Breakfast - New Associate DevelopmentKeelan Lewis, DVM, Salt Creek Veterinary HospitalFriday, February 8 | 7:30 am - 8:45 amThe veterinary profession is becoming specialized and sectioned, leaving the concept of mixed animal practice in question. At the same time technology and even medications are becoming more available to our clients. Rural mixed animal practice is at a precipice. We are facing a perception of decreased value of a veterinary relationship with clients and a stereotype amongst veterinary
students that rural mixed practice is dying. Dr. Lewis will discuss how her group of practices have designed a strategy to overcome these obstacles and raise new associates to fill the role.
Dr. Keelan Lewis grew up on a century old family farm in Bowie, Texas where her father was a rural mixed animal practitioner. She received her bachelor’s degree at Texas A&M University in Animal Science and Rangeland Management in 2007 and attended VMRCVM for her doctorate graduating in 2001. Dr Lewis currently lives in Olney, Texas where she lives with her husband and two sons. Since veterinary school Dr. Lewis has purchased three rural mixed animal practices and believes firmly that this sector of veterinary medicine is thriving and alive.

Christian Veterinary Mission (CVM) Prayer Breakfast Dr. Bill and Heidi Janecke and Dr. Jenny AldridgeFriday, February 8 | 7:30 am – 8:45 am
Dr. Bill and Heidi Janecke served with CVM in Bolivia for nearly 17 years. In Bolivia, Bill worked with indigenous communities training animal health workers, families and community leaders to improve livestock health. Heidi was a founding board member and is still active in fundraising for the Talita Cumi Children’s Home, which is home to about 30 abandoned, abused or orphaned children ranging in age from 6 to 16.
Dr. Jenny Aldridge traveled this summer with a short-term CVM group to the Navajo People in Arizona/New Mexico. The team of veterinarians and veterinary students worked to help with the caseload in both large and small animal practice and encourage the resident staff and their clients at three different clinics.
CVM is an organization within our profession dedicated to serving people’s livestock needs worldwide and strengthening the local church. Currently about 40 veterinarians and their families are serving long term around the world. Many vets are also serving short term.
