March in like a lion, out like a lamb. We have heard that saying for most of our lives and associate it with the weather pattern that tends to prevail during the Spring of the year. Spring is a time of renewal. After all the rain has subsided we look forward to blossoms, sunshine and more time spent outdoors. This Spring promises not to disappoint at Trezevant with programs ranging from Spiritual to Sporting. The Calvary Episcopal Church Lent Preaching Series returns whereby we will be visiting on select days to enjoy the speakers and lunch at the Waffle Shop. The Great Courses continues with a study of Com-parative Religion. Seniors Helping Seniors returns, in conjunction with the Mid South Food Bank, to benefit the Wesley Communities. On March 17, St. Patrick’s Day, Genesis will be in the PAC for a Lunch and Learn explaining their donor program to benefit medical education. March Madness is back with NCAA Bracketology. And don't forget about Tastings of Irish drinks, out to dinner at Southern Social, Fine Dining, a visit to the Belz Asian & Judaic Museum, musical performances, movies featuring some of the latest releases such as JoJo Rabbit and Knives Out. There is so much to do at Trezevant. While making time to join in the activities, please set aside a time slot to participate in the Trezevant survey. The survey gives you the opportunity to express your opinion. This is a Resident Engagement Survey, conducted by outside consulting firm Holleran, and will be available on-line and in paper form. Distribution is scheduled for March 20th with a completion and on-line submittal or mail-in date of April 3rd. The survey, a measure of resident satisfaction and engagement, defines residents’ willingness to support and advance Trezevant as an organization. It will also determine where Trezevant stands according to national benchmarks for life care communities. This is a bi-annual survey and last conducted in 2018. Our completion rate, in 2018 for Independent Living, was 85% which is great but this year our goal is 100% participation. All results will be revealed to the community and will be avail-able by mid-May.

The gradual hearing loss that occurs as you age (presbycusis) is a common condition. An estimated one-quarter of Americans between the ages of 65 and 75 and around three-quarters of those older than 75 have some degree of hear-ing loss. Over time, the wear and tear on your ears contributes to hearing loss by damaging your inner ear. Doctors believe that heredity and chronic expo-sure to loud noises are the main factors that contribute to hearing loss. Other factors, such as ear wax blockage, can prevent your ears from conducting sounds as well as they should. Some medications, such as certain antibiotics and chemotherapy agents, can damage the inner ear or cause a temporary loss of hearing. In addition, very high doses of aspirin or NSAIDS (non-steroidal anti-inflammatories such as Motrin, Advil, Aleve) can cause tinnitus (ringing in the ears) or temporary loss of hearing.6 Symptoms of Hearing Loss to be aware of:1)Muffled quality of speech and other sounds2)Difficulty understanding words, especially against background noise or in a crowd of people3)Asking others to speak more slowly, clearly, or loudly4)Needing to turn up the volume of the television or radio5)Withdrawal from conversations6)Avoidance of some social settingsThe causes of hearing loss can’t always be reversed. However, you don’t have to live in a world of quieter, less distinct sounds. You and your physician or hear-ing specialist can take steps to improve what you hear.
