Community supportstrong in Glens Falls
The Glens Falls youth football pr o-gram, backed for 15 years by theGlens Falls Police Athletic
League, has enjoyed a pr oud traditionwith the backing of the Glens Falls PoliceDepartment and local businessman BobLefebvre.
"Without the community support likewe have, many of these kids would notknow the joy and camaraderie the gameof football instills," Coach Bob Rizzosaid.
In promoting thesport of footballforyouth, the GlensFallsleague hasfocusedtheir philoso-phy on thethree Fs: funfootball, familyand fundamen-tals, according toRizzo.
For 2011, GlensFalls has fieldedone single teamrather than their tra-ditional two — due toshrinking enrollment. The coaching staff ofBob Rizzo, ChipLefebvre, Tom Center,Brian George, RobManning and MontyMontgomery have adjustedto mentoring a far lar gersquad in their work teachingthe fundamentals and athleticskills.
The outcome has been favor-able, considering the team's 2011 recordof 5-0 with the season nearly complete. The team's core group of veterans hasfueled the team's remarkable perform-ance, with Tailback Aaron Sampson astandout on offense and Defensive TackleTeddrick May the top performer ondefense, Rizzo said.
Ft. Edward: nurturing excellenceThe Fort Edward football program also
enjoys a proud, successful tradition.Within four years of its founding in 2004,both their junior and senior teams
achieved 2007 division championships. In2008, the Fort Edward program thenjoined the Northern Adirondack YouthFootball League, and the Junior Fortswon a championship with a 6-1 seasonrecord, while the senior team won theleague finished second at 6-1. The follow-ing year, this senior youth team won theleague championship, finishing theseason at 7-0. In 2009, theSeniors repeatedwith an
unde-feated cham-
pionship, and in 2010,the Juniors achieved the same
feat.Coach David Regner noted that the
founding 2004 players are now the lead-ers of the team at Fort Edwar d High thatis now dominating headlines, racking upvictories, and thrilling fans.
The Senior Flying Forts ar e coached byDavid Regner, Eric Smatko, Jef f Etu, JeffStone and Desmond Lyons.
Cortez Pritchett, head coach of theJunior Forts team, and his assistant CoachSmith, note their squad is fortunate tohave strong support from parents thatinclude Sean Hogan, Shawn Rivers, RayDelisle and Chuck Bump.
Further north, Northern AdirondackYouth Football League members
Whitehall and Ticonderoga both havestrong programs with proud traditions.
At the high school level, the footballprogram has for decades won covetedchampionships, while their players haveexhibited a high degree of sportsmanship.
Recognizing the critical rolethat youth leagues serve, citi-zens of both communitieshave traditionally providedstrong support for theiryouth teams, whether infundraising, game atten-dance, or parents back-ing up the coaches intheir work instillingadmirable values inthe players.
Corinth —home of
championsFor many
decades,Corinth hasproducedstrong, ablefootballplayersthat havethe deter-minationand ath-leti-cism
onewould expect
from a mill town. The Corinth youth football pr o-
gram reflects this tradition, and it is cele-brating its 16th season this year.
One of Corinth’s long-time coaches,Dan Lescault, co-founded the NorthernAdirondack Youth Football League in2000 along with Terry Bruno of LakeGeorge. In 2011, Lescault continues toserve the league as Acting President.
In 2010, Corinth’s Senior team won theleague championship after amassing a 6-1 record, and its Junior team was r unner-up with a 4-2-1 r ecord.
The Senior team championships extendback to 2002 — when they had an 8-0record and 2008, when they earned a 7-0record. Also, the Seniors won the r unner-up trophy in 2004, 2006 and 2007.
The Junior team was the undefeatedchampion in 2005 and League co-champi-on in 2008.

8 - Pee Wee Football Fall 2012
Lake George enjoysproud gridiron tradition
For over a generation, Lake Geor geHigh School has enjoyed a dominant foot-ball team — and many sports enthusiastsgive much of the cr edit to the local youthfootball program which has traditionallydeveloped skills at a young age.
With this in mind, the school's 2019football team is likely to be a power-house. With the 2011 season three-quar-ters complete in early October, the LakeGeorge youth football's third and fourthgrade team had a 4-0 r ecord. The team'sstrength is the defense, which has beenallowing their opponents an average ofless than 10 points per game. The of fense, however, also has been pr oductive, scor-ing an average of 25 points per game.
Coach Ted Bearor noted that both theoffensive backfield and the line featur eleadership among the fourth graders, which has enabled all the players to focuson developing fundamental skills andsharpen some of the mor e difficult tasksasked of them.
"Our team is hard working and has a'can do' mentality," Bearor said, notingthe players work hard and share a goodbond. Among those players are the sonsof the coaching staff, which includesJames McCabe, Ted Bearor, BryanHoolihan, Jeremy Duers and Phil Mann.
The Lake George Senior Youth Footballteam, composed of fifth and sixthgraders, is also very competitive this sea-son. The squad is r unning an I-formationoffense interspersed with a four -receiverspread offense from shotgun — and theresult has been very favorable. TheSenior coaching staff includes TonyAbrantes, Chris Collins, Rich Conte, andTodd Paton. The Warriors’ home gamesare played at Edge Field of f TransferRoad.
The Senior youth squad focuses onplaying fundamental football withemphasis on blocking, tackling, r unningand throwing the ball. Coaches empha-size sportsmanship, learning the r ules, and perseverance. The program has expe-rienced excellent attendance by the play-ers, which bears witness to the players’enthusiasm, dedication and love of thesport, coach Tony Abrantes said.
Burghers’ program is flourishingThe Warrensburg youth football league
was founded years after Lake Geor ge's.But it didn't take long for the pr ogram
—under the guidance of volunteer coach-es including Scott Tenant, Rob Nelson,Mike Turner, Mike Irish, Al Perrone andmany others -- to nurtur e a tradition ofdedication to the game and to annually
develop dozens ofenthusiasticyoungsters intoskilled, promisingathletes.
Coach GaryBaker notes thatthe Warrensburgyouth football pro-gram has grownthrough the years, and now fieldsboth a junior andsenior team of 25to 30 youngsters.
A key element tothe growth of theprogram has beencommunity sup-port, whether it'sthe ongoing devel-opment of a townfootball field, thework of theWarrensburg YouthFootball BoosterClub and the gen-erosity of the pub-lic— that hasallowed purchaseof new helmets, practice equipment anduniforms.
Baker said that all par ents and youthsports fans, whether in Warrensburg orthe other area communities, deservepraise for supporting a football leaguethat develops vital character traits inyouth: teamwork, dedication and high
standards of conduct — attributes thatwill serve them well thr oughout theirlives.
"The kids are our future," he said. "Asour doctors, lawyers and politicians inthe years to come, these childr en will bethe ones leading us into the next century ."
