What I really am is a portrait ar tist. I paint portraits of my clients - not their faces but their personalities. And

I paint those portraits not on canvas but in space. - Adam D. Tihany

Adam D. Tihany is recognized as the founding father of the restaurant design movement.. .And has been

responsible for some of the most famous restaurants in the United States. - Luxury Briefing

Over more than three decades, Tihany has built a reputation as one of the world’s leading, if not the leading,

hospitality designers, conceiving the creative vision of restaurants and hotels from Singapore and Shanghai,

to London and Las Vegas. What sets his work apart from many of his contemporaries is its sense of place. -

Tatler Magazine

He’s a great visionary and with each restaurant he gets better and better. He is the easiest person to work

with and the most reliable in producing exactly what I am looking for. - Sir io Maccioni

Adam is one of the rare designers who understands a client ’s- be it a chef ’s, restaurateur ’s, or homeowner ’s

sense of style, concept, and ambience as well as their personality. After my first meeting with him, he

understood me, and then the sky was the l imit. He kept it pure, understated, and down to the essentials. -

Jean Georges Vongerichten

Over the years, Adam has taught me to think of restaurants in a deeper way. I don’t just ask myself : What k ind

of place do I want to open? Nowadays, the questions verge on existential. I ask: Who am I? Where am I

coming from? And where, exactly, do I want to go? - Thomas Keller

The Veneto. New York, New York. Located on Manhattan’s

prominent East Side, The Veneto is a 34-story residential

tower designed as a contemporary take on classic Italian

style. The design goal was to recapture and modernize a

sense of the sophisticated Italian glamour of the 1950s;

the style created by designers like Oleg Cassini, Gucci,

Pucci, and personified by Jackie Kennedy that resonated in

so many aspects of American life during that period.

The Joule, Dallas, Texas. Lobby and Lounge. Located in the heart of one of America’s most dynamic cities, The Joule is one of Dallas’s most stylish and contemporary hotels. Adam D. Tihany conceived the 129-room boutique hotel, rooftop pool, and public spaces with effortless elegance, putting The Joule in a unique class of its own. Jules Verne’s Journey to the Center of the Earth is the inspiration behind the design concept. This idea, paired with the rich patina of Texan culture and energy, results in a sensuous hospitality experience.

Housed in a landmark neo-gothic building, the existing Lobby Lounge features mohair and leather chairs in deep jewel tones set against ivory marble floors. The reception area has been expanded and complemented with a stunning, signature lighting fixture crowning the arrival desk. Transitioning through the Main Lobby, guests proceed into a gallery corridor, lined with original hand-made mosaic collectables from the Mercantile National Bank, which Tim Headington, owner of the Joule, extracted from the original building’s walls.

Westin Chosun, Seoul, Korea. Lobby and Reception Area.

Situated in Seoul’s thriving business district, The Westin

Chosun was the first western-style hotel in Korea when

the original hotel opened in 1914. With the hotel’s

commitment to luxury in mind, Tihany Design redesigned

the entire ground floor and basement levels including

the lobby and reception area. Graduated gateways of

polished Mozambique wood frame the lobby, slowly

revealing the expansive space highlighted by a Henry

Moore sculpture. The reception area features a specially

commissioned hand-engraved screen panel by French

artist Zoe Ouvrier and custom-made lamps with porcelain

shades by Bernaudaud. Luxurious shades of sandal, birch,

and cocoa, enhanced by silk throw pillows, complete the

comfort of the welcoming area.

by the Viennese Secession, this chic, new restaurant

speaks a design vocabulary reflective of the detailed

craftsmanship and style of that period while expressing

its own contemporary viewpoint. A striking, double

height entry-way paneled in rich, ebonized wood greets

guests upon entrance to restaurant. A custom, hand

blown glass sculpture resembling a pearl necklace is

strung across the ceiling, creating dynamic reflections

of light throughout the space. Connecting the main

dining level with the mezzanine is a stairway adorned

with nickel plated steel railings displaying intricate

details. The mezzanine level features an inviting bar

and private dining area while the ground floor contains

the main dining room and sunny, outdoor terrace.

Featuring bespoke furnishings handcrafted in Italy,

custom floor coverings, and a stunning inlaid marble

floor the restaurant reflects a sophisticated and subtle

individuality while setting a unique tone for the hot

neighborhood of Cheongdam Dong and its most

desirable new dining destination.

Bocuse, The Culinary Institute of America, Hyde Park, New

York. The Culinary Institute of America looked to Tihany

Design to create Bocuse, a new restaurant that provides

a state-of-the-art training ground for students and a

modern dining experience for visitors. Named after the

legendary Chef Paul Bocuse, the restaurant pays homage

to his influence on the culinary industry and the next

generation of culinary professionals. While Bocuse is

contemporary in style and function, the design celebrates

elements of the traditional French brasserie and

highlights the admirable history of its eminent namesake.

Wainsccoting, chandeliers and intricately patterned

molding have been translated to a modern aesthetic

and wall sconces resembling his signature chef toque

are topped with small, Bernardaud Porcelain figurines of

Bocuse himself.

Sirio, The Pierre, New York, New York. Sirio at The

Pierre is Adam D. Tihany’s eighth collaboration with

the celebrated Maccioni Restaurant Group. A nod to

the high style aesthetic of 1960’s Italy, the restaurant

recalls the classic Italian ristorante and casual elegance

of Federico Fellini’s “La Dolce Vita.” Limestone-inspired

walls evoke Italian facades and refined, wood arches

echo the classical arcades featured in artist Bram Tihany’s

black-and-white Italian streetscapes hanging below.

This evocative bespoke photo installation transports the

spacious plazas, expansive corridors and vast skies of

the Old World landscape to this intimate, contemporary

interior.

brings together the wide variety of exquisite cuisine

and dining areas. The light symbolizes the inspiration

found behind The Line of continuity—in nature, culture,

family, life. The overall look is distinctive with modern

touches such as four custom-made art films by New York

Veranda, Harvey Nichols, Kuwait. Located inside The Avenues, Kuwait’s largest

shopping destination, Veranda sits on the upper level of Harvey Nichols’ first

store in the country. Occupying a 10,000 square foot space, Veranda’s scale

and spacious layout echoes the grand scope of The Avenues experience while

conveying a sense of intimacy and the serene. A dramatic, sculptural “canyon”

of polished, stainless steel, sets the tone for a strong and transformative arrival

experience. Light wood beams buttress an all-encompassing white ceiling

composed of curvaceous layers. These undulating forms – whose lightness hints

at a sky hovering above – ultimately bend into layered, white walls that frame

the dining area. The restaurant features artwork by Bram Tihany in the form

of monumental, photographic murals depicting topiary sculptures of fashion

accessories including stilettos, hand bags and sunglasses.

S Twist, Mandarin Oriental, Las Vegas, Nevada. A dramatic all-glass suspended

wine loft accessible via a glass staircase lures visitors into Twist by Pierre

Gagnaire the Mandarin Oriental Las Vegas’ signature restaurant from the three-

star Michelin chef. Upon entering the restaurant, guests are greeted with rare

views of the sparkling city heights through the restaurant’s soaring 20-foot

high windows. Once inside, the cracked plaster art walls bear resemblance to

cracked eggshells, while 316 cast-glass light spheres float above guests, casting

delightfully soft light on their tables below.

Adam D. Tihany acted as a design consultant for Adamson Associates Architects

on this project.

Bar Boulud, The Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park, London.

Inspired by the wines of Bourgogne, guests enter the

bar lounge and are embraced by the design of modern,

vaulted ceilings paired with classic raw materials such

as wood, leather, cork, and zinc. Vintage oak floors and

wainscoting are reminiscent of traditional wine barrels,

and red leather banquettes and chairs conjure the warm

depths of a delectable Burgundy. Moving into the dining

room, a functional and sleek open kitchen features clean,

white, French subway tiles, while a long glass display

offers guests tastes of authentic French charcuterie and

a mélange of cheese, evocative of a traditional French

Bistro.
