Meeting welfare needs of staff
O “The race is not for the swift nor the battle to the
strong, nor does food come to the wise or wealth to the
brilliant or favour to the learned but time and chance
happen to them all” (Eccl. 911)
O Those whose kernel has been shelled by the
benevolence spirit must not fail to acknowledge that
others are not so lucky
O Building equitable society means that the interests of
the under-served must be protected
6/14/2017 Valedictory Lecture by Prof. M. Ibadin 33
O From the Message of Abd Ru Shin:
Whoever loves money never has money enough, whoever loves wealth is never satisfied with his income. No earthly wealth would suffice to guarantee eternity.
Therefore awake and learn to know the Laws in Creation! No worldly cleverness will help you in this matter, nor the small amount of technical knowledge derived through observation!
Something so meagre will not suffice for the path your soul must take! You must lift your eyes far beyond this earth and recognise where your path leads after this earthly life, so that at this earth time you may become aware of why and for what purpose you are here on earth!
6/14/2017 Valedictory Lecture by Prof. M. Ibadin 34
O I quote further from the Message:
“And whatever your conditions are in this life, whether rich
or poor, healthy or ill, at peace or in conflict, in joy or
sorrow, so you will learn to recognise the reason and
purpose of it all!
This will make you glad and happy, grateful for the
experiences which have come your way. You will learn to
value every single second as precious and, above all, learn
to use them for yourself for ascent to joyful existence and
purest happiness”.

109
A case is reported in one of the hospitals in the East
where a group of workers interrupted the power
supply to the Intensive Care Unit during an industrial
action…
How depraved man has become, worse still for a
being given the high task of bringing succour to the
infirm!
6/14/2017 Valedictory Lecture by Prof. M. Ibadin 110
In the words of Abd Ru Shin:
O “You may journey through Creation consciously!
However, you must not harm others in order to satisfy
your personal desires. Live accordingly, and you will
then be happy and wander upwards into the Luminous
Gardens of your God, there to help in joyful activity with
the further and eternal development of this Creation!”
Further He says:
O “You may enjoy everything here in Creation, you may
taste of everything, but it must not bring harm to your
fellow-man! Again, this only occurs if you become a
slave to your desires!”
6/14/2017 Valedictory Lecture by Prof. M. Ibadin 111
How do you harm your neighbour you may ask?
“It is not difficult to grasp this aright, for when your
perception is calm you are quite well aware of when,
where and how you harm others.
All that remains for you to do in this matter is to become
clear as to everything which falls into the category of
desiring! However, you have already been told this clearly
in the God’s Commandments!”
6/14/2017 Valedictory Lecture by Prof. M. Ibadin 112
O In the Hospital you are to find many men of God,
the laity and the religious even among the leaders
of Unions involved in picketing during strikes.
O What does the Message of the LORD teach you
then?
6/14/2017 Valedictory Lecture by Prof. M. Ibadin 113
Again quoting from the scripture:
O You have treated every Divine Message granted you as
something separate, something that remains outside
yourselves, which you accustom yourselves to
approach with timid reserve!
O ‘Religion and daily life have always remained also for
you two separate things! You always stood beside it,
never in it!
O The effects of the Laws of Creation explained in the
parables remained absolutely incomprehensible to you
because you never looked for them in those parables.
6/14/2017 Valedictory Lecture by Prof. M. Ibadin 114
O ‘God’s Messages are precious hints which you
need! Without knowing and obeying them you are
lost!
O Therefore you must not place them as something
sacred in glass shrine, to gaze upon them in awe
and trembling only on Sundays, or to retreat there
in fear and distress in order to receive strength!
O You wretched ones, you shall not only venerate
the Message, but make use of It!
6/14/2017 Valedictory Lecture by Prof. M. Ibadin 115
O You shall grasp It with hearty goodwill, not only when
you are in Sunday attire, but only with the fist hardened
by daily toil, which never shames or debases, but only
honours everyone!
O The precious gem shines with greater purity and
brilliance in a rugged hand discoloured by sweat and
dirt, than in the well-cared-for fingers of a lazy idler who
spends his time on earth only in contemplation!
O You are to serve the Lord in your being and deeds.
6/14/2017 Valedictory Lecture by Prof. M. Ibadin 116
Unfulfilled dreams
O Weekend surgeries
O Weekend ANCs
O Establishment of Amenity Ward

O Physical infrastructures
6/14/2017 Valedictory Lecture by Prof. M. Ibadin 118
Recommendations
O Tackling the menace of Skipping
O Aggressive pursuit of the Appeal against the Extant Court Judgement
O Changes in the Schemes of Service
O Elimination of the Principal position from the Schemes of Services
O Evolving entirely new Schemes of Services
O CONHESS 11 as coterminous for persons serving as Principal and Assistant Chief
O Diplomatic manoeuvres
O Creation of Tertiary Hospital Commission
6/14/2017 Valedictory Lecture by Prof. M. Ibadin 120
Reasons for advocating for the creation of Tertiary Hospital Commission
O Not being decisive when it comes to taking decisions on budding controversies and issues
O Maintaining undignified silence in the face of raging controversies
O Allowing other agencies to dictate the pace of activities in the hospitals
O Deferring to Associations and Unions on issues capable of jeopardizing efficiency and effectiveness in the hospitals 6/14/2017 Valedictory Lecture by Prof. M. Ibadin
121
Reasons for advocating for the creation of Tertiary Hospital Commission
O Lack of documented guidelines on functions and
structure of hospitals
O Lack of consistency on issues and controversies
bothering on good governance
O Allowing leaders of Unions to rubbish CEOs by issuance
of different and conflicting circulars on major
contentious issues
O Permitting the failings of the Legal Department to rub
on hospitals and their leadership
6/14/2017 Valedictory Lecture by Prof. M. Ibadin 122
Reasons why the IPPIS should be strengthened
O Increasing the enrolee base to include all public
servants whether pensionable or non pensionable
O It should be more interactive with the operators of
MDAs
O The structure should ensure uniformity in wages
paid across various parastatals of equivalent status
to individuals in same position and rank
6/14/2017 Valedictory Lecture by Prof. M. Ibadin 124
Further Recommendations
O Boards of Management should be tenured
