Pitcher Jesse Bailey, who will be a senior for the Mount Marty baseball team next season, is from Eau Claire, Wisc. “I heard his name before, growing up playing ball out in Wisconsin,” Bailey said of Veith. “But I can see he plays the game hard and is fun to be around. We didn’t know what to expect from, but he’s come through big time.” For the summer, Veith is stay- ing on a ranch with a husband and wife nearly 10 miles from Yankton, in Nebraska. Every morning during the week, he drives to his internship, where he helps the Wastewater Treatment Plant with operational duties and lab work. Veith will not leave Yankton until the end of August, meaning he will be available for the Tappers in the South Dakota State Class A Amateur Tournament. And for his teammates, that’s just fine. “He knows what college base- ball is all about, so he fits in well that way,” Bailey said. “He knows the intensity, but he still jokes around with all of us.” Scotland’s Name Change Fans at any Scotland amateur game this summer will notice something quite different. Not only have the traditional black jerseys been replaced with green and silver, the name no longer says “Highlanders.” Instead, the jerseys read “Stingers.” And according to manager Bryan Fuks, there’s a good rea- son for the change. “I figured this year, we had such an influx of young players coming in that we needed to get away from being in high school,” Fuks said, referring to the ama- teur team previously sharing a name with Scotland High School. “This is amateurs; we’re our own team.” In a league that already fea- tures the Mad Frogs, Bluejays, Bluebirds, Cardinals, Broncs, Expos and Tappers, Scotland needed a change before the 2010 season started, according to Fuks. “Everybody else has their own little mascot, so I figured we needed to join the party,” he said. “So I came up with the Stingers, and the guys seemed to really like it.” Fuks also joked that because the Menno Mad Frogs refer to their home field as ‘The Pond,’ perhaps Scotland could come up with a nickname of its own. “I’m thinking something like the ‘Hornets Nest,’” he said. Still, in his stint this summerin Yankton, Veith is not the onlyWisconsin native playing for theTappers. Pitcher Jesse Bailey, who will be a senior for theMount Marty baseball team nextseason, is from Eau Claire, Wisc.

“I heard his name before, growing up playing ball out inWisconsin,” Bailey said of Veith.“But I can see he plays the gamehard and is fun to be around. Wedidn’t know what to expect from, but he’s come through big time.”

For the summer, Veith is stay-ing on a ranch with a husbandand wife nearly 10 miles fromYankton, in Nebraska. Everymorning during the week, hedrives to his internship, wherehe helps the WastewaterTreatment Plant with operational

duties and lab work.Veith will not leave Yankton

until the end of August, meaninghe will be available for theTappers in the South DakotaState Class A AmateurTournament.

And for his teammates, that’sjust fine.

“He knows what college base-ball is all about, so he fits in wellthat way,” Bailey said. “He knowsthe intensity, but he still jokesaround with all of us.”

Scotland’s Name ChangeFans at any Scotland amateur

game this summer will noticesomething quite different.

Not only have the traditionalblack jerseys been replaced withgreen and silver, the name nolonger says “Highlanders.”Instead, the jerseys read“Stingers.”

And according to managerBryan Fuks, there’s a good rea-son for the change.

“I figured this year, we hadsuch an influx of young playerscoming in that we needed to getaway from being in high school,”Fuks said, referring to the ama-teur team previously sharing aname with Scotland High School.

“This is amateurs; we’re ourown team.”

In a league that already fea-tures the Mad Frogs, Bluejays,Bluebirds, Cardinals, Broncs,Expos and Tappers, Scotlandneeded a change before the 2010season started, according toFuks.

“Everybody else has theirown little mascot, so I figured weneeded to join the party,” hesaid. “So I came up with theStingers, and the guys seemed toreally like it.”

Fuks also joked that becausethe Menno Mad Frogs refer totheir home field as ‘The Pond,’perhaps Scotland could come upwith a nickname of its own.

“I’m thinking something likethe ‘Hornets Nest,’” he said.
