    Match Reports Round 2

    6 Blue

It was another great team effort for our second game. There were some good goals from Conner and Ray-mond who dominated the forward position. The mid-field was controlled by Noah and Vaugn who also got into the goals. Finally a rock solid defensive effort by Freddy and Dion was great to see. Great game guys.

    6 Victory

It’s been an enjoyable start to the season for 6 Victo-ry! Gwyn, Yousef, Matty, Billy and Madison were all very enthusiastic to get out there and play. There were many goals scored by most of the team and also some great saves. It was great to see everyone hav-ing a great time with Billy and Matty wanting to keep playing even after we had finished! Well done 6 Vic-tory and looking forward to the rest of the season.

    6 Yellow

The Under 6s Yellow team played Greens on Satur-day. It was a great game with lots of 'almost' goals scored throughout the morning. The Yellow team was victorious with a score of 2-1. Players of the match were Jake and Lachlan. It was heartwarming to see the kids helping each other up when they stumbled! Terrific sportsmanship and teamwork! Keep up the good work boys and girls!

    8 White

An improved performance in round 2 unfortunately wasn't reflected on the scoreboard with the kids go-ing down 4-1. Kuvar was our star performer this week leading the way in attacking the ball, something that opposition teams seem a little better at than us at the moment. Kuvar's will to win the ball and attacking runs were great to see. Jade too continues to attack the ball well and was in everything. Jade was reward-ed for her continuous efforts with our only goal of the match. Another stand-out today was Charlie who defended strongly in the first half and played very well in goal in the second. Our first half goal keeper Jack also did well and continues to improve. Harry was also strong in defence and looked dangerous when he got an op-portunity to attack. Jacob looked great every time he had the ball with his speed and skill causing the oppo-sition continual head aches. Hayden was everywhere and showed some good skills until half time took the wind out of his sails. Ashwin and Ethan showed some good signs, getting more involved in the game while Daniel and Josh held their positions well and were very reliable. I hope to see the kids continue to improve next week and keep enjoying their football.

    9 Blue

Hope everyone enjoyed the Easter break and school holidays. Well only round 2 and the team are starting to really work well with each other. We had some really strong opposition this week, but the team showed a lot of improvement from the previous week and are starting to work really well as a team. It was a really good test for us and will only help us play stronger next time Thank you to Daniel and Tom for sharing the goal keeping this weekend they did an awesome job. Also a big thank you to the rest of the team for a great effort. The most important thing is that we played like a team and had lots of fun.

    Match Reports Round 2

Rnd 1 - 11/7 vs Guildford County A great start to the 2015 season! Wow, have our kids gained some amazing height in the off season. This came in very handy to our goal keepers, Aksharan and Rhys, who managed to reach and block numerous shots on goal. Just 5 snuck past them. As the fullback, Bianca used her long stride to cover the field with grace and speed. Rowan was on the other side diligently marking his player and success-fully blocking out his cheering squad. In the centre was Calvin and Kevin. They both went in confidently into each tackle and kept the ball forward. The centre forward was Arsh. He drew the defenders like flies, but still managed to get off some great pass-es. One pass went to Joel who almost scored. Anoth-er to Abinesh who scored our 2 fabulous goals of the match (lucky for us Ravi dragged himself out of his sick bed to bring him). Despite having no reserves, no respite and one inju-ry our players put in a solid performance. This is just the beginning!

    Rnd 2 - 11/7 vs Toongabbie

A goal bonanza! It was shaping up to be our day from the onset. We had a near full team, lots of lollies (thanks to Kevin & Calvin's mum) and an unexpected team mascot (Ravi's dog, who also got into the lollies!). Eyes sparkling in excitement, our team hit the field and just went for it. They quickly went into their posi-tions and held them with vigour. In fact, in the first half our defence was simply impenetrable.

Kevin was so solid in the middle Toongabbie was forced to change tactics and go around him. Unfortunately for Toongabbie they had Bianca and Rhys to deal with after that. Nothing got past those 2. Never have we seen a more bored and frustrated Aksharan in goals. He literally had nothing to do. With this sort of defence it wasn't long before our team created opportunities to score. Once Arsh start-ed sinking some goals there was no stopping us. He alone achieved a 4-goal haul! Feeling confident, Ro-wan had a shot at the goal and scored for the first time, then later did it again! Joel and Calvin went charging forward and only just missed the post. Abinesh showed his experience, again calm-ly putting away 2 well placed goals.

In the second half Tyler made a couple of great saves to keep the other team scoreless. He followed this up with some markedly improved clearance throws. Lojana did a great job of receiving them on the wing and to bring the ball forward. Let loose in the second half, Aksharan was unstoppa-ble. Letting off his frustration with multiple shots on goal (poor goalie) and scoring 3 times for a hat-trick! In all this excitement, both Bianca and Rhys (normally our defenders) also managed to bring the ball all the way forward for some agonisingly close shots on goal. A remarkable 11-0 triumph for this U11 team!

    Match Reports Round 2

    Under 11/2 vs North Rocks

After a promising performance gave the boys a strong home win over Baulkham Hills in Round One, this week the boys lost narrowly at North Rocks. Despite a strong effort to finish the game, the team was unable to overcome a half time deficit and lost 3-2 at North Rocks Reserve. After a promising start by Pendle Hill, the team's play started to drift. North Rocks began to threaten on the break and took full advantage of their limited attacking opportunities to lead 3-0 at half-time. The second half, though, saw a more energetic and determined Pendle Hill display. The boys played from the back with greater purpose and played some strong and skilful attacking football. After scoring two excellent goals and looking very threatening a number of times, Pendle Hill were un-lucky to finish the beaten team. There are plenty of positives heading into Round 3. Jeremy - Another strong game, Jeremy made some excellent saves to keep the team in the match. Owen - Defended strongly and skilfully, Owen is fitting well with his new teammates and a key con-tributor to starting teamwork from the back of the field. Cooper - Building on a good performance in Round One, Cooper was again an important link between defence and attack.

Matthew - Matty has burst into 2015, making some exciting attacking contributions and combining well with his teammates. Luke - A positive and energetic start to 2015, contrib-uting well in both the middle and attacking areas of the pitch. Richard - Performed strongly and was part of some, excellent attacking play, highlighted by a well-taken goal. Rory - A quietly determined display. Showed flashes of skill and on another day might have had a hat-trick. Hojean - Patient and skilful. Was part of much of the teams attacking play. Involved in both Tigers' goals. Jackson - Defended strongly and looked sharp coming forward down the flanks, especially in the second half. Cameron - Showed pace and skill leading the attack. Scored with one excellent header and went very close with another. Kalyan - absent due to school holidays. The team missed his defensive contribution. Jong - absent with injury. The team missed his contri-bution. Get well soon.

U12/2 Wht vs St Michaels Won 7-1

Another good win by the boys. It's good to see the team take on to the field what we have been prac-tising at training. All the boys passed the ball around well and played wide where possible. Occasionally we fell into the old habit of playing up the centre of the field and held the ball for one or two touches too long. Overall we'll done boys! Goals scored by Josh, Cooper, Akesh, Tom, James and two goals to Dom. Points to Cooper 3. Dom 2. James 1.

    Match Reports Round 2

    Under 12/2 Blk vs Rydalmere 4-1 W

Smiling faces saw us start the second game of the season well. Pendle Hill played a great game, attack-ing and defending well. All the skills we have been practicing in training are starting to pay off. Great passes to ensure we kept ball possession saw us lead-ing at half time. An amazing team effort by Tristan and Ben to score, and terrific goals by Sobhi, Roham and Ben lead us to a 4-1 victory. Tireless effort from Elli, Dominic, Georgia, Lachlan, Jarrod, Michael, Sher-win and Rohit ensured that the opposition had lim-ited opportunities. All in all a great team effort.

Under 12/4 vs St. Michaels 1-1 Draw

We started a lot better this week, and played with greater vision and purpose on our passes compared to last week. Everyone played their part in a great performance, including Tarun who had an injured foot and Kuvam who just recovered from a bad fever! Drashy showed our intent early, as he made a good win of the ball in a tough contest and got a pass for-ward to Aryan to test the defence of Baulkham Hills right away. They defended, but Bikram let them know that he was going to trouble them all match in a great performance as he took control and passed to David for a shot on goal. It was defended but we won a cor-ner to continue pressing our advantage. Thomas then came into play mid-field, with an excel-lent win under pressure from two players to keep us in a strong position. However we couldn’t convert our chances into an early goal, and they were soon testing us out with Yash making a save as keeper. They went close to scoring again but drastic cover defence from Tarun and a desperate clearing kick from Yash kept them scoreless. An exciting run from Chitvan down the right led to Thomas, Drashy and David combining to create an opportunity that was saved, but it showed how

our passes were getting through their defence and creating chances. Great shielding defence from Dylan slowed their next attack and enabled us to get bodies back and clear the danger. Michael then showed his enormous defensive skill to control the mid-field for us once more, before Kuvam made a hard run in de-fence to keep them out. It was all us then as we near-ly scored again, before working our way back up and this time Drashy slotted it in for an awesome goal! We nearly scored another as Bikram passed to David, then to Aryan who moved the ball forward then got it to Drashy who combined with Chitvan and it was only their desperate defence that stopped us from our second goal. They moved it forward fast, but we ap-plied enough pressure and Yash made a diving save to keep them out still at half-time. We attacked early in the second with David and Yash up the left side before Michael had a tough period keeping, but he did well stopping three shots in close succession. Yash then had a shot in a half that had a heap of chances from both sides! Dylan blocked a shot and made a desperate clearing kick before Thomas showed commitment to win the ball and get the ball to our forwards. Baulkham Hills then dominated the next five minutes, constantly testing our defence as we couldn’t get an attack going. They eventually scored to level up the score. They nearly had another from a corner, but awesome defence from Michael saved us. Great de-fensive control passing was displayed from Tarun, Kuvam and Bikram as they combined under intense pressure to clear the ball out of our danger zone. It must have demoralised them as we dominated the rest of the match. First Drashy and Yash combined for an on target shot before Chitvan and Aryan created half a chance before getting another shot in by Aryan but they were all saved. Dylan and Tarun combined in defence with Thomas making an attacking run to get the ball forward. We created another chance in the dying seconds but couldn’t get the pass out and had to finish with a draw. It was an exciting game with superb teamwork and we look forward to welcoming back Athavan and Ricky next week (and Mukund in mid-May!).

    Match Reports Round 2

U14/1 vs Baulkham Hills 1-2 Loss

Another game against our arch rivals Baulkho! This time it was on the big field at Ted Horwood. Plenty of great matches fought out between the 2 Clubs at this ground but unfortunately the pitch was in a horrible condition which meant playing quality soccer was going to be hard. Both teams tried their best with patches of good play but overall it was a struggle. Baulkho took the lead mid-way in the second half & Hoshie got us back level with a great effort to get pos-session & a strong shot from the edge of the box be-ing too good for the keeper. The second half saw some soccer that as a team we aren’t proud of. Our control & structure fell apart & we turned the ball over cheaply almost every time we had it. The boys need to play to the conditions and most importantly work hard when it is required. Overall not a bad performance we just need to keep improving & take our chances.

Round 1 U14/3 vs St. Michaels 4-2 Win

A good first up result for the team with a fairly domi-nant display against St Michaels. The team continued on form their good passing game that they showed in the two trials with some good ball work and communication amongst the team. Flynn threatened the whole day down the right hand side and ended with 2 good goals, Randy and Sam also scored one each. We do need to look to pass a bit earlier in some cases and also look more to space out wide where we had players in good position but could not seem to find them with the ball. Also need to look to win more of the one on one battles, and avoid turning over the ball too often.

Andrew was strong in midfield and got back and helped out in defence as we noticeably tired, Josh Boulden had a strong game in goals for us with some good saves. Too many unforgiveable turn overs from foul throws which needs to be worked on. Overall a strong start to the season, which we should be able to build on as combinations and match fitness improves. Round 2

U14/3 vs North Rocks 1-0 Win Our first home game at Binalong and we definitely won ugly. Whilst we were the dominant team we struggle to set the tempo of the game and find our intensity matching whatever our opposition is show-ing. Thomas and Ryan both had a half in goals and had a few touches but were not called into action too often which was a reflection of us being the stronger team, but once again we seemed to lack the intensity and willingness to get to the ball first and win the one on one contests, especially in the midfield. Flynn and Josh Ryder had plenty of space in front of them on the flanks but often we looked to move the ball infield or back into traffic and did not get the ball to the space as often as we could have. Whilst our ball movement is going ok, we do need to be a bit more unselfish in front of goals and having a few more shots. Jayden was a pillar of strength back in defence and was ably supported by Chris, Josh Boulden & Nick shutting down any attack by North Rocks.

We missed quite a few opportunities to score and left it a bit late to get our goal but it was a good team goal from a quick throw in, which Flynn flicked on nicely onto Thomas who put it across goals for Randy to score. Once again our match fitness was telling towards the later part of both halves but overall we were deserv-ing winners and could have ended with a few more goals if we took our chances. Whilst there is still a bit to work on, it is a strong start to the season with 2 wins from 2 which as a coach you cannot ask for much more than that. Good work boys. Points 3 Jayden, 2 Flynn, 1 Josh Boulden

U15/1 vs Castle Hill Wht 5-1 Win

Over the years Fred Caterson hasn't really been a happy hunting ground for us as we find it hard against both the Castle Hill United Black and White sides when we play them up here. We were scheduled to play on Field 1 which is a massive field and after an even start we got a free kick that was put away and at 1-0 up I thought, nice start here we go boys. The first goal should have lifted our confidence and got us to play some good football but it seemed to do the op-posite, we slackened off and allowed CHU to dictate play and after a mix up in defence and a great finish they got the game back to 1-1. After that we woke up and some great corner set pieces seen us go 3-1 up and the game was over from there. At 3-1 we slackened off a bit as well and then when our passing game meant that CH were too tired to keep going we got a couple of late goals to take the game 5-1.

It wasn't really a great performance football wise, we have played much better than that but it seems that our set pieces have really improved and we did step up a gear when we had to and our finishing was clini-cal. Its also rare to come away from Fred Caterson with a dominant win so well done on that as well.

U15/4 vs Winston Hills 2-2 Draw

It was our first home game for the season yet we only had 11 players available to us, meaning we would have to work hard and play well in order to secure a victory. The team started well, dominating possession and showing good ball movement and passes. Mar-cus, Anjan and Murtidha made some good early plays down the right wing, opening up the Winston Hills defensive line. Meanwhile on the other wing, Harri-son was tenacious in his tackling and ran himself to a standstill up and down the park. Shenal was chal-lenged this game after being asked to fill in at sweep-er position, with which he did a really great job after being confronted with a couple of quick strikers. At the front, no one could fault the work rate of Marcus and Luke who were always working in order to put pressure on the backline. Some skilful and precise movements from Aditya and Murtidha around the middle of the field ultimately led to a couple of quick goals and a 2-nill lead at the conclusion of the first half. The second half was all heart from the boys as they ran themselves to exhaustion, keeping pace with the opposition and forcing pressure in the middle of the park. Cameron pulled off some great saves to thwart the continued Winston Hills attack. A number of op-portunities were created but unfortunately the team had a number of near misses with many of their shots while some good goal keeping by the Winsto keeper ensure the score remained 2-0 with about 10 minutes remaining. Our defence held out well for the most part, only to concede two fast and unfortunate goals in the dying minutes, leading to a 2-2 draw. Overall it was a great effort from the team and hope-fully we will able to finish off strong next game.

The score line may sound like a whipping, but it was far from it. The boys put on an impressive perfor-mance against the Div 2 premiers from last year. In fact we were leading 2-1 at half-time and were cer-tainly in the hunt for an upset. Regents Park have some astonishing ball skills and I was half expecting a talent scout to tap someone on the shoulder after the game. But ours boys weren’t intimidated and what we lacked in ball control we made up for in tenacity to tackle hard and limit their chances. On the other hand, when we did get a few opportunities we banked our goals with clinical preci-sion. First of all, Josh Ab netted the ball from a corner when they made a defensive error. Secondly, Steve calmly slotted his chance after Tom nodded on a huge goal kick from Jack. Then in the second half, Steve took possession near their goalie and released the ball to Tom who banged it home from the edge of the box. Our season preparation has been pretty limited so it was great to see the boys combine together again. Archis is a welcome recruit to the team and proved his worth from the get-go. Tom has still got his silky skills despite giving us all a huge scare with a knee injury in the opening minutes. The old guns showed they haven’t forgotten how to do their stuff. Sam pulled out his big boot. Cam E met his match in their superstar but held his own to frustrate their forays. Cam Ak delivered the ball with accura-cy. Josh Ak found some mongrel in the off season and didn’t stand for any nonsense. Lavan settled into his work as he recovers from a long term inju-ry. Parth was as hungry as ever to get a juicy strike on the ball. But the man of match award goes to Jack for a thou-sand saves. Some saves were solid but some were simply sensational.

The award for the unluckiest goal conceded also goes to Jack for doing all the hard work to stop a ball dead on the goal line but then accidently knocking it across the line as he searched for where it had got to. Jack you scored one goal but saved many more. It was a good start to the season and we will only im-prove as we get some more reinforcements back next week and work on our fitness.

    Round 2 U17/2Wht vs Merrylands 2-4 Loss

This was a tough game. Merrylands applied plenty of pressure and outflanked us many a time but often their crosses sailed harmlessly across the face of goal. Jack still had a heap of work to do to tidy things up. His huge boot put the ball over the half way eve-ry time but we couldn’t penetrate any further. Our midfield got exposed too often and Merrylands passed it wide to take us on once again. The relent-less pressure took its toll and we conceded a couple of goals in the last 10 minutes of the first half. Early in the second half, Merrylands got pinged for a handball and Steve calmly slotted the penalty shot. We were back in the game. But before long they had a couple more goals after some fancy pass-ing along the edge of the box until they finally found a gap. In response, Tom passed a ball in from out wide and Steve unleashed a reflex shot which stunned eve-ryone by sneaking into the top corner of goals. Down 2-4, hanging in there but being outplayed, the game came to an early end when Sam went down with an ankle sprain and medical attention suddenly became more important than the actual score. There were still a few positives. Archis proved to be powerhouse of effort. Jack was excellent in goals. Josh Ab had a strong game and Cameron E did-n’t put a foot wrong. When we did string a couple of passes together with some nice one-twos we looked the goods, but the standard is definitely more de-manding in this division. Hang in there boys.

U17/2Blk vs Regents Pk 2-1 Win

It was another sunny day as the boys took on a tough challenge of regents park. We knew it was going to be a tough match but we were ready for it. I have en-couraged the boys to take ownership of the team and we decided to go with a 3-6-1. The match started well for us and some good passing and lead up work by Suren saw Ryan make a great run forward and a good pass back to Brad to slammed it home and we were up 1-0. The rest of the 1st half saw us under some pressure and some very physical tackles from both sides was making it a very good match. Just before halftime a defensive mix up saw Regents Park score and a few minutes later a missed penalty saw the halftime score for 1.1. The 2nd half saw the boys start well and some much improved passing saw Brad make a good run and launch what looked like a good cross but incredibly the ball kept going and in the top corner. This is one most memorable goals I have ever seen. So we led 2-1 with still 30 mins to go. The goal seemed to really lift our boys and while some things going on from the opposition was disappointing and not in the spirit of the game our boys kept strong to the club values and just played football. The passing and runs from our boys was the best we have seen so far this year with Suren leading the team very well. Great runs made by Nick, Brad, Moey, Brayden and Ryan. Our defence was rock solid with Scott, Tom and Lachlan doing an awesome job and Kartik in goal for his first full game. In the end we held on for a very gutsy 2-1 win. Special mention to Ben who took some back knocks during the game but kept going and was great. Hard to single out any boys because it was a great team effort and I was very pleased and very proud of the boys. Greg Dowden coach 17/2 black

U17/1 vs Baulkham Hills 1-0 Win

The 17/1’s looked more confident going onto the field on the weekend knowing their star Goal keeper Jake was back from injury. Playing on a wet and bumpy ground at the oppositions home turf made it hard to confidently pass let alone with accuracy in the Pendo boy’s game against Baulkham Hills on the weekend. Though we dominated in possession and had plenty of chances to score it wasn’t until the 20min that Ar-bin delivered the first blow to Baulko’s defenses putting the first and only points for the game on the board at 1-0.Baulkham Hills tried the long ball kick and chase tactic but was denied each time with our defenders chasing them down each time. Jake didn’t have to much of a tough first game only having to make one great save for the day as it was the team that kept the opposition in their own half for the rest of the time. Arbin showed terrific endur-ance with a “never give up” attitude earning a well deserved 3 points. Glenn used his great touch on the ball to make passes around the opposition which earned him 2 points ,and James who always puts 100% effort in and delivered some outstanding cross-es and defense on the day getting 1 point. Time to step it up now boys and show our next con-

    tender some real football.

    O45/1 vs Kellyville 2-5 Loss

The was an air of expectation at Bernie Mullane Re-serve (field 2) from around 2.00 pm onwards as the crowd was building up for the arrival of the mighty 45’s for their game against Kellyville at 3.00 pm. All the talk was as to who their favourite player was. The Marquee arrived to a loud cheer (well that’s what he says but in truth a goal had been scored on Field 1) and begun to organise his starting eleven. The Marquee was again in the team as an important substitute much to the joy of the team followers. The good news was that the King and Hamo were regis-tered so they can now play and provide some much needed additional help for the team. The singing of 500 miles was in full swing when the wee Scott Turn arrived to a roar just before the kick-off. Shirts were distributed, starting eleven announced and team tac-tics discussed. There was a loud sigh of disappoint-ment when crowd realised their hero, Turn, was not in the starting line-up and only on the bench. With Molly away, Toey not 100% and the Doc at Sparkles book signing we had three on the bench. Some final discussions from The Marquee and we were ready for action. A shake of hands with the opposition, the Governor loses the toss and we are to kick off, the referee blows his whistle and we are off and running. From the kick off we play like we didn’t want to be there’ most of the players were somewhere else and it showed in our terrible performance. If our lives had depended on playing well we all would have been dead. The opposition were running rings around us; our marking was slack, our passes non-existent or to the opposition, long balls to nobody and no communication at all. This was going to be a massacre unless we changed our attitude. Toey was acting as an Assistant Referee but spent more time talking to Geoff Elliot from Kellyville 45/2’s than actu-ally running the line.

On a bright note Taxi has a great run and his shot goes over the bar. Some slack marking and giving the ball away and they are through with a one-on-one with Anthony who makes himself wide and pulls off a great save. We survive but it would be only a matter of time before the flood gates opened. Perry decides to push over their number 10; he only has a left foot but we don’t mark him according and give him far too much space. Another nice shot from Taxi and a great ball from Taxi to Empty but alas it was too good for him to get hold of. They miss a sitter and moments later we don’t mark and Kellyville No. 10 is through with a simple one-on-one which he slots home for 1-0 to Kellyville. The Mullet gets pushed in the back and is knocked over by the Kellyville sweeper. The Mullet is not happy and has a few words to say which earns him a caution from the referee. Instead of us getting the free kick as awarded the referee somehow forgets and gives them it. Just not our day at all. The ball is ping ponging around the penalty area with an almost comical pin ball like action as we just can’t clear the ball. Kellyville, now the pin ball wizards, slot home another for 2-0. Slack marking again and the shot is pushed away by Anthony for a simple tap in. 3-0 to Kellyville and we are going nowhere fast and looking at a rout the way things are going. The Gov-ernor gets beat and with two on one they get another easy goal for 4-0. The Spiderman gives the ball away but is chasing as hard as he can to get it back; all to no avail. A hospi-tal ball to Spider from the Governor and they are through again as we lose the ball and they score for 5-0. This is one of our worse results ever and it isn’t even half time yet! The referee’s whistle for half time puts us out of our misery as we walk off, heads down and wondering what the hell happened. The Marquee is too dumb founded and speechless to be able to say anything so our able Vice Captain Perry gives the team a right old rollicking and gives it to all with no prisoners taken. Sad news has come through that one of our brothers in arms, a Dundas United 35/4’s play has died from a massive heart attack.

The Marquee feels remorse at such a terrible tragedy but reflects that his brother player was probably play-ing with others in another place with no pain now. A message of condolences to Dundas, his team mates and his family is sent later that night from the Mar-quee on behalf of the team. With ears ringing we start the second half with the appearance of Turn and this seems to make a differ-ence as we start to play better and are talking more and passing better. The crowd goes wild as Turn gets the ball as he goes on a “500 mile” run. The singing is getting louder every time he touches the ball. The ball comes over from Taxi to Empty and it hits there keeper comes straight out to Turn who makes no mis-take and puts it into the back of their net for 5-1. The crows goes wild and the Marquee nearly falls off the bench. We are playing much better now and we look like the team we all know – the Mighty 45’s. A great ball from Carbon to Taxi who puts it through to Turn who pivots and unfortunately, with the ball on his right foot, it goes softly to their keeper. Another great ball from Taxi to Empty who has a solid shot which unfor-tunately hits their post and goes harmlessly away for a goal kick. A defender handles as Empty goes for the ball and we get a penalty kick. Perry steps up and has no problems in putting the spot kick away for 5-2. Much better team play as we are getting into our stride. Shawky goes for a few runs and makes not only himself dizzy but the opposition too because they don’t know where he is going to end up. The Maestro is playing well and distributing some well-placed balls. Our ball play is getting much better but is sometimes spoilt by some players trying to be too cute with the little flicks which are not working and only result in the ball going to the opposition. The crowd are screaming for the Marquee to make an appearance but alas today he is not going to get a run.

Perhaps this is a good thing as he is a little in pain from some health issues. The game is drawing to a close and the opposition have run out of ideas and appear to just be going through the motions as they tire but we can’t get any more goals. We are on top now as the final whistle blows but we have run out of time and the legs are very tired. Whilst we lost 5-2 we convincingly won the second half 2-0 and were unlucky not to have scored a couple more. Still the way we played the first half the result was as bad as it seems on paper. The Marquee’s man of the match was Empty who never stopped trying all day and yelled to he could yell no more at his team mates to get their acts to-gether. Once again Taxi also never gave up with his tireless accurate passing and never stop chasing atti-tude made him an obvious second choice on the day. The Spider Man comes in third place mainly because he covered every blade of grass and fell into every hole on the park. As far as the “Stuff-Up Shirt” goes it is awarded to the whole team for their pretty woeful exhibition in the first half. We haven’t played that bad for years and it was pleasing that the second half was so much better. Thanks to our loyal groupies who turn up every week no matter what and I apologise for today’s terrible effort on behalf of the team management. Next week (Round 3) we play the gun hoe side North Rocks Black on Sunday 26th April, 2015 at the “Theatre of Dreams” (Binalong No. 3) with the Kick Off at 3.00 pm. Man of the Match Empty

    9 Girls vs Kellyville White

The girls had their first home game of the season against Kellyville White. The girls were a little slow to get moving early in the game but once they settled dominated play for the entire game with Elizabeth not being tested in goal at all in the first half. A couple of goal scoring opportuni-ties were taken in the first half by Tiana and Abby leaving us up 2-0 at the break. The second continued the same with the ball spend-ing most of the time in Kellyville's half. Kellyville had a some of chances but a couple of wayward shots and two good saves from Tiana in goal left them scoreless. The little Tigers on the other hand out away three more goals from , Amitija and Aria ended the game with a win 5-0.

    Round 1

16/2 Girls vs North Rocks 10-0 Win

This seasons U16 girls team is a real mix of experience with some players from last year’s U16s, some mov-ing up from U14s, players who have not played for a while, not at all or the in mixed team comp but hav-ing successfully completed 2 trial games the team has started to gel very well. Round 1 saw us taking on North Rocks on a sunny Sunday afternoon with 10 players. We started with no expectations but a lot of belief and the knowledge that each person would work hard for each other. Starting the game quickly and hitting North Rocks ear-ly, a great shot from Ruth on the edge of the box saw us take the lead. This was followed up by Brianna giv-ing us our second soon after and after many attempts Amy M managed to notch up our third. With classic passing and moving we continued to press and really didn’t give North Rocks chance to settle. Another 3 were added in a similar fashion to bring us to 6-0 at half time. A change at half time put Emily in goal after a great effort in the first half and Maddy H. on the wing. With a strong back 4 in Amy E, Gabby, Kathryn and Madi C, North Rocks had few chances to get close to our goal and any half chance were cleaned up quickly. This gave the midfield a great foundation to continue what was started in the first half, allowing Sammi, Ruth, Brianna and now Maddy H to create numerous opportunities for each other and Amy M. Even as they tired towards the end of the game they still worked hard for each other and managed to get another 4 goals, giving Ruth & Maddy H 1 a piece, Brianna getting 2 and Amy M finishing with 6. Irrespective of the score line, the way everyone worked and supported each other with 1 player down, that was the most pleasing thing and com-ments were made from the side line by spectators that they hadn’t even noticed one player was missing. A great way to start.

16/2 Girls vs Greystanes 7-0 Win

Round 2 saw the girls coming home to Binalong and for the first time including the trials, we managed to field a full team plus a sub. In a repeat of the first round we were able to strike quickly and get an early lead with what would turn out to be the first of another set of 6 for Amy M. A repeat of round one. It wasn’t all plain sailing but with improved communi-cation, something we had talked about during train-ing sessions, strong clearances from defence together with some composed passing through the midfield by Ruth, Brianna & Marianna and fast supporting runs on the 2 wings by Emily, Sammi and Lara, who came on from the bench, we continued to press our ad-vantage. Defensively we held any potential attack at bay with Amy E, Indigo, Gabby and Kathryn taking control of our goal. The result of all this hard work was that we were able to keep Greystanes under pressure for most of the first half and it gave Amy M chance to bag 5 of her 6 and Lara, in her first game with the team having been unable to play until now, getting the 6th before half -time. Starting the second half we changed keeper, with Hayley coming into the centre of defence and Gabby taking on the role of keeper. Both girls were appre-hensive about their keeping duties but did well to help give the team another clean sheet . Greystanes changed their formation in the second half to a more defensive one which in turn made it more difficult for us to break through. Eventually we did and Amy M. finally got her 6th.

From a defensive point of view the second half was a repeat of the first and at no time did I feel that we gave Greystanes any easy opportunities to get a goal. If anything, the back 4, Amy E, Hayley, Kathryn & Indi-go were starting be our first line of attack, having in-dividual runs forward and increase the chances for more goals. As the game continued, the girls showed more exam-ples of the passing work they had been doing at train-ing, added to the creative runs from Ruth, Lara and Marianna, it seemed like it would only be a matter of time before more goals came. Alas it wasn’t to be and despite the barrage of shots from all the girls in the midfield and forward positions, that’s they the game ended. All in all an awesome effort, great to watch and good

progress on round 1 but the best is yet to come.

19/1 Girls vs Greystanes 7-0 Win

First of all I would like to thank our team manager, Wayne for looking after the girls this week as I was away. Playing our first home game it was good to notch up our second big win of the season. The regular text message updates I was getting were all good news. I was told that all the girls played well and with goals to Gemma 5, Danielle 1 and Lore 1, it was a good day all round. Great effort girls.

O35 Ladies vs Rouse Hill 2-0 Win

This week was a little tougher than last week as the opposition kept the girls on their toes all night. After a long off season break the ladies are starting to play as a team and they all put in a great effort. With only one sub, which was reduced to no subs at all after Jane, one of our solid defenders went down with a dislocated knee. She was again having a strong game before her injury and we hope she is back very soon. Both Marty and Kerrie found the back of the net but had plenty of help from our midfield and also a great ball from Vanessa leading to one of our goals. Rose-lee and Tiff did well together in the middle of the park and it was good to see a little more talk between the girls this week. Our defence again was very strong and made Genevieve's job as keeper a little easi-er. We must be paying both Marty and Kerrie too much as both are now in Fiji celebrating their goals. Don't worry about us girls, we didn't want to come anyway. But we do hope you have fun. Another solid game by all and look forward to next week.

    Ladies Premier League

    vs Greystanes 1-2 Loss

Well today was extremely disappointing. There’s nothing wrong with getting beat when you give your-self every chance to get a victory but we didn't do that today. Being at Binalong Oval you would think would be eas-ier as we would get here on time and be ready to play in front of your own Clubs spectators and sponsors but we didn't show what we were capable of today and put in a very poor performance.

Trying to get a formation on the park with players turning up at kick off and then wondering why we get players injured when we don’t get a chance to warm up is not what Premier League football is all about. We had a nice wind behind us in the first half and be-cause we took 20 minutes to warm up we failed to utilise it. Going into half time at 1-1 was always going to be tough as we had the benefit of a two or three goal wind and that’s exactly as it panned out. Second half we tired and Greystanes got a late winner to take the game 2-1. While it is pretty hard to fault the effort of the girls as every player gave 100% when they were on the park, we can fault the lack of train-ing for some girls which is showing on the park and also the lack of match preparation which is also show-ing on the park. We can get away with it against the weaker sides but this years comp is a lot stronger and to make the same impact we did last season we really need to improve in a lot of areas, mainly off the park. Anyway its on to next week now and lets see if the girls can improve. PROUD SPONSORS OF OUR LADIES PREMIER LEAGUE

How many premier league ladies does it take to change a light bulb?

As the soccer season has begun again, I am reminded of the confusion I face when I look back at our team his-

tory. For those of you who may not know, many of the ladies premier league girls have played together since

we were 12 years old. Within this time we have spent together (for some over 10 years) there is only one

season which we have not played in a grand final. What is the key to our outrageous success? Carla.

We honestly can’t tell you. Thankfully, we have gotten much prettier and more put together since those days in under 12’s of striped

rainbow socks and goofy headbands. Unfortunately so, it seems that this is the only thing we have gotten better at. In this week’s arti-

cle, I will take you inside the cruel and hilarious world of ladies football. Please brace yourselves. It’s going to be a bumpy ride.

    Hair

Having hair is a serious issue when it comes to playing soccer that men often leave unnoticed. For years, as some of you

early cookies corner fans may recall, I have petitioned for the allowance of bobby pins in ladies soccer. Tiny pins of security,

these bad boys are your only hope if you don’t want to end up looking like Chewbacca mid-game. Depending on the season

and my hair style, I have spent countless hours on a Sunday morning trying to find a way in which my hair will actually stay

put. This involves tying it up and running laps up and down my hallway to determine if it is in fact, secure enough, to brave a

    soccer game.

    It gets catty

It gets catty on the field, it gets catty at training, it gets catty over face book, it gets catty. One of the qualities of men’s foot-

ball that I feel is often taken for granted is the ability men have to leave their issues on the field. You’ll even see boys after a

brawl still shaking hands at the end of the game. Though violence in girls’ soccer does not get particularly physical, the verbal

abuse can punch you in the gut harder than any kind of fist. And boy, do we know how to hold a grudge. That blonde haired

girl in under 12’s who chopped Angela’s legs right in front of goal? We still hate you. That chunky red head that shoved

Grace in the back for no good reason? We still hate you too. We judge you as a soccer player. We judge you as a human

being. On a more positive note, these grudges in girls’ soccer can make for some pretty intense games that are great fun to

watch. But we never, ever forget.

    Sundays

Girls soccer is always on Sundays. Sunday follows Saturday night. This is an issue. When you see us show up on a Sunday any

time between 11-4 you can guess we’ll be sweating tequila. We’ve had girls show up drunk, show up half dressed, not show

up at all and even had an incident when one girl had to run off the field mid-game to throw up. Keep it classy ladies. We

might not always show up on time, we may only begin with 8 on the field and we might not always show up at all, but there

is a mutual understanding of the struggle of these 90 minutes on a Sunday. Sometimes the struggle is simply getting to the

Us girls love a gossip. We love a catch up after we haven’t seen each other for an entire day between Sunday and Tuesday.

Unfortunately, this gossip often leads us to compromise our training schedule. It isn’t only gossip though. Sometimes it’s the

most ridiculous things. My kitchen rules, boob jobs, awful work customers at work, new cars, travelling, not travelling, mon-

ey, not having money. It goes beyond just training though. Our Facebook group chat (originally created for admin purposes)

has become more of a hotspot for drunken “I love youse” and poor quality photos of each other on the toilet. You name it,

    we’ve been there.

    We’ve got each other backs

Despite all of this, the best thing about ladies soccer is we’ve always got each other’s back. Our mutual hatred for other

teams, our sharing of water bottles, giving each other lifts, sharing anything from socks to sports bras – No matter the re-

sults, by the end of every season, we’ve got a sisterhood that even the Kardashian clan would be envious of.

So now to answer the age old question - how many premier league ladies would it take to change a lightbulb? The answer is it takes all

15 of us, just like winning a grand final. Although I suppose we’ll have to compromise with 9. Because in all honest, we’ll be lucky if we

get 9 to show up to change the lightbulb. That’s just the way the cookie crumbles.
