BEADS AND CARDS

The Beads and Cards group has had an awesome May! We played with all sorts of techniques and inks for our cards - AND.... We did our first (annual?) bus trip, up to Nanaimo with a stop in Chemanius and then a final stop in Duncan. It was a blast !!! (group photo from Nanaimo store) June is upon us, and what are we doing, you ask. Well, if I calculated this right, as of June 1st there are only 207 days til Christmas !! With the craft fair in November we want to be ready with lots of cards and beading products to sell. In the meantime, every Tuesday morning from 9 - 11 am, we are open for business in Room 201 if you need a card for any occasion. Only $4 each !! You can't beat that. Plus we have lots of beaded jewelry for a nice present for that 'special' someone !!! Thats it for now - enjoy the warm weather !! TTFN Darlene Wright Beads and Cards group

INVENTORY

We are having an inventory count on Saturday, June 29th. This is the first official date of summer shutdown; we have approval from Westshore Parks & Rec for this. If you have already counted your classes assets, please make sure I have the list before that date. We need volunteers to assist with the rest of the counts. We don’t want to do what you have already counted. Volunteers will be provided with refreshments! June 29, 2019, starting 9:00 am, inventory count. Sign-up sheet will be on the bulletin board in the hall. Your last opportunity to help before shutdown. (The ferries and the highways will be clogged anyway, may as well stay and help).

QUILTING WITH MARILYN It has been a busy year for the Quilting with Marilyn Group. We have done items for the Christmas sale, for Emergency Service groups and Animal Care and/or Rescue Organizations and we have also put our knitting and crochet skills to work to make needed items for babies in our hospitals. We have included in our work breast cancer pillows, Welcome Quilt, Quilts for Quilts of Valour and other various items for Annie’s Closet and local agencies. We will end our year with a 3-day on site retreat at the end of June, where we quilt and do games like Strip Poker (fabric strips that is), eat, sew some more and then do it all over again from 9 to 9 at the Centre and then go home to sleep. Over the summer months the Summer Stitchers will be meeting in 202 on Monday and Wednesdays and in September we start again on the 9th and 11th and 12th. Hope everyone has an enjoyable summer and we look forward to starting up again in September. E. Marilyn Fuller “Old Quilters never die, they just go to pieces!”

WHAT’S IN A NAME?

Hello all you creative members out there! Your assistance is required. You are all no doubt aware of the area in our Centre that puts out all the amazingly tasty food items we enjoy at coffee and lunch time, not to mention dinners, appy functions, etc. I refer, of course, to the “kitchen”.

It has been close to fifty years of wonderful service now, and it’s time we honoured it with a real name!

I have made several attempts. My first thought was “THE BOUNTIFUL AND MAGNIFICENT GARDEN OF WONDEROUS AND PLENTIFUL GASTRONOMIC DAILY DELIGHTS”. This was considered a tad wordy. I then tried something with a historical perspective, “TYPHOID MARY’S EATS”. Did not go over well. My last inspiration was colour-themed per the walls, “THE GREY CAFÉ”. Sadly, this was rather badly misinterpreted. Apparently I need help.

Please apply your creative juices to this issue and drop off your suggestions in the Suggestion Box in the hall. I will collect them, and put together a team of highly skilled experts to choose the best submission by the end of June!

Consider if you will, the bragging rights that could be yours if your suggestion is accepted! Tom Colgrave Director (Kitchen, Bar, Entertainment) “Wag more, Bark less!”
