Thriller Evaluation Q3What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

What type of distribution company would distribute your film?

I think our media product would best be distributed by StudioCanal as they have key links in Britain and Europe which is where our target demographic lies. I think it would also be distributed mainly in Britain as it is a more obscure product and does not have mainstream appeal for other distribution companies such as Warner Bro’s or Universal.

StudioCanal has released similar products to ours such as the drama Anna Karenina and has had success with more obscure films such as Les Miserable.

StudioCanal has also distributed a lot of thriller films, which is what genre our product is, such as Payroll, ‘71, The Imagination Game, Broken City, Kill Bill Volume 2 and 5 Fingers among many other thriller films.

StudioCanal has also distributed a lot of british films such as ’71, Imagination Game, An Inspector Calls, The Carry On Films, Baseline and Bellman & True.

Which cinemas would most likely show your film?

Cinemas such as Cinema City and other independent cinemas would be more likely to show our film as cinemas such as this appeal to film goers who prefer non mainstream films and that is what our media product is. Cinemas like this also have more of a cult following who would go watch a more obscure film such as ours which means it could be more successful.

The main reason Cinema City would be the type of establishment to show our film is because it does not appeal to the mainstream so would not be successful in mainstream cinemas.

Cinema City has also had successes with films such as ours like Anna Karenina and other period dramas like the film there now A Little Chaos.

How could technologies offer new distribution opportunities?

New technology could help us distribute our production as we could release adverts on popular streaming sites such as YouTube or Vimeo.

We could set up a Facebook and Twitter page to get ourselves noticed by a large number of people easily and also focus on places where the film is being shown.

Video-on-demand sites such as NetFlix could help us get out film noticed as subscribers of this would not have to pay to see our film but we would still get payed for it so it could appeal to a market unwilling to pay for something as they may be new to it.
