The first TIE theatre company was in 1965 ‘Belgrade theatre’

It pioneered the theatre in education movement in 1960s and the theatre continues to work with disadvantaged young people and uses drama and acting as a tool to develop personal and social skills.

One of their most successful programs is called ‘Acting Out’

It takes young people who are struggling in the mainstream education system and gives them a chance to perform in dancing singing and acting in the theatre.

The program allows people to work for a Btec Level 2 extended Diploma in Performing arts, which is equivalent to 4 GCSEs

Although it started in Coventry the program has been successfully rolled out in Birmingham and Cardiff, and it has twice been help up as a model for best practice in the government white paper for 14-19 education

16 young people aged 16-25 were chosen to do this, and it also worked on stage craft, acting technique, voice work and movement

It was run in a professional way to give the young people the feel of a professional theatre

When getting in touch with any company, be if you trying to contact a Tie or outreach company, or you contacting an organization on behalf of a acting company, the first thing you need to do is find out WHO you need to contact.

When you have found out who to contact now you need to know how to contact them. It is best, unless you know otherwise, to make the initial contact formal.

Once you have begun corresponding you need to walk the fine line of staying in touch and being friendly, while also not bombarding them with emails, phone calls etc.

Making and maintaining good connections via liaison officers if vital for outreach and Tie theatre companies, as a bad name leads to less people wanting to work with you.
