Those of you who were in church this past Sunday watched Kevin Still be commissioned by Linda under the loving, watchful eye and prayer of his mother, Laura, and with the support of the congregation to serve this summer in a leadership position for the Appalachian Service Project (ASP). Likely those of you that are longtime members of the church watched Kevin grow from a young boy to a young man as he participated in church activities. We newer members met Kevin for the first time. Below is a bit more about this remarkable young man who has made a significant faith commitment this summer in the path to his long term, life goal of someday having his own HVAC or general contracting business.

Kevin grew up in Middlesex and at BBPC. He attended church with his parents and older brother, became confirmed and participated in the youth group until he aged out. During those years, Kevin participated in ASP 9 or 10 times, travelling to a number of Appalachian states. The trips were so memorable and meaningful that Kevin imagined someday participating in a leadership role. This year Kevin decided “to take the leap” and applied. And so he will begin his leadership training on Monday in Jonesville, VA! Kevin graduated from Middlesex High School in 2013 after which he took a full time job as an auto mechanic and began to attend Raritan Valley Community College (RVCC) part time. Though full time employment and college proved daunting and untenable initially, eventually Kevin returned to RVCC where he has attended classes full time for the last couple of years. Though he is very close to completing his associate in applied science degree in environmental control technology (heating and air conditioning), the manner in which the courses are offered will prevent Kevin from completing his degree until the end of the spring semester in 2020. So there will be a couple of classes in the fall and one final course next spring. For the past year, Kevin worked as a material handler for Johnstone Supply in South Plainfield. When he returns from his summer position with ASP, Kevin will again look for full time employment while he completes his final college courses and obtains his degree. In his free time, Kevin enjoys movies and music. His music genre is dance music. Apparently, Brooklyn is where he and his friends head to dance. Empty warehouses with DJs are where the action happens. Though Kevin claims not to be much of a dancer, that may be evidence of modesty more than accuracy. Kevin still enjoys tinkering on cars when he has time. His Toyota Tacoma truck is his current vehicle. Kevin says having a truck is very useful. He spends a fair bit of time hauling things for other people! Good luck, Kevin! We can’t wait to hear where you are headed after your training. You will remain in the hearts and prayers of your BBPC family!
