‘Wet’ plate brakes generate torquethrough shearing of the oil layer, withnegligible lining wear, and are thereforeideal for the low maintenancerequirements of sub-sea installations.Similar ‘dry’ units are available, includingwater-cooled versions for high-energystop applications.
Custom designed electro-hydraulicpower packs can be supplied toenable actuation and control ofspring-applied (or direct acting)hydraulic brakes. The systems may be configured to provide controlleddeceleration, without inducingexcessive shock loads in thedrivetrain, in the event of power loss.
