PRELUDE Great is the Lord arr. Jack Schrader
*CALL TO WORSHIP (Responsive) L: Leader/P:People
L: Christ commissions his followers to tell others about him. P: The harvest is small because the laborers are few. But where people have shared the news of Christ, there is rejoicing over the harvest. L: Each generation reaps a sufficient harvest to keep the Church alive. But the church still makes too little impact in society. P: May God help us accept Christ’s Commission to interpret his good news to our neighbors.

GUATEMALA - Our Brandermill team needs to make a substitution because of a team member’s unfortunate accident which resulted in a broken hip. At this point, the airline is not willing to transfer the existing ticket to James Justin Nay, and we need to buy another ticket. Please prayerfully consider helping. A donation may be made online on the church website or by dropping off a check at the church office with Guatemala in the memo line. Your generosity for this mission is greatly appreciated. BLOOD DRIVE - Sunday, July 26 from 8 AM to 12:00 PM. Sign up in Fellowship Hall or https://vadonor.org. For more information, or if you have any questions, please contact Elaine Grider at [email protected]. WALK-IN FOOD MINISTRY is scheduled for Monday, July 20th. Our church is responsible for the third Monday of every other month. The group leaves the church at 10 AM for Second Presbyterian Church to prepare and serve 150 plus lunches for those needing a hearty, healthy meal to start their week. The group returns around 1 PM. To volunteer, contact Florence Hunt at [email protected] or 744-4386. WOMEN’S RETREAT OPPORTUNITIES - Ladies, please mark your calendars for a Women’s Retreat this fall (9/18-19) at Camp Hanover. OFFERTORY My Country, ’Tis of Thee arr. John Carter
*DOXOLOGY (Screen)
*PRAYER OF DEDICATION (Unison) Righteous and Holy God: On our own, we know we lack the strength to be the people of compassion and generosity that will please you. We know we are drawn by our own nature to that which serves our own selves and which meets only the needs of the moment. As we offer our gifts to you this day, we are reminded that only through your presence with us and in us are we are able to live generously, act compassionately, and forgive mercifully. Help us keep our human nature contained and our divine nature unleashed! We pray it in Christ’s holy name. Amen.

Our New Interim Lead Pastor is a
Familiar Face
Reverend Briggs came to our church three years ago to serve as the Pastor of Congregational Care, so many of you know him already. John entered the pastoral ministry after retiring from a 20-year business career in 1995. In the 16 years that followed, he served several congregations as a pastor in the Virginia Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church. In 2005, he and his partners, Marc Brown and Kathy Merry, formed the consulting firm Faithful Journey, LLC. In 2008 they published their first pair of books, “Does Your Church Have a Prayer?” to assist churches with mission and vision plan-ning. He and his wife Norma have been married for 46 years and have two children and four grandchildren.
SAVE THE DATE! VBS at Hillside Court will be August 10-15 and we will need help on August 9 to decorate. Please let Tammy know if this is something you are interested in supporting or would enjoy assisting with. SACRED CIRCLE DANCE - Wednesday, July 8 and 15 from 11:30 AM - 12:00 PM in the Sanctuary. Come and experience ancient dances from around the world that promote healing of individuals and the world. "There are no mistakes only variations!" LABYRINTH AND CENTERING PRAYER - Friday, July 10 at 9:30 AM. We will meet in the side parking lot at 9:30 and carpool to the Labyrinth at Union and experience Centering Prayer in Watts Chapel at 10:30. Afterwards, we’ll have a quick bite of lunch. Please let Tammy know if you can attend.
