Another fortnight done!!! The time is ticking past much too quickly. Great job! On Monday August 6th Rhonda Cole, our Senior Education Improvement Leader visited the school to discuss our progress this year. As part of the day, she visited several classrooms, looked at our school documents and discussed our school data. At the end of the conversation, her feedback was extremely positive. She was very impressed with the learning environment our teachers are providing, the consistency of good practice and the high expectations that are being set for our staff and students. I was extremely proud of our teachers and our students and glad to hear the positive affirmation that Kilmore Primary School is a great place to be. On Tuesday, I had a Casual Relief Teacher who has been doing some work at the school approach me to share his positive experiences while working at KPS. He said that it is the best school that he has worked in this year and commended the children on their manners, behaviour and attitude to work. What wonderful feedback. Well done everyone! Road safety Below is an email I received last week that I would like to share with you as it reinforces our concerns about the safety of our students when leaving the school grounds. We have spoken to all students both as a whole school and in class groups about the need to be vigilant when crossing the roads around the school. I have invited Adam or a member of his team to talk to the children as well so that they are getting the safety message from all perspectives.
Have a great week everyone.
Kim Laffan Principal
Good Morning, There have been two recent reported incidents at Schools within Mitchell Shire where children have been struck by cars, both incidents occurred as a result of children not crossing at school crossings. I have been to both sites where the incidents have taken place. I have noted that the incidents could have been averted if children had crossed at a school crossing or a parent or guardian assisted the child with crossing the road. As a parent myself with 3 young daughters, I understand that it doesn't take much for children to do something around cars and traffic that could result in an accident. I ask that you communicate with kids at your schools about the importance of crossing at school crossings, I also ask that you communicate with parents and people responsible for collecting children about assisting children with crossing busy roads. It only takes a few minutes out of their day. Over the last 4 School days there have been in excess of 45 infringements issued to people collecting children because they have parked illegally. This is very disappointing, I would prefer to have safe school zones, where people collecting children park legally which in turn provides a safer environment. If you have any concerns and or would like to discuss this matter or any other matter further, please feel free to call. I am also more than happy to met with Schools to see if improvements can be made in school zones. Problem of the Month
August
We are excited to introduce our very first numeracy ‘Problem of the Month’. Each month, four maths problems will be included in the newsletter for families to solve together. Families are invited to share their answers as mini posters to be displayed in the main office area. All entries will go into the draw for a small prize announced at the end of each month at assembly. Each problem has more than one answer. How many examples can your family find? Be as creative as possible finding the solutions and presenting your answers. We can’t wait to see the solutions for the problems below! Give each answer page/poster to Miss Crowther and include student/s name and grade. Due: By Friday 31st August.
Foundation Asha is thinking of a number
between 0 and 20. What could
the number be?
Grade 1/2 I am thinking of a number with nine ones. What could the number be?
Grade 3/4 I picked up a handful of
smarties. One quarter of them
were red. What might a draw-
ing of the smarties look like?
Grade 5/6 In a timber yard, I found 15 pieces of timber, all different lengths but all between 2.1m and 2.4m. How long might each piece have been?
Remember to write your name/s and grade on your answer page/poster!
I’m think-ing….

Being On Time Matters!
This year Kilmore Primary School is focusing on student at-tendance and arriving on time at school. Over the course of the year individual students and their families have worked hard on being organised – making lunches the night before, having school clothes and school bags packed ready for the morning and making sure everyone gets a good night’s sleep. Help your class win our being on Time Matters Award by arriving at school on time. Congratulations to the students who arrive at school on time.
If you are experiencing difficulties being at school on time please feel free to contact me.

Funds for Farmers
Wednesday, 5th September
Come to school dressed as a farmer, farm animal, crop, fruit, vegetable, farm machine, farm something….
Bring a gold coin to donate to Drought Angels
Our Student Representative Council (SRC) invites the KPS community to participate in our ‘Farm Day’ to raise money for Drought Angels who provide support for farmers. It all started with a question on the school Facebook page about raising money to support
farmers in drought stricken parts of the country. Mrs Laffan gave it the ‘green light’ and asked
our SRC to brainstorm ideas and research possible organisations to support. A survey was
conducted to determine the organisation, with ‘Drought Angels’ being chosen. A wonderful
example of parents, students and staff working together to support the wider community.
Foundation – Grade 2 Incursion – A Fish Story
Arjeetha - 2D On Tuesday, Foundation, Grade 1 and Grade 2 got to watch the word problem fish story. The story was very funny. The people who were acting in the show were Nick and Beth. They were super funny everyone loved it.
Austin - 2T I really liked the Fish Story because Mike made a portal and he and Beth pulled stuff out of the portal. I also liked when the man in the boat dropped his iPhone in the water.
Ruby - 2T I really enjoyed the fish story because Mike and Beth were really funny they also were being really silly. The funniest part was when Mike asked people for words and Beth wrote them down but Mike didn’t hear them properly
Guilly - 2D I really liked the Fish Story because the iPhone bit was hilarious because a fish founds the iPhone and it hit the fishes head.

We will accept CASH or EFTPOS or CREDIT CARD Thursday 23rd August 10am to 1pm Friday 24th August Straight after book Parade to 1pm Monday 27th August 1.30pm to 3.45pm Tuesday 28th August 10am to 1.30pm & 3pm to 3.45pm Wednesday 29th August straight after father’s day breakfast to 1pm & 3pm to 3.45pm Thursday 30th August 3pm to 3.45pm Students & parents will have the opportunity to come and purchase during operating times. Any questions please contact the office or Jodie Cloke on 0433271301 This year our book parade will be held on Friday 24th August in our first session in the stadium. Children are encouraged to come as their favourite book character.
Unfortunately we have several parents who continue to ignore the Department and school rule that parents are not to drive onto school grounds in cars unless authorised to do so.. We have had several near misses at the Lancefield Rd Car Park. This action compromises the safety of our children, putting convenience ahead of children safety. Thank you to the major ity of parents who abide by the rules to look after our students. I understand that parking is an issue and acknowledge that most primary school’s face the same dilemma. Disregarding safety rules is not the answer. The school car parks are not to be used for parent parking, dropping off children or picking them up unless authorised by the principal.
Overheard this week on my classroom visits and yard pawtrols… “Asha, why are you licking the carpet?” “ Do you ever run? Can you run faster than me?” “I didn’t know you liked banana!” “Have you got your Book Week costume ready?”
During a teacher meeting, I found a super spot to snooze. I tip pawed into a classroom, climbed aboard some
beanbags, snored and snored some more. Whilst I was in the land of nod, my teacher friends were busy
planning lessons for the week ahead. My student friends were at PE. Each week when my small friends go to
specialist classes, teachers work in teams to plan literacy and numeracy. Was I in your classroom?
Congratulations to my smallest friends – 100 Days of School! The Foundation Team celebrated with lots of
fun activities all about the number 100. Mrs James even let me borrow her party hat for a photo. I had to sit
very still so it didn’t fall off. I hope everyone has enjoyed their first 100 days of school. There are plenty
more to come! J
