From The Sale Committee

e want to welcome you to the Genetic Edge XIII Sale and especially thank our past customersand our members. Our 18th Genetic Edge sale will be offering both Red and Black Brangus.

In this year’s sale you have the opportunity to buy some of the best genetics in Brangus from theseoutstanding Breeders. Many of our consignors have put some of their best genetics in this year’soffering to show the high quality of cattle they are raising in their program. Many of these cattlecome to you right from the breeders show string and as you well know they only put their best in theshow string.

One of the Special Offerings in the Genetic Edge Sale is we always have the Grand Champion andReserve Grand Champion Bull and Female from the Houston Livestock Show offered as Lot 1 in theSale. Lot 1, Own a Champion, is left up to the owner of the champion, but in the past some have soldan interest in the bulls, either a semen interest or breeding share, and on the female side a flush orembryo interest in the champion females. We believe this gives the serious breeder the opportunityto own some of the best genetics in Red Brangus and Black Brangus. Breeders trying to improveyour herd, or build a herd should look closely at Lot 1. Lot 1 also gives our foreign customers anopportunity to buy a semen interest in the Champions, or be able to possibly buy an embryo interestor flush. The success of our Breeders has always been one of our goals.

Our Sale Committee is very excited this year to bring you an outstanding offering. We have had sev-eral lots from past sales go on to win Grand and Reserve Champions and even win the prestigiousShow Heifer of the Year award. Plan to be at the Genetic Edge Sale and take full advantage of thisopportunity to build a herd from the selection of these top genetics.

We will also be televising our entire sale on DVAuction so breeders from around the world can partic-ipate if they are unable to attend. Go to www.DVAuction.com to create an account and request abuyer’s number. If you want to register for DVAuction, make sure to go online a couple days beforethe sale.

With these cattle we are confident you can improve your herd and move your program forward. Welook forward to seeing you at the sale and if we can answer any questions, please call.

Our Sale Committee is comprised of Don Cox, Nancy Buffaloe, Rhumina Stofa, John Liechty andCraig Stovall.

This is your opportunity to propel your breeding program and ranch to the top of the breed. I once heard one of the most suc-cessful cattle breeders say, “If I didn’t raise the Champion, I would buy it.” This breeder never had any problem staying at thetop of the breed or selling his animals for much more than the other breeders. You cannot only use the genetics to put yourprogram at the top, but as a new owner of a champion you can use it to help you market your ranch and breeding program.

Don’t pass up the opportunity to OWN A CHAMPION in the 2013 Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo.

When it came time to pick a really great heifer for the sale, we couldn't decide between these two future donors. These heifers have everything you could ever wantin a top female, possessing the best genetics Red Brangus has to offer. 101Z, sired by Legacy, is a full sister to BKC Superman 101U. 204Z is sired by Superman andout of one of our top donors 204R3. 204R3 is one of the few Red Brangus Summit Cows in the breed and is a maternal sister to OB Ranches Red Bull. Both 101Z and204Z have full sisters that were Show Champions and both have full brothers that are herd sires. Genetics that consistently produce elite females and herd sires arenot easy to come by. I don't think I need to list all the qualities of these heifers because I think they speak for themselves, the only problem is picking one!

Selling Buyers Choice from these two females. Buyer will get full (100%) possession and one-half (50%) embryo interest. BKC Ranch will retain one-half (50%)embryo interest.

Brangus Gold Replacement Females…Because the commercial Brangus female should be notedthroughout the US beef industry as having excellent maternalcharacteristics, distinguishing females sired by IBBA bulls fromother 'Brangus-type' females and developing marketing and pro-motional support for producers using IBBA bulls to producereplacement females should be a priority of the IBBA. The IBBAcommercial female program is designed to: Add value to com-mercial replacement females sired byIBBA bulls through organized marketingopportunities for those females with theultimate goal of increasing the demand forthe IBBA bulls needed to produce thosefemales. To fully realize this goal, the pro-gram must have high credibility throughverification of all claims and be reason-ably simple for potential participants andpotential female buyers to fully understand.

OptimaxX…Add value to your bulls by adding value to their calves! The IBBA has launched a USDA genetics, source and age veri-fication program, OptimaxX. The OptimaxX program is a directresult of the renewed commitment on the part of Brangus breedersto service the commercial beef industry with value adding prod-ucts. OptimaxX calves will not only be source and age verified, but also Brangus verified. Verifying the Brangus content ofthe calves adds another layer of valuable information forthe buyer over a generic source and age verificationprogram. The buyers of calves with the bright yellowOptimaxX tag will know exactly what they are negotiat-ing for. Progeny of Brangus, Red Brangus Ultrablack,Ultrared and Certified animals that are properly recorded

with IBBA are eligible for the OptimaxX program. The OptimaxX tag will provide access to current marketing avenuesfor age and source verified calves, as well as, future market accessprograms developed specifically for Brangus-influenced calves. The

only direct cost to a commercial producer to access theprogram and these marketing opportunities will be

the cost of the OptimaxX tag, $1.25 for the visual tag and$3.25 for a paired visual and electronic tag. Data manage-ment services required to comply with USDA requirementswill be provided by the IBBA at no charge to the producer. The IBBA will also maintain pertinent marketing informa-tion (backgrounding, preconditioning, etc.) on OptimaxXcalves in an internet database for easy access by poten-

tial buyers.
