"I am sending the promise of my Father upon you. But stay in the city until you are clothed with power..." Luke 24:49

"You will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Judea and Samaria (and) to the ends of the earth." Acts 1:8

The Day of Pentecost is the fulfillment of Jesus' words to His disciples and to us. The gift of the Holy Spirit poured out upon all people is the manifestation of God's "present reality" with His people then and with us here and now. Reverend Barry Howard writes, "The Story of Pentecost...marks the inauguration of the church and launches the globalization of the Christian faith. We cannot recreate the phenomenon of Pentecost; our God is not the god of repeat performances but a God who is always seeking to do a new thing, and the Holy Spirit is pressing us to creativity and innovation and persistence."

How do we understand this "present reality" in our lives and world? How is the Holy Spirit at work in our lives, our homes, our church, our city? What is the Holy Spirit calling us to do and be right here and now in light of this awesome gift? Faithfully pursuing a personal investment in answering these questions could mean our city and we, ourselves, will never be the same again!
