YOUR STORY BEGINS…

INTIMATE WEDDINGS

Make it a private and personal occasion that’s all about you. If you love the idea of an elegant ceremony for two (with the option of up to 12 guests), we’ll create a day that’s simply perfect.

Get married in the historic library of Thornbury Castle, with the stunning oriel windows as the backdrop. Or choose a ceremony in the picturesque summerhouse, set within its own rose garden. We can even supply witnesses (in fact, we love to). However you plan to celebrate, we’ll help you design an occasion that captures who you are, and is every bit as personal as you could wish.

YOUR WEDDING CEREMON Y

The breathtaking setting of Thornbury Castle is available for wedding ceremonies, vow renewals and blessings.

We have several rooms that are licensed for wedding ceremonies, each inclusive of a complimentary long and low floral arrangement for the registrar’s table.

The Lounge Our lounge and library provide a timelessly elegant environment for your ceremony. The wood panelled lounge is furnished with antiques and plush Knole sofas, with original oil paintings and an ornate fireplace. Get married in front of a stunning feature window, in rooms gently lit by firelight and candelabras.

The lounge and library are perfect for relaxed gatherings and can accommodate up to 24 guests, with ceremony room hire from £750.

The Tudor Hall The Tudor Hall is a magnificent space unlike any other in the country. An atmospheric room filled with light from a mullioned window, it features stone walls hung with tapestries and paintings, and a huge original fireplace. Say your vows in front of the window or fireplace, with soft candelabra lighting.

The Tudor Hall can accommodate up to 70 guests, with ceremony and wedding breakfast room hire from £1,500.

The Tudor GardensIn the castle grounds and original Tudor gardens, you’ll literally walk in the footsteps of nobles through the ages. Our idyllic walled gardens form a romantically private sphere, with two rose gardens, a privy garden and pleasure garden to explore. Inside the garden walls is a stone summerhouse, ideal for intimate outdoor services.

The summerhouse is licensed for intimate ceremonies (guests can watch the ceremony from outside in the rose garden). The Yew Tree in the Goodly Gardens is also licensed for ceremonies, where the lawns can accommodate up to 70 guests to watch.

FOOD AND DRINK

Once your ceremony is complete, celebrate with close friends and family. Mingle and chat while we serve from a selection of soft drinks, fine wines and Champagnes, together with delicious freshly prepared canapés.

Walk out to a traditional Champagne reception, or opt for something seasonal. For a warm summer’s day, choose refreshing Pimm’s and lemonade in the garden, or create a cosy winter reception with a fireside glass of mulled wine.

If you’d like an informal or vintage celebration, our renowned afternoon tea will set the perfect tone. Sit down to a classic cream tea, full afternoon tea, or – as it’s a special occasion – an indulgent Champagne afternoon tea.

We offer three menu options for your wedding breakfast, but are more than happy to arrange a meeting with our Head Chef, who can create an entirely bespoke menu for your special day. You may also like to request additional courses, such as a fish course, cheese course or palate cleansing sorbet.

When you exclusively hire the whole castle or North Wing, we’ll arrange a complimentary menu tasting, where you can sample dishes before making any decisions. Our sommelier will also be on hand to advise on the best wines to accompany your choices.

To round off your day, we offer several evening options, including finger buffets, hot fork buffets, barbecues, a hog roast, and crowd-pleasing bacon rolls.

AND SO TO BED…

There’s no better way to finish your day than sinking into a warm four-poster bed. As the only Tudor castle hotel in England, Thornbury Castle is able to offer unforgettable accommodation for you and your guests.

Every one of our 27 bedchambers is fabulously atmospheric, most featuring four-poster or coronet beds, stone walls, tapestries, roaring fires, ornate carved ceilings and views over the historic parkland and River Severn.

All bedchambers are luxuriously warm, with many heated by real fires. Marrying historic charm with modern comfort, rooms contain opulent, well-appointed bathrooms – some with baths and showers – and lots of welcoming touches.

Classics and Superior ClassicsOur three classic and four superior classic bedchambers are generous, traditionally decorated double rooms, with the option of a double bed or twin beds.

DeluxeThese unique bedchambers contain four-poster beds and period features such as arrow-slit or leaded windows, exposed stone walls in the North Wing, and majestic wallpapering in the South. Henry VIII and Anne Boleyn stayed in the Duke’s Bedchamber, one of our present-day deluxe rooms, during their 1535 visit.

Deluxe SuitesEach of our three deluxe suites has a separate dressing or lounge area, an open fire and fantastic décor. Two contain four-poster beds, while one has a generous double.

Tower SuiteChoose the high life: the Tower bedchamber is at the top of the tower in the South Wing and is reached by a spiral staircase of 77 stone steps (we’ll carry your luggage). Its huge four-poster bed, sumptuous Tudor furnishings, silk wall hangings and stunning views across Gloucestershire make this, quite literally, the top suite in the castle.

The GatehouseSecluded and self-contained, the Victorian gatehouse is located next to our vineyard and includes a double room, twin room and two bathrooms (one en-suite). Enjoy the privacy of having your own lounge/dining room, kitchen and garden, while the facilities of magnificent Thornbury Castle are just across the lawns.
