Dear Parish Family, Congratulations to our First Holy Communicants who will be receiving our Eucharistic Lord for the first time this Sunday at the 10:30 AM Mass. May this union with Jesus be fulfilled for each of them in Heaven when He calls them from this life to Himself!
Don’t miss out on the Natural Family Planning presentation this Tuesday evening, May 5th, at 7:00 PM by Dr. Mark and Debra Kummers. Everyone needs to understand the true meaning of human sexuality as there are always opportunities to impart this much needed knowledge (to children and grandchildren, to family and friends) Finally, May is our parish’s month to assist Catholic Social Services of Baldwin County in stocking their Food Pantry. The following items are urgently needed: canned fruit, jelly, chili, beef stew, instant potatoes. These items are needed on a regular basis: breakfast cereals, boxes of grits/oatmeal, spaghetti sauce, canned chicken and pork & beans. There are boxes in the vestibule of the Church – please help us to fill them each Sunday, starting next weekend!! Monetary donations are also gratefully accepted (tax-deductible checks should be made out to CSS and dropped in our collection basket at Mass). A reminder – they cannot give out expired or opened food items. In Christ, our Risen Lord, Father James Dean

St. Benedict School News….
The Arts at Saint Benedict Catholic School play a large part in the school culture. Performing arts such as choral music, dance, drama and string instruments, visual arts, and foreign language are all part of the broader curriculum. There is a great deal of information showing benefits of the arts including a 2008 study by The Education Commission of the States, which concludes that “arts can play a critical role in improving the academic performance of students. In a national sample of 25,000 students, those students ‘with high levels of arts-learning experiences’ earned higher grades and scored better on standardized tests than those with little or no involvement in the arts, regardless of socioeconomic status. Learning through the arts also appears to have significant effects on learning in other disciplines, with ‘students consistently involved in theater and music showing higher levels of success in math and reading.’” Not only do rainbow students benefit academically, but their happy anticipation of their arts classes clearly shows how they create hues in a black and white world.
Pictures of Parish Functions The Parish Council has requested pictures of parish functions to post on the bulletin board in the parish hall. Examples of the type of functions are as follows: First Communion, Confirmation, Vacation Bible School, church dinners and summer fun days. In order to facilitate this effort, it is requested that anyone in the parish who takes pictures of one of these events and would like to share the picture with the parish; please send an email with the picture attached to either Carl Klingelberger ([email protected]) or Erin Faulk ([email protected]). We will then print out the pictures and post them periodically on the bulletin board for everyone in the parish to see.

Life Line Screening
St Bartholomew Catholic Church is pleased to offer a preventive health event. Life Line Screening, a leading provider of community-based preventive health screenings, will host their affordable, non-invasive and painless health screenings on 6/17/2015. Register for a Wellness Package which includes 4 vascular tests and osteoporosis screening from $149 ($139 with our member discount). All five screenings take 60-90 minutes to complete Also, we are happy to announce that Life Line Screening is working with us to provide our members $10 additional discounts off of a screening package in addition to a $10 donation to St Bartholomew Catholic Church. Please note that you must sign up on either the provided registration sheet (available on the flyers) or by calling the special Helping Hands registration number, which is 1-800-324-9458, in order for us to receive our $10 donation as well.
