When thinking about most people, you most likely would not assess a football player to be more of a gamer or a nerdy type than a football player. When thinking about ethnicity, a Japanese/Mexican/white guy probably doesn't come to mind either. Well, by looking into the life of Thomas Fletcher, that’s what you will find. When at school you will most likely find me doing some kind of sport, playing football, lifting weights, running track, or doing school work. But those are not really my main interests.

At home, you will almost always find me on my PC playing a video game with a friend having the time of my life. Or, on other occasions, you will find me in my room watching anime all day long and ruining my eyesight by watching so much. Not as often, you may find me reading or running errands for my mom or dad around the house.

Looking at a person one doesn’t usually connect a Mexican to a Japanese person who is also white. Well look no further, you have found one. When talking to people, I usually bring up that I am Japanese. What most people don’t know is that I am actually more Mexican than Japanese! The reason I tell people I am more Japanese is because I know more about my Japanese side than I do my Mexican or white side. Reason being that I spent more time with my Baachan (Japanese Grandma) Than I did with my Mexican grandma. She would tell me of all the stories of her childhood, living in Japan, being in the fields, and working at an Air Force base where she met my Granddad. She even told me recently that my triple great grandfather was one of the last remaining Samurai of Japan. I don’t know very much about him, but I knew he had a lot of land and that one day he had lost it all in a bet or something, then had to lie to my Baachan’s family about losing the land. But where does the last name Fletcher come in?

In Scotland, there was a clan called Fletcher, also known as arrow maker. I really have no idea about this as my great uncle was doing tons of research and traveling, and he has passed away. What I do know though is that my ancestors there had met Irish people some time and maybe even the French. A have really no idea on how where or why they came to America and how it led to my granddad, all I know is that he has a lot of siblings, and many relatives scattered throughout the USA. The little I know about my Mexican side is a little saddening. All I really know that is before America came, we had been living in an area in New Mexico. So when the Americans came, we ended up in America, as the border crossed us.

BackgroundAlthough I was born in the city of Corona, I grew up and was raised in the city of Redlands. I first went to school at Christ the King for my preschool and kindergarten years. I don't really remember much about it, but it was a nice school (so I'm told). What school I do remember though is Redlands Christian School. I went from first through 8th grade at that school and made friends with my entire class so much so that they felt like family to me.

When I was in second grade at RCS I met a guy (let’s call him Bob for safety reasons). Bob was really my first friend. I was very shy and didn’t know anyone, so I didn’t want to talk to anyone. He made me talk to him by introducing himself to me. After that day, we became fast friends. I had introduced him to Pokémon, my main interest at the time and got him into it, because he knew nothing about it at the time. Bob introducing himself to me was really the start of making friends. After that day, I had someone to confide with at school, so I could start taking risks and talking to new people. After about 8 years I got to know everyone like family! After I graduated going into the RUSD was sort of scary and I didn’t know what to expect.

Future Goals

Main Menu

The general consensus of young men nowadays is that they always want to go to the NFL or get a scholarship for sports. Not so with me. I really want to grow up doing a job that I enjoy (and make a lot of money doing it). I would rather go to college and go through medical school to become a surgeon or go through law school to become a lawyer. But honestly I have really no idea what I want to do for a living. I am still really young (not even 16 yet) so I have while a while to decide what I want to do for the rest of my life.

Most kids brush school off as something that wastes their time, but in reality it sets you up for your entire life. My real goal is to retire at an early age and have a bunch of money to be able to do what I want. In order to do that, I need a job that has good pay and will enable me to save and budget my money for my future. I don’t know very much about the different colleges, but I think I may want to go to Caltech because of my love for technology.

Personal Goals

Main Menu

Since most of my personal goals rely on me making tons of money, it gives me incentive to reach my future goals. When I am older and hopefully retire at an early age, I will travel the world and see and help the world, if I can. I want to have a house in all of my favorite countries and have the time to visit them and explore and learn the language of that country. I really want to be able to take up Aikido again and re-learn or finish learning that martial art. Playing an instrument has always intrigued me as my father and grandfather had both played in high school. Learning multiple instruments and being polyglot would be some of my main goals as an early retired person or even just a still working person.Out of all the countries I want to visit, I really want to go back to Japan, having some family there. I visited it one time in my past when I was very young, and now I feel now that I know more about the country that I can visit and get more out of the trip this time around.

Video Games Anime/Manga Football

I feel as my though my interests are divided into three categories. Video games, Anime/Manga, and football. When I think about what I do in my free time it feels like so much more, but in reality it can be broken down into three groups. Outside of school, this is really all I do, with friends.

Interests and Hobbies Menu

This is my number one interest. I have spent literally thousands of hours playing video games and am not planning on stopping anytime soon. I celebrate when Friday is finally over and Frinight can begin. I will come home and play video games for the rest of the night and all of Saturday Only stopping to really eat, drink and using the restroom. I don’t play alone, I usually have friends to play with. We could play games from TF2 to the seemingly endless games we have on Steam.

I have been playing videogames since I was just three. My dad had a Sega Dreamcast and the first game I ever played was Rush, an awesome racing game where you could fly. I loved that game and that really sparked my love for video games at an early age. No not a day goes by without me thinking, speaking, or hearing about video games. It even influences the music I listen to.

Anime/MangaUntil about the 6th Grade, I knew nothing about anime, until a friend recommend an anime television show to me. I watched that show, Soul Eater, and fell in love. Little had I known though, I had been watching anime for a very long time not knowing it was actually anime. The original Pokémon series was always on TV and being an avid fan of Pokémon, I watched it all the time. When I watched that anime back in sixth grade, It opened a whole new door for me.

When I think about anime now, what comes to mind are show like Fairy Tail, Soul Eater, and Fullmetal Alchemist. But learning about anime also taught me about manga, a Japanese style comic book. I started reading Manga like Assassination Classroom and others. Getting into manga only more recently I have not had enough time or money to obtain all of the manga I wish to read. Manga can be expensive, Up to $15 for a tiny little book, but really worth it , as the story is amazing.

FootballAs strange as it may seem, I really do not like football. Before you ask why I have placed this slide here, let me explain. I do not enjoy watching football. I find watching is kind of boring. Why watch a guy in the NFL or on the sidelines, when I could be playing instead of them and having a blast? I do thoroughly enjoy playing football. It keeps me in shape and is quite fun to play with friends. It gives you a sense of togetherness that no other sport can really match like Baseball or Track.

When I play football, I rely on my friends and teammates to keep me safe from the other team and to help us all win. Football gives everyone a role, not just one person (though it may seem that way at times). The receivers may need to distract sometimes or go and catch the ball, whereas the line needs to protect the ball carrier so he can score. No matter how good you are, no one person can win a football game. I feel as time goes on my team at RHS will bond closer and closer until we are like a family.
