    Premier’s Spelling Bee!

Congratulations to all of our super spellers who took part in our

annual Premier's Spelling Bee last fortnight. It was a tough

competition with many challenging words. Well done to our

Stage 2 winners Evie and Ella and Stage 3 winners Dexter and

Chelsea. They will represent our school later this term in the

Regional finals. Thank you to the parents and grandparents who

came along to watch and support our children.

    Kindergarten Enrolments for 2019

Families with students to commence Kindergarten in 2019 are

asked to contact the school office. This enables us to correctly

estimate enrolments and staff required for 2019. Parents are

asked to help contact new families to Tighes Hill who have

Kinders or other new enrolments for 2019. Likewise, please let

me know of any neighbours and friends, who may not have chil-

dren already at this school but will have school age children for

2019 so we can then contact them and include them on our num-

    bers for next year.

    Callaghan Education Pathways Recognition Assembly

On Monday 6th August, I was fortunate to attend this special

event with staff, students and parents from the 18 primary and

high schools of our cluster. Children from all these schools

received Excellence Awards for their work in our schools.

    Lost Property

We have a number of items in lost property. These items

generally do not have any name labels on them. Larger items

such as clothing, lunch boxes, drink bottles are kept under the

sink in the lower hall. Smaller items such as purses/wallets,

jewellery, thumb drives, sunglasses etc are kept at the office.

We have quite a collection and encourage you to check these

areas if you have lost any of these items.

    year's Premier's Reading Challenge! There's

only a few weeks left to enter your reading log

Thank you and well done to all of our Children’s University students who attended our after school learning

session in Week 2. A huge thank you to our amazing parent volunteers; Elena, Sarah, Bec and Brooke!

We are so lucky to have incredibly talented and generous parents to give their time and share their

expertise and love of learning with our kids.

Just a reminder to all students taking part in the Children’s University program that passport hours need to

be completed and checked by Ms Armstrong or Mrs Schonberger by the end of this term. The last day to

have your passport checked to qualify for graduation is Friday 21st September. If you haven’t had your

passport hours checked recently, please bring your passport in to school ASAP.

Save the date! All CU students who have 30 hours of validated learning for 2018 will be invited to the

University of Newcastle for a special Graduation Ceremony in Term 4 on the evening of Tuesday 6th

    November.

If you’re looking for extra hours to qualify for graduation, remember to visit the Children’s University page

on our school website to download the Term 3 activity booklet. There are also lots of

DO YOU HAVE AN INTEREST OR SKILLS IN THE CREATIVE ARTS?

It could be sewing, weaving, leather work, graphic design or working with

clay. The school is looking for parents/grandparents carers or

community members who would like to help out in the art cave.

The art cave has a small, dedicated base of volunteers but we are

looking for more volunteers who are keen to be involved.

Presently, the art cave runs in class time on Thursdays, 9am to 1.30pm

and Fridays, 9am to 1pm. Stage 2 (Years 3 and 4) are on Thursdays

and Stage 3 (Years 5 and 6) are on Fridays.

Art cave is a lot of fun, students love it and so do

    the teachers.

We have considerable resources in the art cave

including a kiln. If you would like to be involved or

know someone else who may be keen you can

contact Jane on 0427 921 707 or simply come on

down to the art cave on a Thursday or Friday to

    check it out.
