Tips for Your PPT Report Presentation
Making the grade!
Slide Structure Basics• Use the 6X6 Rule(when possible)
• 6 words across, 6 points down
• Show one point at a time:• Helps audience focus• Prevents audience reading ahead• Helps you keep your presentation focused
K I S S
•Keep It Straight and Simple.• Keywords only.• No sentences!• Never read your slides, talk freely.• Content, not fluff.
Don’t be Silly• Animations sparingly and simple.
• Animations only to draw attention.
Font Basics• Use at least an 18-point
font• Use different size fonts for
main points and secondary points– this font is 24-point, the
main point font is 28-point, and the title font is 44-point
• Use a standard font like Times New Roman or Arial
•Make picture fonts readable
Font Don’ts• If you use a small font, your audience won’t be able to read what you have written
• DON’T YELL WITH CAPITALS!!!
•Don’t use a complicated font
•Not over the tops of photos, unless it’s a caption…
Color Don’ts with text• Font colors that don’t contrast with the
background color are hard to read • Color for decoration is distracting and
annoying.• Different colors for each point are
unnecessary– Different colors for secondary points aren’t needed
• Trying to be creative can also be bad
Background Basics
• Keep them attractive but simple
• Light is better.
• Keep the same background.
• Avoid clutter and distractions.
• Don’t let them get busy like….
this really bright and busy background!!!!
•Keep backgrounds consistent
•Not too busy or flashy
•Avoid photos with silliness
About photos and graphics• They should enhance• Remember attributions
• Just don’t do too many per slide like this…
Where they aren’t related or relevant…
Some final thoughts…• Remember:
– KISS– The presentation adds to you– Content before fluff– Attributions– Have fun!!!
