Exercise 1

Create a Page Site Admin/WCM

Situation

Begin by creating your page in the Site Administration aka CQ5 WCM. The location of the page will be found in the CQ Training node, which is the last folder in the hierarchy.

TIP: you must be highlighted on a page for NEW icon to be activated in menu bar.

Standard: When naming web pages, please use hyphen – VS. _ underscore for multiple words in Name field.

Create a Subfolder for images DAM

Situation

You want to categorize your page’s images, docs and media in the Digital Asset Manager (DAM). The location of the subfolders will be created in the following folder paths: CQ Training→images and CQ Training→docs. Name the subfolder using the following training user specific data below. TIP: you create New folders the same way you created a New web page and sub-page.

Exercise 6

Upload Digital Assets into Sub-folders Rename (“Move”) Document

DAM

Situation

When highlighted on the intended upload folder, open the CQTraining folder under the DAM. Proceed to choose filed by Browse to upload all photos (.jpg files) and all documents. Upload the photos into the images subfolder and upload the documents into the docs subfolder.

Reference handout regarding UC Creative Services Photography Use policy.

Situation

You want to rename (“move”) a document uploaded in the previous exercise. Rename or Move the uploaded document with the name "Mission" to the new name "mission statement."

Insert and edit the UC Text Component Sidekick

Situation

Now you are ready to organize and create the components for your page! Go back to CQ5 WCM or Site Admin by clicking on the world icon or the open tab at the top of Firefox. (TIP: once you move to WCM, you will have to double-click on the intended page you want to edit.) Insert the component, UC Text, under General tab of the Sidekick. Right click inside the UC Text component to choose Edit.

TIP: MAC USERS: to Edit = double-click; Right-click is Ctrl + click

You want to add a link to UC’s mission statement in PDF, rather than adding the text to your page and therefore use UC Download component. Go back to General tab of the Sidekick to add component. Drop and drag the document titled Mission Statement.pdf into Edit the UC Download component OR right-click and Edit the tabs referenced below.

Exercise 12

Insert and Edit the Reference Component Sidekick

Situation

You want to link to directions to UC on your page. Insert the Reference component (under General tab of Sidekick) into the page and right-click to Edit the reference component. Reference: University of Cincinnati →Visitors→ Directions to UC’s Uptown Campus and Select.

Benefit of using Reference Component (link vs. reference) – this keeps user on site page rather than opening up link to the reference page. NOTE: point out the “/content” prefix to web address.

Utilize WCM or DAM to check out those pages that are Referencing your page.

The message below will appear if there are References to your page and you try to delete it. Click “No” to view the reference links that will be broken once the page is deleted.

Exercise 13

Delete Components Site Admin

Situation

Delete any of the UC components you do not want on the page you created throughout these exercises.

Exercise 14

Activate a Page; Deactivate a Page Site Admin

Situation

You are ready to publish your page! Activate from the Site Admin or Sidekick.

TIP: if working on many changes on a site, ensure the previous version is saved in case you want to restore.

After activating the page in the previous exercise, you have decided that it needs to be reviewed by another person before the decision is made to have it published to the web. Deactivate from the Site Admin or Sidekick.

IF YOU ARE GOING TO DELETE A PAGE→ please deactivate your page before deleting or it will still exist on the live site even though CQ5 sees nothing. Contact [email protected] for help.
