Discuss mission, 2 programs that the agency has, and why agency is of interest to you

Will be using a template to complete this project

Will be filling in sections of an Executive Summary (mission statement, history, populations served)

Project also consists of identifying 6 potential funders for your program

Evaluate 2 sample project summaries in textbook

Answer 2 sets of questions (answers must be 250-500 words) First set of questions deal with evaluating

which project summary is most convincing Second set of questions deal with giving

suggestions on how you could improve the weaker project summary

Will need to create a needs statement using the template provided for this Unit’s project How many people are impacted by the

Many students find it helpful to have hard copies of important course documents, such as syllabi. Some even create a folder or binder for this class to help keep them organized.

Most online students are juggling careers, family, and educational responsibilities so effective time management is key. Some students utilize a planner, Outlook calendar, do their discussion boards, etc. at the same time each day, etc. to help them stay on track.

Even with the best time management plan there are times where we might get off track. If that happens, just get in touch with me and we can come up with a plan to help you get caught up.

Please read your course material for the week before seminar and posting to the discussion board. Part of your grade will be how well you integrate what you learned from the reading into your assignment.

Please attend seminars or view the seminar transcript. Seminars will review the course material for the week and help prepare you for formulating a response to the discussion board questions and projects

Discussion boards are worth 41% of your final grade so please read the chapter before you post and spend time formulating and editing your posts before submitting them.

The discussion boards are worth 45pts each week and the requirement for the DB is: One primary post of at least 100 words to each

discussion board question Two responses to your classmates per thread that are at

least 50 words in length. Please refer to the reading or other source in your

primary posts and use good spelling, grammar, and punctuation.

Discussion boards are due by the end of each unit on Tuesday at 11:59PM EST.

Reading your course material, paying attention to the feedback on your discussion boards and prior projects, and attending seminars will help you attain a good grade on your projects.

Please read the project instructions and grading rubrics carefully and let me know if you have any questions before the due date. The rubrics tell you what I am looking for in grading your project

Grant is an award of money-allows you to do very specific things, but there are specific guidelines to follow with the money

Before you apply for a grant, you must have a problem that your agency wants to solve. How do we solve problem? How much will it cost?

Can also seek grant funding for existing programs

Do not change program to match grant/find grant that matches program-WHY??

Less funding during difficult economic times, but it is still out there

Always stay true to the mission of your agency. You can expand services and look for grant money to do so, but everything must relate to your mission!

THE FUNDERS Foundations-family, private, corporate,

financial institutions, etc. Foundation Center (www.fdncenter.org or www.foundationcenter.org) is a good place to get information from 990 tax filings-list what organizations they funded/how much, etc.

Businesses-Local banks, community businesses, etc.

Federal Grants-Can be more cumbersome to apply to, but can offer more stable, longer lasting grant funding to agencies
