The objective of exercise two (the first row) of the planes, surfaces, & datums project was to create a land-scape using the various building to ground and levels relationships. The concepts for this group model were repeation, movement, separating, interlocking, & rising. The objective of exercise three (the second row) of the planes, surfaces, & datums project was to create a similar landscape that used elements from the prior landscape model. The elements that I took from the prior model were repeating bands. I folded the bands in a way that they would create a directional shadow when light was introduced into the environment.

The pavillion that I created for my group’s site was the bandshell. It is located at the end of the site so that it does not disturb the residential area. My design was based off of my light project which had bands that created a directional shadow. The sand paper in my model represents the area of the path which bikes are not allowed while the chipboard represents the general path.

For this project, I was assigned to recreate the city of Zobeide from Italo Calvino’s Invisible Cities. Zobeide was a city that was all white and the streets wound about themselves in a skein. The spaces and walls would rearrange themselves and in my opinion the city became a labrinyth. To create this narrative, I chose to use all-white materials to create rectangles that would be placed along a path which had no entry or exit.

My NOAA resarch facility is created on an axis. My research facility is initially split into two by the axis. One side of the research facility specializes in oceanic research while the other side specializes in atmospheric research. Everything become centralized around the conference room which is where both sides which discuss their research and have all their main discussions. The building is elevated off the boardwalk so that you are able to experience the axis while walking under it.
