TheAmericanDentalEducationAssociation’sCentralizedApplicationforAdvancedPlacementforInternationalDentists,orADEACAAPIDforshort,istheonlineapplicationforenrollmentinoneof28advancedstandingdentaleducationprogramsacrosstheUnitedStates.Ratherthancompletingindividualapplicationstoeachprogram,ADEACAAPIDsimplifiestheprocessbyallowingapplicantstosubmitonestandardizedapplicationtoanyofthese28programs.

Inadditiontothe28advancedstandingprogramsutilizingtheADEACAAPIDapplication,thereareanadditional7advancedstandingprogramstowhichyoumustapplydirectly,astheydonotaccepttheADEACAAPIDapplication.

Itisimportanttodetermineifitistherightapplicationforyou.ApplicantstoADEACAAPIDareforeigntraineddentalgraduateswhoarelookingtopracticedentistryintheUnitedStatesorCanada.ForeignstudentswhohavenotyetbegunorcompletedtheirdentaleducationinacountryoutsidetheUnitedStatesorCanadaarenoteligibletoapplythroughADEACAAPID.TheseapplicantswillneedtoapplytoatraditionalD.D.SorD.M.D.program.Foreigntraineddentistslookingtocontinuetheireducationbypursuingaresidencyinaspecialtyarea,butnotpracticedentistryintheUnitedStates,shouldalsonotusetheADEACAAPIDapplication.

The ADEACAAPIDapplicationwillopenit’s2017applicationcycleonTuesday,March1,2016.Applicantscanbegintocreateaccounts,completetheapplication,andsubmitdocumentsonthatday.TheapplicationwillremainopenthroughFebruary24,2017.Eachadvancedstandingprogramsetstheirownapplicationdeadlineonanydatewithintheapplicationcycle. TherearethreecategoriesofinformationthatareneededtoapplytoadvancedstandingprogramsthroughADEACAAPID– thosematerialsrequiredbyADEACAAPIDforallapplicants;thosematerialsrequiredbyalladvancedstandingprograms,butnotrequiredbyADEACAAPIDdirectly;andthosematerialsonlyrequestedfromapplicantstocertainadvancedstandingprograms.

ADEACAAPIDrequiresallapplicantstohavethefollowingmaterials:acompletedADEACAAPIDapplication;aforeigntranscriptevaluationcompletedbyeitherEducationalCredentialEvaluators(orECE)orWorldEducationServices(orWES);aDENTPIN,whichisobtaineddirectlyfromtheAmericanDentalAssociationorADA;andtheADEACAAPIDapplicationfees.

InadditiontothematerialsrequiredbyADEACAAPID,alladvancedstandingprogramsrequirethefollowingitemsfromallapplicants:at least2lettersofevaluation,withupto3accepted;andofficialTOEFLscorespreferablyfromtheinternetbasedtestorIBTforshort.

InadditiontothematerialsrequiredbyADEACAAPIDandalladvancedstandingprograms,someprogramsmayrequireadditionalmaterials.Materialscommonly

requestedinclude:scoresfromtheNationalBoardDentalExamparts1and2;DentalAdmissionTestorDATscores;AdvancedDentalAdmissionTestorADATscores;proofofU.S.citizenshiporpermanentresidentstatus;visainformationforforeigncitizens;aCurriculumVitaeorresume;andaphotograph.Itisimportantforapplicantstocheckthespecificrequirementsforeachadvancedstandingprogramtowhichtheyareapplying.

Thefirststepinapplyingthrough ADEACAAPIDistocreateanaccount.TheADEACAAPIDapplicationhomepageisusedtocreatenewaccountsandlogintoanexistingaccount.ApplicantswhohavenevercreatedanaccountwithADEACAAPIDbeforewillneedtoclickonthe“CreateanAccount”button.Applicantswhocreatedanaccountduringapreviousapplicationcyclemayusetheirsameaccountinformationtologintothecurrentapplication.Applicantsareabletologbackintotheiraccountafterithasbeencreatedatanypointduringtheapplicationcycle.

New applicantswhohavenevercreatedanaccountwithADEACAAPIDwillbeaskedtoprovidebasicinformationincludingtheirname,contactinformation,andaccountinformationsuchasusernameandpassword.

Applicantswhocreatedanaccountduringthepreviousapplicationcyclecanloginusingtheirexistingaccountinformation.Theseapplicantswillbepresentedwithachecklistofitemstocompleteinordertobringtheirapplicationinformationforwardintothenewapplicationcycle.

Applicantsreapplying throughADEACAAPIDwillfirstneedtodecideiftheywishtostartabrandnewapplication,orbringforwardinformationenteredontheirpreviousapplication.Startingafreshapplicationmeansnoinformationwillbebroughtforward,andoncethisoptionisselected, itcannotbeundone.Allpreviouslysavedinformationwillbeerasedandcannotberetrievedatalaterdate.

Re-applicantsoptingtobringforwardapplicationinformationwillbeaskedtoselectwhichinformationfromtheirpreviousapplicationtheywishtoincludeintheirnewapplicationforthecurrentyear.Datawhichre-applicantscanbringforwardincludes:InformationfromthePersonalinformationportionoftheapplicationsuchasbiographic,contact,citizenship,visa,race/ethnicity,andotherinformationpreviouslyprovided.

Inaddition,datafromthesupportinginformationportionoftheapplicationincludingexperiences,achievements,licenses,andotherrelevantinformationprovidedcanalsobebroughtforward.

WhilemostinformationontheADEACAAPIDapplicationisabletobebroughtforwardfromapreviousapplication,thereissomeinformationwhichcannotbecarriedintoanewapplication.ThisinformationincludesagreementtotheADEACAAPIDreleasestatements;thepersonalstatementoressaywritten;anylettersofevaluationpreviouslyreceived;anypaperWESorECEforeigntranscriptevaluationsreceived;allinformationprovidedintheprogrammaterialsportionoftheapplicationincludingdocumentsprovidedandquestionsanswered,previousdesignationinformation,andpreviouspaymentsreceived.Allre-applicantswillberequiredtoprovidenew/updatedinformationineachofthesesections,andmustpaytheapplicationfeesagain.

Asaguidelineforthecontinuingeducationcoursesection,AdvancedStandingprogramsprefertoseenomorethan10relevantcontinuingeducationcourseswhichhavebeencompletedwithinthelast5yearslistedontheapplication.

WhileapplicantsareabletolisttheirselfreportedNationalBoardDentalExamresultsontheADEACAAPIDapplication,officialscorereportsmustbesentdirectlytotheprogramstowhichanapplicantisapplying,ifrequiredbythatprogram.

ApplicantscanalsoselfreporttheirTOEFLscoresinthisportionoftheapplication.ADEACAAPIDdoesacceptofficialTOEFLscoresdirectlyfromETSonly.TohaveyourofficialTOEFLscoressentdirectlytoADEACAAPID,pleaserequestscorestobesenttothescorecodeforinstitutionB451:AmericanDentalEducationAssociation’sADEACAAPIDscorereportingcode.

WhileADEACAAPIDdoescollectofficialTOEFLscores,someadvancedstandingprogramsdorequireofficialTOEFLscorestobesentdirectlytotheprogram,aswell.ApplicantsareencouragedtocheckthespecificTOEFLscorereportingrequirementsforeachprogramtowhichtheywishtoapply.

ForanyapplicanttakingtheAdvancedDentalAdmissionTest,theirresultswillautomaticallybeprovidedtoADEACAAPIDbytheADA.ADEACAAPIDwillprovidetheofficialresultsforeachapplicantdirectlytoalloftheirdesignatedprogramsatthreepointsduringtheapplicationcycle:inOctober,DecemberandFebruary.The

resultswillbesentoutsideofADEACAAPIDandwillnotbevisiblewithintheapplication.

Aforeigntranscriptevaluationforeachforeigninstitutionattendedisrequired.Nooriginalforeigntranscriptswillbeaccepted,andtheyshouldnotbesenttoADEACAAPID.

ADEACAAPIDacceptsforeigntranscriptsfromEducationalCredentialEvaluators,orECE,andWorldEducationServices,orWES,only.Foreigntranscriptevaluationscompletedbyanyotherevaluationservicearenotaccepted. Inadditiontothisrequirement,allforeigntranscriptevaluationsmustbereceivedelectronicallydirectlyfromeitherECEorWES.ApplicantsareabletorequestanelectroniccopyoftheirECEorWESevaluationfromdirectlywithintheapplication.Applicantswhopreviouslyapplied,buthadsentinapapercopyoftheirECEorWESevaluationwillneedtorequestanew,electroniccopybesentusingthisprocess.

Aseachadvancedstandingprogramspecifieswhichforeigntranscriptevaluationserviceispreferredorrequiredfortheirprogram,applicantsshouldchecktherequirementsonforeigntranscriptevaluationsforeachprogramtowhichtheyareapplying.

The nextportionoftheapplicationis“SupportingInformation”,whichisbrokendowninto6sections. Inthisportionoftheapplication,informationiscollectedaboutanapplicant’slettersofevaluation;dentalandnon-dentalhealthcare,employment,research,orteachingexperiences;extracurricularandvolunteerexperiences;honorsandawardsreceived;andanyprofessionallicensesheld.

Inaddition,applicantsareprovidedtheopportunitytolistanyadditionalrelevantinformationnotalreadyprovided,andtowriteapersonalstatementexplaininghisorherdesiretopursueanadvancedplacementprogramintheUnited States.

WhileADEACAAPIDdoesnotrequireapplicantstoprovideanylettersofevaluationinordertosubmitanapplication,eachadvancedstandingprogramdoesrequireapplicantstoprovideatleast2lettersofevaluation,withmanyacceptingupto3.

Applicantsareaskedtoprovidethenameandemailaddressforeachletterofevaluationauthor.LetterwriterswillthenreceiveinstructionsonhowtoelectronicallyprovidealetterofevaluationdirectlytoADEACAAPIDonbehalfoftheapplicant.AllletterscollectedbyADEACAAPIDmustbeprovidedelectronically–nopaperevaluationswillbeaccepted. Lettersmustalsobewrittenonletterheadfromtheinstitutiontheauthorisaffiliatedwith,andcontainthesignatureoftheauthor.WhilethesearetherequirementsspecifiedbyADEACAAPIDforlettersofevaluation,someadvancedstandingprogramsmaymakeexceptionsforextenuatingcircumstances.

Thefinalportionoftheapplicationistheprogrammaterialssection.Eachprogramanapplicanthasselectedwillappearinthissection.

EachadvancedstandingprogramhastheopportunitytocollectseveraldocumentsfromapplicantsviatheADEACAAPIDapplication.ProgramscanrequestthatapplicantsuploadanunofficialcopyoftheirTOEFLscorereport.ThisunofficialTOEFLscorereportwouldbeinadditiontotheofficialscoresbeingsenteitherdirectlytotheinstitutionortoADEACAAPID.

InadditiontotheunofficialTOEFLscorereport,someprogramsmayallowapplicantstouploadcopiesoflettersofevaluation.ThisoptionisofferedtoapplicantswhohaveobtainedacopyoftheirletterfromanevaluatorwhomaynotbeableoravailabletoprovidealetterdirectlytoADEACAAPID.Notallprogramswillacceptapplicantuploadedletters.AllattemptsshouldbemadetohavelettersofevaluationprovideddirectlytoADEACAAPIDbytheauthors.

ProgramsalsohavetheoptionofrequestingorrequiringaCVorresume,unofficialcopiesofnationalboarddentalexamresults,anotarizedcopyofanapplicant’sdentaldegreeoranyotherprogramspecificdocuments.

Eachadvancedstandingprogramalsohastheopportunitytoaskadditionalprogram-specificquestionsthatwerenotpreviouslyaskedasapartoftheapplication.Notallprogramsaskadditionalquestions.

Onceallsectionsoftheapplicationhavebeencompletedforaparticular advancedstandingprogram,applicantscansubmittheirapplicationforthatprogram.ApplicantsareabletosubmitforoneormoreprogramsatatimebyselectingtheSubmitApplicationtabandclickingonthePayandSubmitthisProgrambuttonunderneatheachprogramtheyarereadytosubmitanapplicationfor.IfthegreenbarisnotfullandthePayandSubmitthisProgrambuttonisnotavailable,theapplicationforthatprogramisnotyetcompleteandthuscannotyetbesubmitted.

ThefeesfortheADEACAAPIDapplicationare$245forthefirstadvanced standingprogramappliedto,and$99foreachadditionalprogram.ADEACAAPIDacceptscreditordebitcardpaymentsonly.Allpaymentsmustbemadeonlinethroughoursecurepaymentprocessingsystem– nochecks,money,ormoneyorderswillbeacceptedandshouldnotbemailedtoADEACAAPID.

MostadvancedstandingprogramschargeasupplementalapplicationfeeinadditiontotheADEACAAPIDapplicationfees.Theseprogram-specificsupplementalapplicationfeesshouldbepaiddirectlytotheprogramrequestingthepaymentpertheirinstructions.

Applicants areabletocheckthereceiptstatusoftheirforeigntranscriptevaluationsandlettersofevaluation,aswellasthestatusoftheirapplicationforeachdesignatedprogramviathe“CheckStatus”tabatthetopoftheapplication.

Onceanapplicationiscompleteforadesignatedprogram,nofurtherupdatesontheadmissionsstatusoftheapplicationwillbeprovidedviaADEACAAPID.Alladmissionsdecisionswillbeprovideddirectlytoanapplicantbytheprogram.Again,ADEACAAPIDmakesnodeterminationsontheeligibilityofanapplicantforaprogram,nordoesADEACAAPIDhaveanyinfluenceovertheadmissionsstatusofanapplicantataparticulardentalschool.NoinformationonadmissionsdecisionsorenrollmentstatuswillbeprovidedbyADEACAAPID.Thisinformationwillbeprovidedbytheindividualdentalschoolstowhichanapplicanthasapplied,andquestionsregardingoffersofadmissionshouldbedirectedtoeachindividualprogram.
