VOLUNTEER NEEDED TO PROVIDE TRACTOR/WAGON FOR PARADE Lumen Christi Catholic School has traditionally participated in the Family Fun Before the Fourth Parade. This year the parade will be on June 30th at 10:00am. We are in need of a volunteer with a tractor and hay wagon to help us show off our school spirit! If you are able to help, please contact Laura Rowe at 512-8996 or [email protected]. Thank you very much! A HEARTFELT THANK YOU On behalf on all the students, staff and parents, a heartfelt thank you is in order for the following businesses that helped to make Rainbow Olympics a huge success! For the countless year in a row, Tony Gahn Jr, and The Gahn Meat Company, very generously donated all of the hot dogs and buns that fed over 400 students and staff. In addition, Cedar Crest Ice Cream of Cedarburg, donated a portion of the ice cream sandwiches. Steve and Jennifer Wirth and Jimmy Johns Gourmet Sandwiches, graciously donated lunch to feed all of our parent volunteers. Many thanks to these businesses, as well as all of our parent volunteers. The day would not have been possible without their kindness and generosity! BASKETBALL UNIFORMS One last call for all students to return any basketball uniforms that have not been turned in yet. Please place clean uniforms in a plastic bag and place in the large bin outside the main office. Thank you! “CHRISTMAS IN JUNE” KEYBOARD RECITALS You are cordially invited to attend the 4th and 5th grades keyboard recitals. They will be held on Monday, June 4th in the Matthew/Mark room of the church. 4S performs from 8:25 – 9:05 a.m., 4A performs from 9:10 – 9:50 a.m., 5B plays from 9:55 a.m. – 10:35 a.m., and 5Q plays from 1:40 – 2:18 p.m. Come and enjoy hearing our students perform piano/keyboard solos and ensembles. NEWCOMERS MEMBERS NEEDED The Newcomers committee is looking for new members. There are 2 different roles that you may serve in as a member of this committee and both are very fun AND easy, with a minimal time commitment. The first is a Buddy Family, and in this role you serve as a mentor to a new family, get to know them, and serve as a resource if they have questions. You would be paired with a new family that has similar age kids. This is an excellent role for those families that are relatively new to Lumen Christi themselves. The second role is an Ambassador and in this role you give tours during the Open House (with a cheat sheet, of course!) and help to host prospective family events. This is a great role for the more "seasoned" parents who have a lot to share about their experience at Lumen Christi. We hope you will contact our Newcomers committee chair, Michelle Gruenwald at [email protected] and volunteer to help out in this very important area of service. Thank you!! DOES YOUR SCHOOL GROUP WANT TO HAVE A FUNDRAISER NEXT YEAR? If your school group hopes to have a bake sale, cookie sale, collection for the needy, or any other kind of fundraiser next year, please fill out a Fundraiser Request form which can be found on the parish website under “Stewardship”. ALL school group fundraiser requests must be submitted to Mrs. Fyfe for approval before the requests can be sent to the Stewardship Committee by June 4. Thank you! VOLUNTEER TO BE A PART OF SCHOOL COUNCIL School Council is looking for several new members for the 2012-2013 school year. If you have a passion for our school and guiding it to be the best it can be, then please consider volunteering your talents and time to our School Council. School Council consults on a variety of topics including curriculum, faith formation, marketing, budget, communications, and technology. The time commitment is one monthly evening meeting, plus offline sub-committee work. If you'd like more information or are interested, please contact a e member of the School Council or Joe Cesarz at [email protected]. Please respond by June 1st.

Submit In-Brief info to Cindy King (262)-242-7965 E-Mail: [email protected] Deadline: MONDAYS by 8:00 a.m. Please check our Parish School website at http://www.lumenchristiparish.org/school/ for more comprehensive information

Dear fifth-grade parents, As students transition between grade levels during their educational journeys, parents and students naturally want to know about the new grade before arriving to school on the first day. For this reason, Lumen Christi will conduct a 6th Grade Orientation for parents Monday, June 4th at 6:oo pm in the middle school science lab. This Orientation is an opportunity for parents to get an overview of the schedule, curriculum, and some practices and protocols that are unique to middle school.

Sixth grade students are invited to a special orientation program at Lumen Christi on Monday, August 27, 2012 from 8:10 am – 11:00 am. Students will be able to ride the bus to and from school that morning, if they chose. The purposes of the student orientation are:

• To practice what to do when students first arrive at school • To find their locker and get it set up/organized • To walk through their daily schedule • To learn the general rules of middle school • To meet their teachers • To learn middle school procedures and expectations

It is my sincere hope that all parents and students are able to attend the designated orientation session so our students get off to the best possible start next year. I look forward to working with you and your child(ren) throughout the 2012-13 school year.

God Bless, Kelly Fyfe Principal

Summer Band Information To Parents of current and future band students: Summer band is an excellent way for students to continue learning and growing as young musicians. Please consider fitting music into your child’s schedule. It is my hope that current band members will continue to take lessons this summer in order to maintain the skills they have worked so hard to develop this school year. Third grade students that think they might like to learn a band instrument in fourth grade are encouraged to take lessons this summer in order to learn the basics of their chosen instrument prior to fourth grade. A little head start for the new school year is helpful. Call Mr. Murphy with any questions. Any student in 4th through 8th grade that would like to learn an instrument is encouraged to take lessons this summer. It is never too late to learn an instrument and to be part of the school band. Current students are encouraged to continue with lessons during the summer.
