Tips for Completing the HeartCode ACLS online module:

The HeartCode program does not have to be completed all in one sitting. Exception: The entire Pre-Course Self-Assessment must be completed in single sitting. If for any reason you need to stop the program and come back to it later, be sure to complete the module you are in, as incomplete modules may not be recorded/captured. It is best to close the program at the end of the Module. Before you leave the program,

be sure to click the button in the top right-hand corner of the program. This will ensure your progress will be saved.

For the greatest success navigating through the HeartCode program, be sure to watch the Introduction video.

Helpful hints for patient cases:

▪ You can pause the scenario to look for interventions or to look up information.

▪ It is recommended that you pause your first scenario early and familiarize

yourself with all the available interventions by clicking through the different tabs.

▪ You can also fast forward, which is especially helpful during codes.

▪ Whenever possible, ask about allergies and symptoms early, before the patient

goes unresponsive.

▪ Do the fibrinolytic checklist early as well if you think you might need it, before the

patient becomes unresponsive.

▪ You must separately flush IVs after starting and administering IV medications.

▪ There's a button you have to press to say, "All clear" as well as buttons to consult

with experts, call a code, and switch providers during CPR.

▪ When you apply oxygen, you have the ability to titrate the flow as well as

the ventilation rate.

▪ “MET” stands for the medical emergency team.

▪ For targeted temperature management, click the blanket button under “Misc”,

adjust the temperature setting, and click “Initiate TTM”.

Remember to follow the algorithms closely. You may open the provider manual and

ECC handbook anytime under the “Misc” tab.
