TOOLING IDENTIFICATION AND POSITIONING SYSTEMžWILA’s core activities are aimed at a single mission: To achieve the highest level of productivity for the

innovations, resulting in high quality products. The TIPS system is one of the most recent WILA innovations.

The WILA TIPS system is an integrated part of the press brake control system and supports tooling identification and continuous monitoring of

tooling position. In any position in an upper clamping, lower clamping or storage system, tooling can be located and identified. Due to the very

precise recognition of the tools, the TIPS system indicates if the correct tool is being used, if the length of the tool is correct, and what should be

the exact position of the tool in the clamping system. With this detailed information both errors and test bends can be avoided, resulting in a

substantial increase in productivity.

TIPS TOOLING (A)Each New Standardž Premium (special) tool can be equipped with

a TIPS ID-tag (A1). The ID-tag holds an unique serial number which

represents tool specific information (e.g. tooling length, type, max load,

etc.) which is necessary to identify each tool.

CUSTOM TIPS CONTROLLER (C)The TIPS DIN controller (C1) module is the center of the TIPS system.

The TIPS DIN Controller is connected to the press brake IPC (D). With

the CAN or Ethernet interface it receives commands from the press

brake IPC and controls the identification and positioning process.

A complex algorithm calculates the tool position from the electrical

field which is read from the clamping system. Commands can be

sent and requested using CAN messages (CAN interface) or TCP/IP

messages (Ethernet interface). In this way, by supporting multiple

interfaces, the TIPS system can be easiliy accessed. Furthermore,

CAN routing supports multiple active channels, therefore multipe

TIPS and even WILA Smart Tool Locator function next to each other!

IPC INTEGRATION (D)The communication between the IPC (D) and the TIPS controller (C) is

based on the IPC making commands to the TIPS controller to make a

scan of the complete system. After this command, the TIPS system will

do a complete scan, and the scan results can be retrieved by the

IPC(identification and position of all tooling in the system). In the IPC

the information is processed and used in several ways. For example to

check the tooling setup.

An important aspect is that the integration of our TIPS system in the

IPC is not part of the TIPS solution. This has to be prepared by the IPC

manufacturer (see blue line).

TIPS CLAMPING SYSTEM (B)Any New Standardž Premium automatic clamping system can be

equipped with the TIPS system up to 4590 mm length.

TIPS electronic communication boards are fitted in the complete

length of the clamping system. By means of a continuously changing

electric field, the TIPS system is able to power the ID-tag and receive

messages. Each TIPS Clamping System is connected to the TIPS DIN

Clamping Switch by a cable.
