task Group training
strategy & solution and supported the implementation of BIM in a
number of UK government departments including the Ministry of
Defence and Department for Education.
DAVID PHILP
Head of BIM Implementation, Cabinet Office
David is Head of BIM at the UK Governments BIM Task Group and
BIM Director EMEA for AECOM.
David graduated in the early nineties and straight away joined
Balfour Beatty as a Graduate Engineer, he advanced through the
company becoming Director of Technical Services and latterly BIM
Programme Director. David’s enthusiasm lies in highlighting the
potential of new technologies and how we interact with them to
bring added value to our customers and unlock new ways of working
throughout the entire lifecycle. David is passionate about our industry
and perceives BIM as being a catalyst for reform. An early adopter
of practical change and purposeful collaboration, David is currently
seconded to the Cabinet Offices Efficiency and Reform Group where
he is Head of BIM Implementation. He is also chair of the BIM2050
and various BIM4 working groups. He still lives in Scotland and
his hobbies include photography and collecting air miles. He is a
Professor at Glasgow Caledonian University.
STEFAN MORDUE
Stefan is a chartered architect, construction project manager and
NBS Business solutions consultant.
He is co-author of a number of publications including ‘BIM for
Construction Health and Safety’ and ‘BIM for Dummies’ and
author of the NBS BIM Object Standard. Stefan was part of the
team that produced a BIM Toolkit for the UK government as part
of their BIM mandate and has a particular interest in how BIM can
make safer assets. Stefan represents the RIBA on the Architects’
Council of Europe (ACE) BIM Working Group, and was a founding
member of the CIC BIM2050 working group.
NICK TURBERVILLE
Business Development Director, Trade – Construction - Invest NI
Nick’s role with Invest Northern Ireland is to identify potential
opportunities for Northern Irish construction companies in the GB
market. He works with stakeholders and tier 1 construction firms
to identify projects that could be delivered by client companies. He
is actively engaged with both public and private sector clients (e.g.
Transport for London, City of London Corporation, HS2, Heathrow,
Balfour Beatty, Mace, Sir Robert McAlpine & Wates). Prior to
joining Invest NI in 2011, Nick worked with the Supply Chain Team
at London 2012 managing the buyer engagement programme for
the ODA and LOCOG.
MELANIE DAWSON
Over the last 15 years Melanie has gained a wealth of experience,
including working on challenging design projects in architectural
practice, being part of and also managing multidisciplinary design
teams and experiencing the real life challenges that come with
construction projects.
Her combined design and construction experience has formed an
excellent foundation to support her role as BIM Strategy Manager
in GRAHAM Construction. She manages the BIM ideas process
collaboratively to deliver sustainable innovation through BIM.
Melanie is a Leader in BIM integration and drives the progress of
GRAHAM Constructions BIM vision and Objectives. In 2012 She
established the CIC NI BIM Regional Hub and has held the position
of Chair of this group now known as ‘NI BIM Region’ to the present
date. The NI BIM Regions steering Group work to support the
Building Information Modelling objectives set by the UK Government
Cabinet Office. She has been responsible for the mobilisation and
implementation of Level Two BIM across the GRAHAM Construction
business through her active and hands on approach to BIM
people, processes and technology. She enjoys new challenges and
continually improving the way the construction industry works to
deliver the very best outcomes for all involved.
SCOTT GRANT
As CEO of the Soluis Group, Scott holds overall responsibility for
the strategic direction of the business along with the running of the
commercial and operational sides of the business.
He has over 15 years’ experience in the Autodesk Channel delivering
CAD and BIM solutions to a broad range of construction industry
clients. By building on the Group’s track record of producing top
quality visual media there is a real drive to deliver better outcomes
in project engagements by utilising the latest digital platforms to aid
understanding.
MARK KING
EMEA BIM Solutions Manager - Leica Geosystems
Mark joined Leica Geosystems in 2014 as EMEA BIM Solutions
Manager and is focused on Leica’s BIM Field Trip solutions that
link the digital office and construction site through 3D data.
Having previously managed a BIM department within a UK
survey company for 5 years, he developed processes and
procedures for capturing, generating and validating 3D model
information. During this time Mark has delivered numerous
survey to BIM projects, for companies such as Tata Steel, Laing
O’Rourke and Atkins.
Mark is also a technical committee member of the UK BIM Task
Group’s, Survey4BIM sub-group and has presented at numerous
Geospatial and BIM events throughout the world including; BIM
Show Live - London, GeoBIM – Amsterdam, JEA BIM Conference –
Jordan and numerous international Revit User Groups.
JOHN NUGENT
Deputy Director of Estates at Queen’s University Belfast.
John has a degree in Civil Engineering and is a Fellow of the
Institution of Civil Engineers. He has led the delivery of the
University’s Capital Development since 2001.
The presentation will be supported by contributions from David
Gawley (BIM Consultancy Director at Pentagon Solutions), Marc
Tracey (BIM Manager at Ostick and Williams) and Dr Derrick
Black (IT Support Officer at Queen’s University, Belfast).
