Dear friends,

As my interim ministry nears its completion, I am filled with gratitude for the privilege of knowing you and working with you these past 6 months. And my how this time has flown! I thank you for the warm welcome you have shown to me, and for your support of my ministry, my family and me.

Even though some of you may have had reservations about this idea of shared ministry, still you have moved forward in supporting it. You faithfully attended Lenten worship services, even traveling across Highway 36 to worship at your sister congregation during Holy Week. You have been faithful in “traveling” to attend our Wednesday evening Bible Studies. You supported our joint worship and picnic at St. John’s Retreat Center. And this month, you will be holding a joint Vacation Bible School. You are proving to yourselves and to your next pastor that you are committed to making this shared ministry real and vital and visible in our community.

You have supported the Shared Ministry Team who has worked tirelessly to make your shared ministry a reality. They have completed and both Councils have approved the Ministry Site Profile, the paper-work used in the call process for your next pastor. I am incredibly proud of your Shared Ministry Team members: St. James members Kim Wade, Darla Winkelmann and Phyllis Weiss; and St. Paul mem-bers Jo Johnson, Carey Kokemor and Sherry Mosley. Allow me to share a few sentences from the Ministry Site Profile that they have so carefully crafted:

Under the heading of Goals:

Exploring and implementing ways in which the shared ministry can synergistically strengthen both congregations, enabling them to be-come vital centers for ministry and mission in the community

Developing joint programs that will provide more opportunities for wor-ship, faith development and service than either congregation can accomplish alone.

Creating a greater sense of community between both congregations to enhance cooperation, mutual nurture, and support of the member-ship and the pastor.

LOOKING AHEAD TO OUR CHICKEN STEW RAFFLE

Our raffle at last year’s chicken stew was so successful we will be

making it an annual event. Start thinking what you would like to

contribute. Our gift cards were very popular, so we would like to

make them even bigger next year!

If you would like to make a donation, please make a note that it is

designated for the raffle. Watch for more info in future newsletters!

FROM OUR CHURCH COUNCIL

We did not have a Semi-Annual Congregational Meeting in June

because there wasn’t any items to cover. However, we will have a

budget report sometime in July to show how we are doing

financially.

TRASH TO TREASURE SALE

AT ST PAUL’S PHILLIPSBURG

JULY 20 AT 3:00PM TO 7:00PM

JULY 21 AT 9:00AM TO 2:00PM

Under the heading of Energy: We are excited to welcome a new rostered leader that will help us re-envision what it means to be a community of faith in this place and time. And finally under Purpose: We have come together in this shared ministry for the purposes of more effectively showing love to others, working together for the common good of others, reflecting God’s glory, fostering faith and tradition in families, and connecting to God in such a way to bring others to God. Wow! I sincerely hope and pray you are as impressed by their statements as I am! As you move forward in calling your new pastor, I am certain you will show him or her the same welcom-ing and open attitude that you have shown to me. I will continue to pray for you as you continue this faithful journey together!

Blessings to you, Pastor Pat

Join us Sundays for worship, 9:00AM St. Paul’s Phillipsburg; 10:30AM St. James New Wehdem

WORSHIP IN JULY July 1: Patriotic Service Sermon Title: Freedom! We will explore what it means to be free, not only as Americans but also as Christians. Join us as we sing and pray and ask God’s blessings on our country.

July 8 Sermon text: 2 Corinthians 12:2-10 God’s Grace is Sufficient Paul struggled with a “thorn in the flesh” that caused him many problems. Three times he asked God to take it from him, but God responded, “My grace is sufficient.” The same is true for us. No matter what we endure, God’s grace is with us and for us!

July 15 Sermon text: Luke 15:1-10 Lost and Found and the King-dom of God As we kick off our joint VBS, I will be preaching on the same texts that the children will hear for their first lesson – 2 parables about the lost coin and the lost sheep. I think we would all be relieved to know that Jesus would leave the 99 sheep to search for us if we are lost, but I wonder how we feel to be part of the 99 when Jesus goes searching for the lost one?

July 22 Sermon text: Mark 2:13-22 New Wine For my final sermon with you we will talk about the new wine that Christ brings. Jesus warns about putting new wine into old wine-skins because the skins will burst and the wine will be lost. Perhaps we can find some helpful words of encouragement as you move forward with the shared ministry and calling your new pastor.
