• In this PowerPoint I’m going to go over some of the huge factors that will help you learn how to draw anime.

Look at the Human Face

• The human face should be round for females and more square for males.

• Male features are larger than a female’s. The only exception is the eyes. Females have larger eyes than males because it makes them appear healthier and more youthful.

• Males have larger noses, more powerful eyebrows, bigger lips, bigger chins, etc.

Look at the Human Face

• Males have more angular shapes and square shapes because it shows off their dominance.

• Females can even look like children sometimes. It’s how the anime genre is and how we exaggerate some characteristics to make the viewer feel a certain way.

Learn to Draw Anime Hair

• Drawing hair is actually easy, it just takes some trial and error. Keep these principles in mind.

• Drawing locks of hair is the fundamental skill here. Once you get that down, the rest is easy.

• A female’s hair has a lot of volume. The bigger and more volume it has, the better it makes your female character look.

Learn to Draw Anime Hair

• A male’s hair usually does not have much volume if you want him to look dominant and masculine.

• But a man can have hair with volume if you want him to appear kind, gentle, and young. Then you can give him long hair or something other than just short hair.

The Eyes are the Window to the Soul!

• I saved the best for last. Learn how to draw eyes! A huge mistake that people make is they try to go all out drawing everything else but they don’t put enough time into the eyes.

• A female’s eyes are large, round, and feminine looking. They draw a lot of attention. They make you feel warm on the inside (unless she is angry of course or feeling a negative emotion).

• A male has squinty and narrow eyes. You can make them somewhat larger but generally a male is always going to have smaller eyes than a female.

• Make your eyes convey emotion to your viewer. Do you want your viewer to see a happy character? Or an angry character?

• Add a highlight in the eyes to make them even more attractive. This gives them a 3D look and draws more attention to them.
