Current Procedural Terminology (CPT®) for thoracic radiosurgery payment• In 2013, the American Medical Association’s (AMA) annual
updatesincludedanewCPTcodeforStereotacticRadiosurgery(SRS)andStereotacticBodyRadiationTherapy(SBRT)treatmentplanningforthoraciclesions.
• CPT code 32701 is available for pulmonologists, thoracic andgeneralsurgeonstobill for theirparticipationandcollaboration withourcenter’sradiationoncologistsintheirpatients’CyberKnife®treatmentplans.
• ThereisnoglobalserviceperiodforCPT32701.Inadditiontotargetdelineation,physiciansmayalsobillforotherservices,whichcouldincludeconsultations,fiducialplacementandfollow-upcare.
• Priortoreleaseofthiscode,reimbursementtothoracicsurgeons’andotherphysicians’participationintheCyberKnifetreatmentplanningprocesswashighlyvariable.Thedecisiontocreateacodeforphysiciancollaborationemphasizesandsupportsamultidisciplinaryapproachtoprovidingqualitypatientcare.
