MARCH This month we will: - Practice throwing underhand - Practice throwing overhand - Learn how to look BEFORE we throw - Play throwing and catching games with friends Throwing (1) Throwing takes balance, coordination, strength and flexibility. Being good at throwing helps children feel comfortable joining in games with friends. Game Time: Play time is the best time! Target Practice: Tape pictures to the wall at various heights. Pictures can be of your child's favorite things (ex. dinosaurs) or of letters or numbers. Have your child throw small balls or bean bags at the pictures. March Madness: Watch some college basketball with our child! . Every day tasks that support throwing: Putting laundry in a hamper or washer/dryer: Encourage your child to place an item of clothing into a hamper, washer or dryer. Rolled up socks are perfect to throw into a hamper or laundry basket. Challenge your child to a game to see who can get more socks into the hamper! Cleaning up toys: Encourage your child to gently toss toys into a bucket or toy box. Your child can throw the toy underhand or overhand. Be sure to discuss with your child which toys can be thrown and which cannot. Wiping off a table/counter or dusting with a cloth: This activity helps build arm and core strength which are both needed to support learning to throw.
