THE THRONE SCENE

Revelation 5:1-6Revelation 5:1-6

Page 2: Throne scene

Introduction

• Revelation is singular, not plural• It is not a series of photos, but a

live action movie – with color, sound, in 3D

• Setting is described in chapter 4 – camera is slowly zooming in on the opening scene.– God on the throne– 4 living ones (archangels), 24 elders

(apostles, and Israel), host of angels, all humanity

Page 3: Throne scene

Revelation 5:1 And I saw in the right hand of Him who sat on the throne a scroll written inside

and on the back, sealed with seven seals.

• Now the camera moves in on the action – the throne of God

• God has a scroll in His hand, sealed with 7 seals

• 7 is an important number• 7 represents – whole, entire,

complete

Page 4: Throne scene

Revelation 5:1 And I saw in the right hand of Him who sat on the throne a scroll written inside

and on the back, sealed with seven seals.

• Written on both sides• Scrolls were papyrus or vellum (calf

or goat skin)• Both have a smooth side and a

rough side• Most are written on smooth side

only• Both sides = THIS IS IMPORTANT !

Revelation 5:1 And I saw in the right hand of Him who sat on the throne a scroll written inside

and on the back, sealed with seven seals.

• Not : like an air tight canning jar• Seal does not mean trapped inside

and can't get out• Seal = seal of authority– Shows authority – notary public seal,

seal on offical documents– Shows it to be genuine – not

tampered with, not changed

Page 6: Throne scene

Revelation 5:2 Then I saw a strong angel proclaiming with a loud voice, "Who is worthy to

open the scroll and to loose its seals?"

• Strong angel – one of the four closest to the throne of God

• Archangels were the higest rank among the angels of God

• “Who is worthy ?” - Who has the authority to break the seals ?

• Seal in your electric meter – do not tamper with it

Page 7: Throne scene

Revelation 5:3 And no one in heaven or on the earth or under the earth was able to open the

scroll, or to look at it.

• Look around this building• Look around our nation• Look around our world• Spiritual leaders, political leaders

(past or present)• Great leaders in the Bible – Noah,

Moses, Joshua, David, Solomon• In heaven – Apostles, angels,

archangels

Page 8: Throne scene

Revelation 5:4 So I wept much, because no one was found worthy to open and read the scroll,

or to look at it.

• John is weeping – Why ?• Here is a message from God• BUT : No one can open it• If it can't be opened – it can't be

read• Think about a letter in the mail –

Who can open and look inside ?

Page 9: Throne scene

Revelation 5:5 But one of the elders said to me, "Do not weep. Behold, the Lion of the tribe of

Judah, the Root of David, has prevailed to open the scroll and to loose its seven seals."

• An elder speaks – apostle or representative of Israel

• Don't weep – Don't give up, all is not lost

• Lion of Judah – the tribe of kings

• Root of David – in the blood line of the kings of Judah

Revelation 5:6 And I looked, and behold, in the midst of the throne and of the four living creatures, and in the midst of the

elders, stood a Lamb as though it had been slain, having seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven Spirits of

God sent out into all the earth.• The camera spins around to look

at the LION of Judah• There is the LAMB• In movies there are sudden and

surprising change of scenes
