Summary

If there is one word that sums up the essence of everything, it must be ‘Time’. This project will involve European students in a journey into the discovery of time in order to investigate and understand humankind’s continuing search to measure, define, use and control 'Time': from a world ruling time to a time-ruled world. Time is a basic human concept. The basis of our awareness of time comes from our experience of nature: heartbeat, day and night, seasons. We may reflect on the past and plan for the future and this understanding allows us to transcend the limitations of our lifetime and take responsibility for the future. As Plato wrote: “Time was made together with the sky”; the main emphasis will be on the link between time and astronomy. However, contributions from other curriculum areas both scientific (mathematics, biology) and otherwise (history, geography, philosophy, languages, art, music) will increase students’ awareness of the many roles of time in our lives, cultures and scientific endeavours. Students of varying ages and abilities will work in activities designed to motivate at a range of levels, and will report on their findings through conferences and on a dedicated website. The opportunities offered to develop confidence, to engage in peer learning and to improve linguistic and communication skills will make a great contribution to students’ personal development and the key life-skills and competencies needed to take their place in society as active European citizens. Monday 19th March 14.05 English group arrives Terminal Rome Airport. 14.40 Dutch group arrives Terminal Rome Airport. 15.00 Bus (Calabresi Coaches) will transport both groups from airport to Scuola Belli. 15.45 -16.00 – Visitors arrive at school. Welcome. Refreshments available. 16.15-17 pupils go home with host pupils/ families Once visiting pupils have departed, visiting staff have a tour of school and set up posters on notice boards in foyer.
