For a Good Cause
By: Madison Dianto
Timber Ridge Elementary Kindness Club has a new fund raiser to help the environ-ment and the population of wild Gorillas. This fundraiser is to help stop chemical pol-lution in the environment. All you have to do is give one old or unusable cell-phone to Mrs. Katie. Once we as a school collect 100 cell-phones kindness club then gives them to Zoo Atlanta to dispose of them properly. Then in return we are given an infant Goril-la in our name to live in the zoo. We have collected about half of what we need so continue to bring in old cell-phones for a good cause!!!

Kindness Club News:
Our annual Mitten Tree & Coat Drive was a great success yet again! Thank you so much for all of your generous donations. We were able to bring warmth to dozens of those in need in our commu-nity. Also, thank you for sending in your old cell phones for our Zoo Atlanta/Eco-Cell Drive. We are halfway to our goal of 100! With 100 cell phones, we will symbolically adopt an infant goril-la. By donating your old cell phones, you are help-ing the environment and helping the endangered Mountain Gorilla. Cell phones contain toxic parts which require them to be disposed of in an envi-ronmentally safe way. Check out our Kindness Club page on the school website for more details. February 19th is Georgia Arbor Day! February 15th starting at 8:30AM (while supplies last), stop by the following locations to pick up FREE tree saplings. Available species include the Southern Catalpa, Redbud and River Birch. All species are popular ornamental trees and will be given free on a first-come first-serve basis. From Mrs. Katie in the Clinic: It’s flu season! The CDC recommends you follow the suggestions below to prevent getting the flu:
Try to avoid close contact with sick people.
If you are sick with flu-like illness, stay home for at
least 24 hours after your fever is gone without
the use of a fever-reducing medicine
While sick, limit contact with others as much as
possible to keep from infecting them.
Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you
cough or sneeze. Throw the tissue in the trash
after you use it.
Wash your hands often with soap and water. Scrub
for at least 20 seconds. If soap and water are not
available, use sanitizer.
Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth. Germs
spread this way.
Clean and disinfect surfaces and objects that may be
contaminated with germs.

grade students for being initiated in
