Time Machine Web Console

The Solution-Soft Time Machine Web Console allows users to propagate or reset a virtual date

across multiple machines defined by configuration files from a simple and intuitive website,

instead of manually logging into each machine where Time Machine resides and setting the virtual

date/time. Below goes into further detail of each page.

Multiple configuration files may be defined and saved. Users can select the desired configuration file to synchronize all systems listed within to one virtual clock.

Requirements: - Time Machine Web Console- Time Machine Installed on each controlled machine- Web Browser

**The terms virtual clock, virtual date, and virtual time are used interchangeably.

Home This page contains a graphic showing the power and usage of Time Machine in your environment. As you can see, Time Machine encapsulates your entire testing infrastructure with a virtual time. With Time Machine, you can dynamically create different virtual date/times without having to modify any system settings or having to worry about secure environments such as Active Directory or Kerberos.

Set Virtual Time This page allows users to create virtual times that all your registered machines and users/groups defined by the configuration file will see instead of the system time.

To create a virtual time, first select the desired configuration file. If no configuration file is defined, go to Add Systems to create a configuration file. Then select the date/time through the drop downmenus and when finished click either “Apply Relative Date” or “Apply Absolute Date”.

When you want to clear/remove all your virtual clocks defined by the configuration file andreturn your machines back to normal system time click the button “RESET”.

The “Set Clock Speed” option, allows you to create a virtual time that moves at a speed from 1x -1000x normal speed. This is equivalent to pressing fast forward on a DVD player.

You can create & apply 2 types of virtual dates.

1) Absolute Virtual Date– Creates a distinct virtual time that replaces the system time

a. Example: System Time = 5:00 PM 1/1/2011. Creating an absolute virtual date of9:00 PM 9/9/2019 overwrites the system time and applies the newly created virtual date.

2) Relative Virtual Date– Creates a virtual time by adding an offset value to the system time

a. Example: System Time = 5:00 PM 1/1/2011. Creating a virtual offset of 2 hours, 2

months, 2 days, 2 years, will be added to the system time to give a new virtual date/time

of 7:00 PM 3/3/2013 to the machines.

b. You can either add or subtract an offset value with the “+” and “-” options.

Add Systems

This page allows users to create, delete, and update configuration files. New machines and users/groups information can be added to the configuration file. To create a new configuration file, click Create New Config File. To delete a configuration file, select the file from the drop down and click Delete Selected Config File. To make copy of a seleted configuration file, click Duplicate Selected Config File.To add a new machine to the configuration file, fill out the 4 form fields and click Apply.

To delete a machine altogether, click Delete on the far right of the machine list.

To edit a machine record, click Edit on the far right of the machine list. After clicking Edit, make the needed updates to the fields and click Update to finalize the changes.

If an error occurs applying the virtual date, a banner will appear on top indicating the type of error and

provide 2 buttons to proceed. Clicking View Error button will redirect you to the Error Log page to

view the error along with others in further detail.

When a Virtual Clock is added successfully, the Active Virtual Clock display will show on the top right of the Web Console. This display is persistent and will be present even after the browser session is closed or the site is accessed from another browser.

Notes

- You can only create 1 active virtual clock per configuration file.that will apply to the entire machine list.

- Each Apply Date button corresponds to their respective section

- The RESET button clears all clocks, both Relative and Absolute defined by the onfiguration file.

Help

This page contains the guide to help users understand the functionality of the web console.

When adding a Linux or UNIX Machine, 2 additional fields will appear (like below), asking for the login credentials for an Administrative account that will set the virtual clock for the added users.

When finished entering the credentials click Insert UNIX/Linux machine.

Error Log Provides a log of the errors and actions performed using the Time Machine Web Console. There are 5 logging levels, 1 being off and 5 being the maximum. To change your logging level, select a level through the click menu and click Set Level. To clear the error log page click the Clear Log button on the far right.
