The Blessing of the School Bags Reader: We have come to church today with our school bags to ask our loving
God to bless them. Our school bags are important to us. Every day we carry our
lunches and books from home to school and back again.
Reader: We also use our school bags to carry things to other activities. We use
them to carry our sports equipment, music and books, as well as clothes and things
for going to our friends’ houses.
Reader: When we ask God to bless our school bags, we are really asking God to
bless us and the many things we do. We know from the Bible that we are special to
God.
Priest: As a Church we want all our young people to know how important they are
and how much God loves them. I would invite everyone to stand. As members of
Christ Church (Parish Church), will you do all that you can to support and encourage
the young people of our parish?
Congregation: We will.
Priest: There is a saying that it takes a village to raise a child. Each of us has a part
- whether big or small - in raising the children of this parish. Will you help to teach
and guide them in the faith and be examples to them so that they can be salt of the
earth and light to the world?
Congregation: We will.
Priest: As they face new challenges, experiences and opportunities, do you give your
love, encouragement and blessing to these children and to all their teachers, parents
and guardians?
Congregation: We do.
(The congregation may be seated as the children and school bags are blessed.)

Over the next few weeks Carol Blacklock will be gathering names for those who would like to volunteer for shifts as greeters, elevator operators and parking lot attendants. If you helped out last year and would like a return engagement or if you wish to volunteer for the first time there is a sign-up sheet at the Charlotte Street Entrance. Carol will be away for several weeks but when she returns near the end of October she will confirm time slots and duties. Thanks for your willingness to help us show true hospitality.
YOUTH GROUP All Middle School/High School Youth and their Families are invited to the Snelgroves on Sunday Evening at 5:30 pm for a Barbecue as well as a Planning Meeting to set up our Youth Events for the Fall. It would be helpful to let Wandlyn know if you are able to come although last minute guests will be welcomed. Families are asked to bring a salad or dessert.
BIBLE STUDY Bishop Bills Bible Study will begin on Tuesday, October 10, at 10:30 in the Lounge.
UPDATE ON ELEVATOR We have just received the disappointing news that the hydraulic cylinder for our elevator has been held up at the manufacturing plant. It looks like at least another two weeks before the cylinder will be completed and then several days to have it delivered, installed and inspected. Our apologies to all who are in need of this access – we know there are many who depend on it.
FOOD PANTRY Thank you for the continued kind offerings of food. Your generosity has helped over 45 people last month.
SYMPATHY Our sympathy is extended to Lorne House and his family on the death of Patricia (Trish) Peters of Edmonton, Alberta. Trish is the sister of Lorne’s sister-in-law and has been on our Prayer List for several months. We pray that she may be granted eternal rest and that her family may find comfort and peace in the knowledge and love of God.

Epistle
Romans 13: 8-14
Let no debt remain outstanding, except the continuing
debt to love one another, for whoever loves others has fulfilled the law. The commandments, “You shall not
commit adultery,” “You shall not murder,” “You shall not
steal,” “You shall not covet,” and whatever other command there may be, are summed up in this one
command: “Love your neighbor as yourself.” Love does no harm to a neighbor. Therefore love is the fulfillment of
the law. And do this, understanding the present time: The hour
has already come for you to wake up from your slumber, because our salvation is nearer now than when we first believed. The night is nearly over; the day is
almost here. So let us put aside the deeds of darkness and put on the armor of light. Let us behave
decently, as in the daytime, not in carousing and drunkenness, not in sexual immorality and debauchery, not in dissension and jealousy. Rather, clothe yourselves
with the Lord Jesus Christ, and do not think about how to
gratify the desires of the flesh.
Gospel
Matthew 18:15-20
“If your brother or sister sins, go and point out their fault, just between the two of you. If they listen to you,
you have won them over. But if they will not listen, take one or two others along, so that ‘every matter may be
established by the testimony of two or three witnesses.’ If they still refuse to listen, tell it to the
church; and if they refuse to listen even to the church, treat them as you would a pagan or a tax collector. “Truly I tell you, whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth
will be loosed in heaven.
“Again, truly I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything they ask for, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven. For where two or three gather in
my name, there am I with them.”
