Painting on timber is quite different to painting on brickwork or board. Timber has special characteristics and unique requirements, which is why Cabot’s developed Timbercolour, a premium, self-priming, oil enriched acrylic paint. For previously stained, oiled or painted timber, remove coating and take back to bare using a paint stripper or by sanding.
Prepare the surface using Cabot’s Deck Clean and a stiff bristled brush. If the timber has particularly stubborn areas, rub down with mineral turps and a rag.
Test to see if it’s ready for coating by sprinkling water on the surface. If the water beads, repeat the application of Deck Clean. If it is absorbed, the timber is ready for coating.
Coat the timber surface with your chosen colour.
For weathered timber go directly to step 2. For new (bare) timber, first allow the timber to weather for 4-6 weeks.
Prepare the surface using Cabot’s Deck Clean and a stiff bristled brush.
Test to see if it’s ready for coating by sprinkling water on the surface. If the water beads, repeat the application of Deck Clean. If it is absorbed, the timber is ready for coating.
Coat the timber surface with your chosen colour.
