Developing the brand, we have extended its application to a new website, staff uniforms and badging, business stationery, street and estate signage and several marketing and print advertising campaigns. Hillier Consulting produces the Trust’s annual report, and a suite of corporate publications. And we publish a range of magazines and newsletters for residents. Recruitment and retention is of critical importance in the care home sector and we manage the Trust’s online and print recruitment advertising. As well as launching and publishing the chief executive’s blog we drafted the Trust’s corporate social media policy. In March 2017 we updated the Thorngate Living brand alongside our new corporate identity for the re-structured Trust in preparation for an expansion programme and the building of new sheltered accommodation. We have updated the website, applying the new corporate identity and refreshed branding whilst introducing improved functionality. All on budget and on time. Dot has been a resident of the Trust for nearly seven years; she lived at Elizabeth Court for six years and moved to Russell Churcher Court in September 2013. Dot has a large family – four children, three daughters and one son. She has several great, great grandchildren, including Lily. Dot was born in Gosport and for many years worked in nursing. Since moving to Russell Churcher Court she has enjoyed her favourite foods especially sausage, bacon and eggs, as well as fish and chips. She also enjoys puzzles and watching detective programmes on television. The Mayor, Cllr Wayne Ronanyne, paid a special visit. Her Majesty the Queen didn’t forget the day and sent her own royal birthday wishes. Five generations of Dot’s family including her great, great granddaughter Lily The summer highlight at Russell Churcher Court is almost upon us. The Grand Summer Fete is taking place on Saturday 12July between noon and 4pm. This year the festivities will be opened by Alex Pike, well known locally as manager of Gosport Borough Football Club. There will be lively entertainment from the Thorngate Singers and Dave Dee, who will perform throughout the afternoon. The ever popular Cake Stall will be selling banana bread, caramel shortbread, fruit cakes, carrot cakes, victoria sponges and fruit tarts. And there’ll be baked goodies for diabetics. For those wanting something hot, the barbeque will be serving hot dogs, beef burgers and jacket potatoes. Brenda’s tea room will provide waitress service, and you will be able to sit down, relax with friends and enjoy a scone with jam and clotted cream or a slice of cake served with a refreshing cup of tea or coffee. There will be Tombola, toys, crafts, bric-a-brac, clothes, books, jewellery and guess the weight of the cake. In the spirit of the World Cup, there will be a chance to ‘beat the Goalie’. Other fun will include guess the name of the mouse, a Dragon treasure map, a children’s tombola, hook a duck and face painting. Fete visitors can buy a card on the door for £1which will allow you to have five goes on some of the 25p games. The Grand Summer Fete Raffle and the results of the competitions will be announced at around4pm. We look forward to welcoming you all and do bring your friends, neighbours and families. In particular GAIN focusses on providing advice on debt & money management, employment, welfare benefits, health and housing. Gain’s original launch was attended by Caroline Dinenage MP and the Mayor of Gosport. Since the launch, GAIN and its partners have conducted a comprehensive survey of service users to identify issues experienced when seeking advice or information in Gosport. GAIN will use this information over the coming year to work with local organisations to improve provision of information and advice in Gosport. Anita Muff, Gosport Citizens Advice Bureau (CAB) Manager, said:“Gosport CAB is pleased to be a partner in this exciting project that will enable the residents of Gosport to obtain the free quality advice they need for the problems they face. It was our hope that those seeking advice would only need to tell their story once and that they would also be provided with the skills to deal with future problems; such as the changes to the payment frequency of benefits and accessing services online.” Angela Gill, GAIN Project Manager added:“GAIN will raise awareness of local organisations’ services to ensure that local people receive the best service possible.” GAIN is working with its partners, including the government’s Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) and Job Centre Plus in Gosport, to help local people. Electronic care plans are a way of cutting down on duplicated paperwork and making the job of carers in Russell Churcher Court more efficient, which in turn, will allow them to spend more time on each individual resident. Since Christmas we have been actively trialling a system called Ablyss. This new system has worked well, improving our processes and efficiency, and we are now in the process of rolling it out through the care home. One big advantage we have become aware of is that with long term use, we are more easily able to search for and identify trends that previously might not have been quite so immediately obvious. Such trends include our own staff performance and particular types of falls suffered by residents. It will be interesting to see other advantages of the new technology as we extend it throughout our work. It is exciting to be introducing Ablyss and keeping Russell Churcher Court at the cutting edge of modern residential care. Computerised systems help us improve record keeping and streamline documentation, speeding up processes to give our carers more quality time with each resident. And, of course, we’ll be fine tuning the programme to meet our particular requirements and sharing our experiences and best practice with other care homes, enabling as many as possible to benefit from our advances.
