PBS member station, KNPB, serving northern Nevada and northeastern California, is proud to take part in the KNPB PBS KIDS Writers Contest.

Few things can capture a child’s imagination like a good book. KNPB PBS KIDS Writers Contest invites children, kindergarten through third grade, in communities across our area to use their boundless imaginations to create original stories and illustrations and then submit them to their local PBS station. This year, thousands of children from northern Nevada and northeastern California participated in the KNPB PBS KIDS Writers Contest, building their creative voices, and developing critical reading and writing skills.

Visit our website at knpb.org/writerscontest to find out more about the contest, read the winning stories and watch the winners announce their stories.

    “Space Adventure” by Peter

    Brown Elementary School

  • 8 9

  • One sunny day Dave, Martin, and Peter

took off in a rocket. It was a big rocket painted

red, white, and blue. I was excited!

    10 11

  • We are going to outer space to find aliens. As the ship

took off, it was a bumpy ride. Luckily, we had our seatbelts on.

    As we entered into space,

    12 13

  • we saw asteroids and planets. Mars was our destination.

It is known as the red planet. Mars is about 34 million

miles from Earth. Finally, we have arrived.

    14 15

  • As we got off the ship, we saw 4 aliens.

They were green aliens. The leader was orange.

The aliens wanted a jewel, so we said, “Yes.”

    16 17

  • We gave them a jewel that looked like a blue eye. “That is what we needed,”

they said. It will help us grow life on this planet.

    18 19

  • We helped them save Mars and we made new friends. After, we played with our new friends for a while, it was time to fly home.
