HOLY FAMILY PAGE 1 DECEMBER 27, 2015 Through a Glass Darkly Through a Glass Darkly Through a Glass Darkly MERRY CHRISTMAS: What an incredible weekend! Merry Christmas to everyone! The promise that God would save us has been fulfilled in history and also in our lives each day. God saves. He saves us from our sins. He saves us from those fears that eat at our hearts. He saves us from loneliness. The crowds this past Thursday and Friday were huge. I love it when the family comes together. I love to see our alumni come to worship here when they are home from school. I love it when our graduates, who are now married and have their own children, come home and come to Lakes. I love it when I see new faces who are joining us for this season. I love the crowds, the noise, the crying babies and smiling faces. I love the singing, the brass, the timpani, the pianos, guitars and organ. I love the flowers but mostly, I love celebrating these sacred and holy mysteries. I want to thank the members of the parish community, led by Tim Wolowiec, who decorated the church. I want to thank Tim Smith, our music minister, for all the great music from the Christmas Concert through the Christmas masses. I want to thank Jackie Thompson, and the members of the Contemporary Ensemble, for their ministry at the Christmas Concert and the Christmas masses. I want to thank Jenna Fuller, the Assistant Music Minister, for her work with Tim throughout Advent and Christmas. I want to thank our staff for setting up the Social Hall to accommodate the overflow crowds. I want to thank the ushers for their job in making sense out of the chaos. And I want to thank God for bringing us all together. I have always said “Once a Laker, always a Laker” to describe the parish family. This year the school has a new slogan that is also quite appropriate; “Praise the Maker it’s great to be a Laker.” Peace Fr. Delonnay

Through a Glass DarklyThrough a Glass DarklyThrough a Glass Darkly MERRY CHRISTMAS: What an incredible weekend! Merry Christmas to

everyone! The promise that God would save us has been fulfilled in

history and also in our lives each day. God saves. He saves us from our

sins. He saves us from those fears that eat at our hearts. He saves us

from loneliness.

The crowds this past Thursday and Friday were huge. I love it when the

family comes together. I love to see our alumni come to worship here

when they are home from school. I love it when our graduates, who are

now married and have their own children, come home and come to Lakes.

I love it when I see new faces who are joining us for this season. I love the

crowds, the noise, the crying babies and smiling faces. I love the singing,

the brass, the timpani, the pianos, guitars and organ. I love the flowers but

mostly, I love celebrating these sacred and holy mysteries.

I want to thank the members of the parish community, led by Tim

Wolowiec, who decorated the church. I want to thank Tim Smith, our

music minister, for all the great music from the Christmas Concert through

the Christmas masses. I want to thank Jackie Thompson, and the

members of the Contemporary Ensemble, for their ministry at the

Christmas Concert and the Christmas masses. I want to thank Jenna

Fuller, the Assistant Music Minister, for her work with Tim throughout

Advent and Christmas. I want to thank our staff for setting up the Social

Hall to accommodate the overflow crowds. I want to thank the ushers for

their job in making sense out of the chaos.

And I want to thank God for bringing us all together.

I have always said “Once a Laker, always a Laker” to describe the parish

family. This year the school has a new slogan that is also quite

appropriate; “Praise the Maker it’s great to be a Laker.”

FR. BRIAN’S BLESSINGS

Merry Christmas! I pray that the joy of the

greatest gift of God's love lasts in your hearts and

homes this whole season. Although the radio

stations will return to their regularly scheduled

programs, the decorations will come down at

Great Lakes Crossing, and most of the world will

move on to the next holiday, as Catholics we

know the joys of Christmas cannot be contained

on one mere day. The Church rejoices in the

Lord for whom we have be waiting for a full eight

days, the octave of Christmas. Then, we

experience the joys of the whole Christmas

season until the Feast of the Baptism of the Lord

in January. So, leave those Nativity sets up and

continue to spread the love, peace, and joy of the

season... It's still Christmas! God is with us!

Emmanuel has come!

There is so much to celebrate in the

Christmas season...

The feast of St. Stephen, patron of deacons

(happy feast to our deacons here!) The feast of

the Holy Innocents, those first little ones to give

their lives for Christ. The feast of St. John, the

Apostle and author of the beautiful, poetic Fourth

Gospel.

Today then is the feast of the Holy Family of

Jesus, Mary, and Joseph. Today's feast reminds

us that we are all called to holiness right where

we are at, in the midst of families, jobs, school

work, and every day life. As Mary and Joseph

sought to make their home a loving, peaceful

place for God to dwell with His people, let us pray

that our homes too will be havens of

unconditional love, support, mercy, and peace.

Through the intercession of His Holy Family,

may Christ bless you and yours and make them

holy as well.

Remember to introduce yourself to new faces in church. We want everyone to feel welcome at Our Lady of the Lakes.

ST. VINCENT de PAUL

NOVEMBER UPDATE

Our Lady of the Lakes, St. Vincent de Paul continues to

work hard to help those in need. We answered over 150

phone calls, made 9 home visits, had 10 interviews in the

Parish Center, drove 90 miles and helped 158 people. Our

very generous parish donated $19,024.80 and we wrote

checks to help those in need totaling $13,758.58. As you

can see, we have been busy.

One case that stands out was a young family with 2

small children. Because of an injury the father, who was a

brick layer, needed to find new employment. His injury left

him unable to work as a brick layer. He was off work and is

now working at a much lower wage. We helped them catch

up on their rent. Going forward they will have a tight budget

but should be able to pay their bills. We can help these

families only because you donate to us. Thank you for

supporting OLL St. Vincent de Paul.

Start 2016 with the Gospel of John

THURSDAY BIBLE STUDY

Make a resolution now to start the year right with a study of the Gospel of John. You don’t have to be a Bible scholar or have any bible study experience to enjoy and share in our discussions. All are welcome! We will look at a couple of chapters of John per week focusing on what we can learn about God and how it applies to our everyday lives. Our study of John’s account of Christ’s life will take us through Lent and finish during the Easter season paralleling these times in the church year. Our first meeting will be Thursday, January 7th at 10:00am in the Religious Education building. Please join us. For more details or questions contact Cindy Brown at 248-623-6136 or email [email protected].

COMMUNION TO HOMEBOUND

Can you help with three different individuals that need

communion taken to their home. They live in three different

Waterford locations. The first lives off Dixie Hwy. close to

Kmart, the second off North Oakland Blvd. & M-59, and the

third off Cooley Lake Rd. Please call Cindy Webster at 248

-623-0274 if you can help. All volunteers need to take the

Protecting God’s Children class. If you haven't taken it yet

we can help you find a location.

REST IN PEACE

Remember those who have

gone before us

“Happy are those who have

died in the Lord;

Let them rest from their labors

For their good deeds go with them.”

Our thoughts and prayers are with their families. May

the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God,

rest in peace. Amen.

STEWARDSHIP THOUGHTS

The two themes of family honor and obedience link

today’s Scripture readings. The Book of Sirach states that

those who honor their father and revere their mother atone

for their sins and store up riches. Those who take care of

aging parents are also not forgotten — their kindness is

planted as an offering against sin. In the Gospel, Mary and

Joseph find Jesus in the Temple after an extensive search.

St. Luke proclaims that they return to Nazareth, and Jesus

obeys them. Good stewardship begins at home. The

Second Vatican Council, and later Pope St. John Paul II,

described the family as the “Domestic Church.” The two

MARRIAGE: LOVE AND LIFE IN

THE DIVINE PLAN

Marriage in the Church: “As a vocation, or call from God, marriage has a public and ecclesial status within the Church.

Catholic spouses ordinarily exchange marital consent within a church setting, before a priest or deacon. The living-out of marriage takes place within the whole Body of Christ, which it serves and in which it finds nourishment.”
