Travelling has always been one of my greatest passions. I guess it’s part of my culture and always has

drawn me to explore unknown destinations and seek unexpected experiences. It has a way of putting

life into perfect perspective, and as H.C. Anderson put it, “To travel is to live.” Travel also allows us

the chance to take a break from our over saturated, nonstop doing thus allowing us to stay ahead in

our game of life and just enjoy people and places.

Getting out of our comfort zone and exploring new places and cultures is like life on fast forward in a

good way. We get all the pleasure and no pressure.

After sending our 7 year old daughter, Tayla, off to see her nana in South Africa for 3 weeks, my wife

Debbie and I finally got to take our long awaited trip to Europe, which we have wanted to do since

getting married 17 years ago. I never thought I would actually pull the trigger and leave my business

to go on vacation for that long. If you follow me on Facebook and read my many posts about my daily

mediations and journey, you would understand how “I surrender to the unlimited power of the

universe.” Doing that has had a profound effect on helping me “Let Go.” However, make no mistake,

it does not mean to not care or not work. It is just believing that you are not the one who is in control.

We spent many hours planning, researching, booking, deciding on best routes and then finally

executing to get to see all the places we wanted to see. Our trip took us from Manchester, England

to Paris, France, then to The Loire Valley, Avignon, Rhone and Saint Tropez. And at all of those places

we enjoyed great food, outstanding wine and awesome scenery. This is what I took way from this trip:

The Culture in Europe is one of “work to live” not “live to work.”

1. There is something magical in seeing places hundreds of years old that holds a fascination in all of

us and inspires our imagination.

2. Europeans seem to enjoy life more by: taking it slower, smiling more, living in smaller homes,

driving smaller cars, and believing in a happier life.

3. Eating is a social event. Restaurants are all clustered together and Europeans take lunch from

2pm to 4pm and eat dinner out between 8pm to 10pm. They eat and all hang out together as a

community or family.

4. Always have a Plan B. No matter how well planned out, not everything works out as expected. After

a few days of travel, I got used to expecting the disruptions and unexpected challenges so I made

sure I had Plan B, that way we could painlessly move in another direction without it causing anxiety

and stress. Sometimes our Plan B was to have no plan and just follow the road.

5. Don’t take life so serious. My daily mantra of “Best Day Ever” let whatever happened, lead to us

learning something new about ourselves.

6. “Wherever you go, you take yourself with you.” --Neil Gaiman Whether in Los Angeles or Paris, if

you are not happy in your head, a change of location will not make you happy.

I really do love my life in California. Taking a trip allows one to see your life with fresh eyes and

appreciate what we sometimes take for granted.

I’m happy to be back, refreshed and ready to take on a few new challenges. I am truly blessed to have

had the opportunity to take this trip. The memories will forever be stored.
