The AED Foundation’s Certified Technician Program is the first of its kind for the equipment industry. The program offers dealers an opportunity to measure the expertise of their technicians. The AED Foundation’s Certified Manager Programs offer a blended curriculum of leadership and operational coursework to give managers the tools they need to succeed. Each program provides certification candidates the opportunity to complete learning requirements via web-based self-study courses that employees can complete on their own time and at their own pace.

Certified Manager Programs Include: Certified Parts Manager • Certified Service Manager • Certified Sales

Manager • Certified Branch Manager • Certified Rental Manager

Perkins V – Career & Technical Education Stakeholder Engagement: The recent passage of the Career & Technical Education for the 21st Century Act (known as Perkins V), will modernize career and technical education (CTE) programs. The Foundation is working to engage members and state CTE directors in all 50 states.

Industry Recognized Apprenticeship Program (IRAP): With the U.S. Department of Labor’s goal of developing industry-recognized apprenticeship programs (IRAPs), The AED Foundation is actively pursuing this opportunity for the equipment industry.

Pledge to America’s Workers: As part of a national effort, The AED Foundation has pledged to educate 10,000 individuals over the next five years through AED Foundation accredited diesel technology programs and association education seminars and courses. To date, the Foundation has educated over 1,000 individuals.

Technician Shortage Research Report: Results from The AED Foundation’s commissioned research about the financial impact the technician shortage is having on the industry will be released at AED’s 2020 Summit.

Before launching The AED Foundation’s accreditation program, no other non-OEM industry accreditation or certification program was available for college degree or high school programs in diesel/equipment technology.

Our accreditation program facilitates relationships between AED member dealers, AED Foundation Accredited and Recognized schools, and the broader industry. A unified effort makes participants more effective in addressing industry challenges.

AED Foundation Accreditation validates that applicant colleges offer high-quality degree programs that provide effective and comprehensive instruction in safety/administration, electrical/electronics, hydraulics/hydrostatics, power trains, diesel engines & fuel systems, and A/C & heating.

ARE YOU LOOKING FOR AN AED FOUNDATION ACCREDITED SCHOOL PROGRAM NEAR YOU?

The AED Foundation has put an increased focus on expanding its number of accredited college programs and recognized high school programs because this is the best way to build a sustainable pipeline of qualified technicians.

The AED Foundation continues to speed up the process to accredit and recognize programs by doing the following:

• Recruiting additional Evaluation Team Leaders (ETLs)

• Working collaboratively with schools to solve equipment and other material resources needs

• Assisting schools to develop a curriculum that meets AED Foundation’s technical standards

Aggressively accredit local equipment technology programs to ensure that there is a sufficient pipeline for highly qualified entry-level technicians in the future. The Foundation plans to grow its number of accredited and recognized school programs to 100 by 2024.

Expand The AED Foundation’s recognized high school initiative to help ensure that area college programs have active enrollment and a pool of qualified incoming students.

To effectively address the technician shortage and the image of the industry, it’s important to continuously build industry awareness for students, parents, educators, and other stakeholders. The AED Foundation actively works with industry and educational partners, as well as like-minded organizations, to promote rewarding career opportunities available in the equipment distribution industry.

Over the last two years, The AED Foundation has certified over 900 TECHNICIANS through our assessment testing, introduced a new platform for assessment testing, which will allow the Foundation to continue to grow and adapt in the future, and accredited and recognized 12 school programs. The Foundation plans to continue its growth to best support the future of the industry.
