Hi Everybody

Welcome to the new look Enlightening Times and I am delighted to be able to say that we only have positive news to report this quarter and some interesting highlights are as follows: The month of September turned out to be the best month in the 31 year history of the company and then lo and behold October turned out to be an even better month! The best part of this fantastic news is that we beat all previous records by all metrics and the business performed exceptionally well in every single market in which we operate. A huge word of thanks is due to all of our staff members but in particular our warehouse team as I do not know how they managed to dispatch so many orders during these two months. Well done to Liam and his team.

It’s also exciting to see that our list of key markets continues to grow and expand across Ireland, UK, Australia/New Zealand, Benelux, France, Austria, Germany, Scandinavia and the Baltics. We are seeing the ROBUS brand being well established in each of these markets through the determination and drive of our focused and hard working teams.

The Irish economy continues to recover dramatically and obviously this is particularly important for us being an indigenous Irish company with headquarters in Dublin.

The UK results continue to grow dramatically exceeding all our expectations in a mature market and we have seen considerable success with project sales, our now familiar promotion Magnificent Seven Ride Again and our close working relationships with LIA Verified Scheme and the Enhanced Capital Allowance Scheme. As you read through the newsletter these will be explained in more depth.

I also took an interesting trip to Moscow at the start of this month and there are some good opportunities there for the Robus brand which I am currently reviewing. During the last few months we also received our first order from Austria.

Further afield, our China office continues to provide huge support to the various departments in head office, including but not limited to Purchasing, NPD, RD&I, QC and marketing. The appointment of Connie Wu as the GM of the China office has been a huge advantage to the company and she continues to do a great job. We also took part in the Hong Kong International Lighting Exhibition during October and we have received a huge number of inquiries which we are diligently working our way through.

From January 2016, Derek Slein our Exports Director will be overseeing the Australian side of the business as well as Europe and Asia. Our Australia business continues to grow at a phenomenal rate and we believe we are now in the top 5 suppliers in our space to the wholesale trade.

With the upturn in the economy, training and personal development is back high on the agenda and many of our team have recently taken part in various programmes.

On the recruitment front we have had an especially busy time particularly in the finance space with Christian Dijkstra joining as Financial Director in June and just this week was joined by Robert Pickerill, Financial Controller. Earlier this year we also appointed a Financial Controller for Australia, Niel De Jager. With all these accountants around me how am I, a humble salesman, going to survive?!

Anyhow onwards and upwards and a huge personal thanks from me to all of our customers worldwide without whom we would not have a business. Your support is what is allowing LED Group to experience this ongoing growth.

LIA VERIFICATIONThe 40W SPACE Panel has achieved LIA Verified status and is now listed on the LIA Labs website. Access to the full test report can be found here: www.lialabcert.org.uk.

LIA LABS REGISTERED PHOTOMETRIC LABORATORIES SCHEMELED Group’s in-house Photometric Lab has achieved registered status under the LIA Labs Registered Photometric Laboratories Scheme and is now listed on its website, having successfully met the stringent requirements of the Lighting Industry Association (LIA) inspection team. This provides independent assurance of the validity of the photometric data published by LED Group for its products.

LED Group were required to undergo a thorough inspection of the Laboratory in order to verify the adequacy of the photometric equipment, documentation and the technical competence of the staff to carry out photometric measurements using integrating spheres. The Sphere Photometry Scheme, verifies the capability of a manufacturer’s laboratory to test all the normal types of lighting products using an integrating sphere. The importance of this scheme is that it provides an assurance of the validity of the photometric data published by LED Group in relation to the performance of ROBUS lighting products.

Consequently, LED Group are now permitted to describe its laboratory as a ‘LIA Laboratories Registered Photometric Laboratory’ endorsed by the reputation of the LIA Laboratories (Accreditation to ISO/IEC 17025). This gives our customers full assurance of the validity of product data for ROBUS products. LIA Laboratories will ensure, by regular inspection, that the quality of the measurements made by LED Group’s Laboratory is maintained at an appropriately high standard.

WEEELED Group is now registered for WEEE in Germany. WEEE registration is a pre-requiste for doing business in Germany, so this has helped to lay the platform for our first sales in Germany.

ENHANCED CAPITAL ALLOWANCE SCHEMELED Group continues to add to the ranges approved under the ECA (Enhanced Capital Allowance) scheme, which allows for total capital costs of approved lighting products to be written off against taxable profits.

LED Group is delighted to announce that six ranges of ROBUS LED now comply with the eligibility and performance criteria requirements of The ECA Energy Technology Criteria List.

Enhanced Capital Allowances (ECA’s) are a straightforward way for a business to improve its cash flow through accelerated tax relief on the cost of lighting products, transport to site and cost of installation. The Energy Technology Criteria List (ETCL) presents the energy-saving performance criteria that ECA qualifying equipment must meet.

Investing in these products reduces operating costs and improves energy efficiency which in turn results in lower energy bills, reduced climate change levy payments and shortenedpayback periods.

RAISING THE BAR FOR DOWNLIGHTING

TRIUMPH ACTIVATE represents the state of the art in LED downlight technology. We set out to create the perfect downlight, marrying our flagship LEDCHROIC optic to our best fire-rated enclosure technology. At the core of TRIUMPH is the ACTIVATE technology. ACTIVATE is truly driver-on-board (DOB), an LED light engine board powered directly by mains power. A powerful electronics circuit incorporating semiconductor integrated circuit technology replaces the old style external or integrated driver with its mass of discrete components. We are particularly happy not to have an electrolytic capacitor anywhere in the product – this is usually the first point of failure in LED drivers.

TRIUMPH ACTIVATE is a paradigm shift in LED lighting. The light engine is manufactured in a fully automated semiconductor motherboard assembly plant, using automated pick and place, phosphor dispensing, and soldering machines. It is assembled by robotics and inspected by machine vision. We have brought computer chip assembly methods into the lighting industry. Our Korean manufacturing partner for the light engine is one of the top ten LED manufacturers globally, and an experienced supplier of backlight technology to the high end flat screen TV market.

ROBUS has raised the bar for downlighting with TRIUMPH. TRIUMPH doesn’t just pass part L1 and L2 building regulations – it obliterates them at 80 lumens per circuit Watt efficiency warm white! It has a fire rated enclosure, obligatory in Ireland and UK under law for many building types which have fire resistant ceilings.

TRIUMPH ACTIVATE is also a dream to install. There is no external driver to mount on a joist. Our new SWIFT connector is pre-wired to TRIUMPH, so all the electrician

LED Group ROBUS continues to grow across Continental Europe with the sales team planted across Benelux, Germany, France and Austria with further expansion imminent!

Our recent promotions included the IN IT TO WIN IT programme where we ran an instore competition in the Netherlands with mystery boards which sees our partners being able to reward their customers with prizes ranging from iPads, weekends breaks and even a brand new scooter!

MARKETING UPDATE

2015 has been an extremely busy year for Marketing as the team have worked

across a variety of projects…

Earlier this year, we conducted a ROBUS contractor survey in various Electrical Wholesalers in Ireland to learn about contractors’ purchasing preferences when it comes to ordering lighting. The purpose of the study was to recognise our positioning in our home place of Ireland and use the results to continuously improve our range and service. From the survey we learnt what motivates our customers to stay loyal to ROBUS, why contractors might use other lighting brands and an insight to contractors’ buying behaviours. ROBUS is dedicated to building a market leading brand and as a valued lighting buyer the Contractors’ honest responses will help us to further optimise our range and service to meet their specific needs. As a thank you for participating in the survey, each contractor received a ROBUS Polo-Shirt and was then entered into a draw to win an iPad. The lucky winner of the draw was Nigel Eakins from Cootehill in Co.Cavan.

So far this year ROBUS has exhibited at over 15 exhibitions around the globe including the SEAI Energy Show in Dublin, Facilities Management Show in Dublin, Guangzhou Lighting Fair in China, Traders 500 in Australia, Lux Elex Lighting Show in Dublin, Lighting Fair in Hong Kong (pictured above) and most recently Interclima + Elec Show in Paris. All of these, plus many more local customer events in Europe have proved very successful and the results are already evident in new commercial projects and export endeavours. Preparations are well underway for Light+Build 2016 taking place in Frankfurt next March where the ROBUS stand will not disappoint, look out for us in Hall 4.1 Stand G89.

We have also been very busy launching a series of new ROBUS product videos which are now available on our ROBUS YouTube Channel. Simply log on to our YouTube channel where you can access our videos on the TRIUMPH ACTIVATE Downlight, GOLF Surface Fitting, VULCAN Corrosion Proof Fitting, SPACE Panel, VIBE Striplight There is also an installation video for the VIBE Striplight showing you everything you need to install the striplight as quick and convenient as possible. Over the past 9 months ROBUS have launched a range of ROBUS marketing literature including 6 versions of the 2015 ROBUS Catalogue- UK/ Ireland, Australia, Finnish, French, Dutch & German!

We also launched the ROBUS TRIUMPH ACTIVATE brochure to coincide with the biggest ever ROBUS product launch which also saw the birth of a new mini website entirely dedicated to the TRIUMPH ACTIVATE. The latest edition to our collection – The Magnificent Seven Ride Again brochure which is flying off the shelves in the wholesalers due to its contemporary design and excellent case study content. Brand new products featured in this brochure include the ATMOS LED Panel, SCHOLAR Linear Fitting as well as new additions to the ACTIVATE range.

Already the team are working on the 2016 catalogue which is set to be the largest ever ROBUS product catalogue packed full of new product imagery, in situ images, technical information and quality procedures here at the LED Group. Watch this space!

Finally, we are very excited to launch our new ROBUS modular instore display to the market! At ROBUS we are renowned for our state of the art display showroom at our Dublin Headquarters as well our counter top displays available in wholesalers.

We like to stay ahead of the curve in terms of design and usability, but we have exceeded our own expectations with this one. The tall black glossy vacu-form plastic display is lightweight but extremely sturdy. It can be attached from a slat wall or simply freestanding.

The individual boards can be taken off and switched around – each board connects using SWIFT connectors for Click Off / Click On installation and they are independently switched. The first display will have 2 large boards – GOLF LED Surface Fitting & INSPIRE ACTIVATE LED Downlight and 2 small boards- TRIUMPH ACTIVATE LED Downlight & EMERALD LED Lamps. In 2016 we look forward to introducing new boards which means the ROBUS Display will always feature the latest LED technology available from LED Group ROBUS.

Oisín comes all the way from Achill Island and holds a Masters in Management degree from UC3M in Madrid. Oisín began his time here covering maternity leave in the Marketing Department, and will soon begin his Management Graduate Programme in the business.

Peter started on the 26th March and brings with him extensive experience in Sales & Customer Service, having spent over 15 years working in the electrical industry, covering both Industrial & Commercial Electrical applications.

Stephen is now over the six month mark in the business and joined us with many years’ experience in the challenging retail management world. He brings with him extensive knowledge of customer service, ensuring customer satisfaction and product range management.

Aurelie started with LED in March. Aurelie adds to the ever expanding international element, holds a Master’s degree in International Business alongside considerable marketing experience working with Dalkia Group and CNH.

Christian, who joined LED early last June, initially trained as a Chartered Accountant with Deloitte in South Africa and since then has had a wide range of experience across the globe in both financial advisory and director roles.

Kate, a Kilkenny native, was welcomed into the LED fold this September, and is a recent graduate of Limerick School of Art and Design with a BA Honours Degree in Visual Communication. We’re sure that she will add greatly to the creative side of the business.

Christina joined the accounts payable department at the start of September 2015 having spent 3 years in the financial services industry. She recently qualified with the ACCA. Originally from Killarney, she has been living in Dublin for the last few years.

Robert, who joined LED recently, has come from Price Waterhouse Cooper as a Chartered Accountant. Robert worked in the asset management division within Price Waterhouse Cooper and has worked on a wide range of audits for large global investment managers.

UK Sales

Earlier in the year, Josh became part of the sales team for the Northern region as an ASR for the East Midlands, working closely with Gary Spencer. Josh joins the LED Group from Deta Electrical where he has spent the past two years working as the ASM.

This summer, Steve joined LED Group from Savant (RGB) from his role working as Head of Business Devel-opment. Prior to that Steve worked as an external Sales person for Newey and Eyre Park Royal as well as with Dextra for a three year period.

Robert, a qualified electrician, joined LED Group in August from Lampsource after a 5 ½ year tenure, in which he progressed from Internal Sales to Business Development Manager. Robert has also worked in retail lighting sales and been a Sales Rep for ECI Lighting.

Connie has been the General Manager and NPD Manager of the LED Group China Office since April 2015.

Kevin started in LED Group in June 2015 as a Tester of the QE Department.

Avril, a Purchasing Assistant, began her time at LED Group in July 2015.

Exports Sales

Gael Philippart joined the Exports Team earlier this year and brings with him a wealth of knowledge of the electrical wholesale market from his time spent as a Branch Manager with YESSS Electrique.

Wesley became part of the LED sales force in January 2015, tasked with the development of the Benelux region. His main focus is to develop a small number of existing accounts within said area as well as to build up a strong foundation of new national and local wholesalers.

Dorian became part of the LED sales force this summer. His area for development is initially the Aquitaine Region and his main focus is to develop a small number of existing accounts within the area as well as building up a strong foundation of new National and local wholesalers.

Stefanie joins us as a new Area Sales Representative to increase the sales force now moving into the German Market. Stefanie will focus primarily on the South of Germany. Stefanie is an enthusiastic person who enjoys collecting new recipes on her travels.

Jonathan joins us as a new Country Sales Manager who’s focus will be on managing an existing customer base of National accounts across Europe as well as developing business in both Scandinavia and the Baltic States. Jonathan has also just recently become a dad!

Anatassiya holds a Master’s degree in Business/Professional Accounting, and is about to graduate as a Chartered Accountant. She worked in financial sector for over two years as well as running her own business for more than 13 years.

Niel, who joined the LED Group Australia in May 2015 as Financial Controller, initially studied accounting at the University of Stellenbosch and since worked in a number of senior accounting roles. Niel is currently studying a MSc. in Business with the Michael Smurfit Business School.

Martin, who started with us earlier this year was born in the UK, beginning his career in the military before taking the plunge into the electrical wholesale world, with Newey & Eyre. He moved to Australia back in 2003 where amongst other things was a branch manager with P&R.

Roslyn joined us here at LED at the very start of 2015. Roslyn has great experience in the lightning industry, initially working for Philips Lighting for 7.5 years and then Thorn Lighting for 18 months.

Tania started on the 12th of July 2015 and brings with her 20+ years of Administration and PA experience in the Sales & Customer Service sphere along with 10+ years of Electrical Industry knowledge.
