Interviews
It is believed that Launch-
ing Place is named after the
spot on the Yarra River
where the logs (freshly cut
down in the valley) were
floated down the river to
be milled in Melbourne.
That is, the logs were
"launched" at this place
along the Yarra River.
Buildings and Grounds
Over the holidays a great deal of work was completed around the school. This is part of our ongoing commitment to update, improve and beautify our school. Works included: mud rock ‘amphitheatre’ seating area near the basketball court;
school boundary fence on Carter Street; playground audit; carpet in 2 offices in the admin building and refurbishment of the boy’s toilets in the Hex building – painting to be completed. Our environmental crew have been busy with the finishing touches.

School Captain’s Report
Prep: We had a great holiday and lots of fun over Easter, but are happy to be
back at school. We have begun new ‘playing to learn’ activities. This week we
have been learning about the letter Nn. In Maths we have started groups and are
practicing counting and writing the numbers we know. We have been learning
about the days of the week. This term’s Integrated Studies topic is about toys so we watched the movie Toy Story.
3/4: We had a great first week back. In Math’s groups we focused on time and in our classes we looked at chance.
During our reading workshop we learnt to check for understanding during reading and we made predictions. We
really enjoyed reading persuasive texts and made a list of things we want. Our Integrated Studies topic this term
is ‘We Built This City’.
5/6: We had a wonderful break over the holidays. We returned happy and settled. Even though it was a short
week we were very busy. In Café, we looked at using different voices depending on what we were reading. In
writing, we reviewed using punctuation and paragraphs. In Maths, we focused on problem solving. We also
solved problems using inverse operations. We looked at transformations and how many degrees a shape has
turned and also using the key to accurately read a pictograph. We enjoyed our high school visit on Friday.
Principal: Second term started smoothly. It was a short week and everyone got back into the school routine
quickly. We had school photos taken on Friday. The weather wasn’t kind so photos had to take place in the GP
room. Aerobics practices are going well, with only a few weeks until the first competition for the year.
A Special Mother’s Day Event
We would like to invite all of our mums to a
special afternoon tea on Monday 15th May
at 2.30 in the GP room. After tea/ coffee
and cake you are welcome to visit your
child’s classroom. Notices were sent home yesterday.
Our school captains and house
captains do a great job of running
assembly on Monday mornings.

Grade 1/2 This term in Integrated Studies, the Grade 1/2s are
completing the unit ‘From Farm to Table’. We are
excited to learn about different types of farms and how
they operate. We have talked about what we already
know about farms and developed a range of questions
about what we want to learn. We looked at the life
cycle of a chicken and created a life cycle diagram.
